This is only the second tea by Bigelow that I've tried (and both, I've tried in the last two days). I've been, overall, impressed by Bigelow. I admit that after being quite disappointed by other American brands, I gravitated towards those from the UK. I assumed that they'd be better able to formulate a good cup of tea, being immersed in the long-standing tea culture extant in Europe. By comparison, there isn't much of a tea culture in the States. But, the perfect pairing of warm spices and orange with black tea here is really quite impressive. It's not simply a delicious combination, it demonstrates a brilliant tailoring of spices to the environment. After all, the States get much colder (in some parts) during autumn and winter than the UK (and even as compared to many places in Europe). Adding warming spices to a tea is not simply a matter of taste, but a matter of necessity. The way that these spices act upon the body allows a person to be warmed not only by the temperature of the tea, but the action of the spice. This autumn set in quite quickly with a chill and I have been rummaging around, trying to find a tea to warm me up. While a loose Lapsang Souchong helped me the other day, I'm simply not fond of the smokiness, which often sticks around in my throat long after. This cup of Constant Comment tea was the first time I was made to feel warm this autumn. I'm so glad that I came upon this (it literally fell out of the cabinet when I was looking for something else and belongs to someone else in my household who was kind enough to share with me). I look forward to trying other teas from the Bigelow brand. I'd also encourage others to give this particular variety a try. It is a great combination of spices, it is well suited for a bit of honey if you are so inclined, and is just the thing for a cold day.

"This tea. This tea is good... good for me." ...a tune my grandfather used to sing when he'd take his first sip of this tea... Every time I would serve it to him as a kid, he would sing it. It brought joy to my young ears. Oh my, this brings many a tear to my eye. I would ALWAYS comment in response, "Grandpa, shut up! Drink your tea!" and he would laugh in humiliation... I miss him.

I like decaf Constant Comment, but hadn't gotten around to trying the original version. It turns out, it's not much different. I can taste a little of the maltiness in the finish, but that's about it. I already know that decaf black teas have little tea flavor, but I was hoping there would be more in this one. A bit of Assam in the base blend would improve it immensely.
I do like the flavoring, though. Clove is dominant with faint orange and cinnamon in the background. I wish there was an herbal blend that tasted just like this. Bigelow's Orange & Spice is similar, but the balance is more toward cinnamon than Constant Comment's heavy clove.

One of my top few tea blends from any company, anywhere... every whiff and sip of this tea is a trip straight to Christmastime, all year 'round. I like strong, unambiguous teas, and the nearly perfect blend of orange, cinnamon and cloves ("sweet spice" that you can reverse engineer easily by emptying the used, dried bag) leaves no room for doubt.
As a kid, before ever trying Constant Comment, I would drop a few pieces of cloves and bark cinnamon in a strainer with my mom's black tea and thought it was something else. This is something better. I couldn't balance the blend like Bigelow. No wonder they built an entire corporate empire off this stuff.

In my opinion this is the best among Bigelow's flavored teas, although my favorite from Bigelow is one of their herbals--sweet dreams.
It's funny, I tend not to like orange spice teas, but I like this one. It's balanced: none of the aromas overpower the others. There's a nice amount of strength and bitterness, but it's not too much.
If you're given the option of Bigelow's various tea bags, this is always a good choice. And it might inspire you to make a similar blend on your own using loose black tea, orange rind, and spices!
