Yunnan Gold Supreme. Organic from Happy Earth Tea
Style: Yunnan Gold – Region: Yunnan, China87 / 100 Aroma: 10/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5
Oct. 22nd, 2014
This tea brewed to a cloudy copper tone, and smelled richly of honey, chocolate, and earthy spice—cinnamon, or allspice, or the peppery side of cardamom. It smelled as if it would be oily, in the way of a full-bodied Scotch, but also syrupy and sweet.
The mouthfeel is smooth, but on the watery side compared to th...

Jinggu Golden Strand Pure Bud Yunnan Black Tea - Spring 2014 from Yunnan Sourcing
Style: Yunnan Gold – Region: Jinggu, Yunnan, China100 / 100 Aroma: 10/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 5/5

The aroma is...well, it is awesome, there are notes of dried cherries and apricots, with more subtle notes of sweet potatoes, roasted peanuts, and lastly a tiny hint of cream. It is very much so iconic for a Yunnan black tea, at least for me it is, it has all the notes I expect when sniffing a fuzzy gold tea, but with ...

Yunnan Gold from Bare Tea
Style: Yunnan Gold – Region: Yunnan, China73 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5

A distinctly raisin-like aroma and flavor. I like it! No bitterness I can notice. Interestingly, this steeped very quickly for a whole leaf tea. Even as I poured the water (brewed at 200 °F), the water became a deep brown with gold tints. After just one minute I went ahead and removed the sachet, as I felt like it wou...

The aroma of the dry tea is rich and quite sweet, with notes of cocoa, roasted peanuts, yams, honey, and a delicate finish of dried cherry. It is nothing short of mouthwatering, but I do have a great love for this kind of tea.
The first steeping is light, a creamy blend of sweet cocoa, roasted peanuts and a rich aft...

I’m not sure what to make of this! I was expecting something a little different based on the reviews and description.
Method: about 1tbsp (sounds like a lot, but these are small, pointy leaves), 8 oz, 205 degrees, 2 minutes, ForLife brew in mug strainer
Dry Leaf Aroma: This smells like a malted campfire.
Bre...

Method: 1.5 tsp, 8 oz, 203 degrees, 3 minutes, French Press
Dry Leaf and Brewing Aroma: light malts and honey
Flavor: Why, WP, WHY?!?!? Every time I think I've found my favorite tea, I end up with another ...

Ehrmagerd! OM NOM NOM.
This tea is amazeballs. I made it like this: 1 tsp, 8 oz, 208 degrees, 3.5 minutes. I used my brew in mug strainer. I sampled at 1 and 2 minutes, but it wasn’t strong enough. 3.5 minutes is perfect.
I am going to try a second steep, but I’m already sold. This is gorgeous. It smells and ...

Yunnan Breakfast Black from Simple Loose Leaf

I wasn't terribly impressed with this one, but I'd drink it if it was around. Now that I am fancy enough to tell the difference between the two, I find that this was both bitter and astringent. I'll perhaps try this with a shorter steep time and see if that makes a difference.

he aroma of the dry leaves is a mix of pine resin, pepper, stewed cherries, and an aged oak cask. It smells like fruit, scotch, and smoke-less Lapsang Souchong. What an unusual tea!
This tea is brisk and strong! Breakfast blend is a perfect description because I am certainly awake now. The taste is a blend of molass...

Oh my. This is a good one! The dry tea leaves smell like malty cookies with a hint of jasmine. Malty Jasmine cookies! I want to bake some to go with this tea.
The brewed tea smells less floral and more sweetly malty. And the flavor... it's very sweet on its own, without any additives. I love that. It tastes m...

Imperial Gold Bud Dian Hong from Whispering Pines
Style: Yunnan Gold – Region: Yunnan, China73 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5

The dry aroma on this tea is really interesting. It smells malty, and there's a general roasty aroma. It smells like something I have smelled before, but I cannot place the aroma.
The tea steeps to a light yellow amber color and I taste the same malty/roasty type scents from the aroma.
It's a little pricey,...

I really wish I tasted some of that pepper from the description.
This was brewed using boiling water for 6 min. The tea smells great before and after steeping, but it has a sharp taste that I don't appreciate.
I try to drink tea without sugar or milk, but it may be needed here. Toward the end of the cup, I star...

I don't like the aroma much - to me, it smells like raisins and cereal. It tastes good, but more fruity than I would like. It has a raisin-like flavor, too. I added cream and sugar.

This tastes a lot like other examples of high-quality Yunnan Gold teas that I've tried.
Pyramid sachets are very aromatic!
Upon brewing, produces a cup with numerous subtle aromas. I initially get caraway and rye in the aroma, but then vanilla and caramel. Underneath, there are cocoa tones. Flavor is extremel...

Nonpareil Yunnan Dian Hong Chinese Red Black Tea from TeaVivre
Style: Yunnan Red – Region: Yunnan, China83 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 4/5

A fascinating tea, resembling caraway and rye crackers, but complex and smooth. This tea got my attention in an unusual way: most of the high-end Yunnan black teas are gold or pure gold variants, mostly or all tip. This tea had an all-dark leaf.
The dry leaf is very aromatic, with a peculiar aroma resembling caraw...

The aroma is a blend of roasted nuts, cocoa, and beets, it is quite savory rather than sweet. Brewing the tea brings out a fruity quality and sweetness along with the roasted nuts and cocoa quality.

My tea tastes are rather narrow. I rarely stray from Assam or Yunnan loose leaf. Trying this reminds me why I enjoy these types the best. Lovely "peppery" smell, beautiful liquor, and most important, excellent taste. Upton, in my opinion, never fails to deliver an excellent tea at a great price.

Yunnan Jig from Adagio Teas

The aroma of this tea is fairly delicate with notes of muscatel, oak, and summer berries. When brewed it takes a turn for the malty and stronger oak notes.
The taste is bright and clean with notes of muscatel, sweetness, and dark chocolate. It is a great afternoon tea.

Yunnan Imperial Black from Single Origin Teas
Style: Black Tea – Region: Yunnan, China90 / 100 Aroma: 9/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 4/5

The aroma of this tea is wonderfully sublime, woodsy, muscatel, and oaky like a wine cask. The brewed tea brings more earthiness and wood notes, the liquid is very sweet and makes my nose tingle.
The taste is wonderful! One of the smoothest black teas I have ever had. Sweet, earthy, and oaky. A wonderful tea.

Yunnan Gold (Golden Yunnan) from Adagio Teas
Style: Yunnan Gold – Region: Yunnan, China80 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5

I thought this tea was great. I really liked the roasty smell, and thought it was a great tea for a cool fall morning.
I didn't notice a peppery smell or taste at all, so I feel like the description is deceiving.
