Teavana's choice to use spearmint, rather than peppermint, is a key to making this team smell less medicinal than some Moroccan mint teas. The smokiness of the gunpowder tea complements the spearmint, which tastes milder taste than peppermint. The aftertaste is a bit astringent, which is solved by drinking more tea.

My nose needs improvement, I realize, but I smelled cinnamon as the dominant spice. Can cloves, which my fellow reviewers have noticed playing such a dominant role in this tea, mimic cinnamon to such a great degree? I don't know. The aroma is mild: you've got to put your nose pretty close to smell anything, and you don't get a whole lot even when you do. But, fear not, it does have some aroma. And that is "mild black tea," right out of central casting.
