Taiwan Jin Xuan Milk Oolong Tea from TeaVivre

To me, this tasted a lot like the FooJoy Tung Ting oolong, but with notes of milk, cream, and at times, almost a custard, that came and went. The floral notes were very similar, like gardenia. I did enjoy those milky notes, but they didn't stick around long. They were present for the first steeping, but were largely in...

My first "milky" oolong. Hmmm...
The aroma of the dry, dark, greenish-brown balls is overpoweringly sweet. I was shocked at how much it smells like caramel popcorn, with a creamy milk-like background. Quite bizarre, and smells more like something I'd eat rather than drink.

There's a lot of controversy with Milk ...

Oh, yum. So first of all, the scent of the dry tea is ridiculously sweet and creamy. It smells like some sort of candy, and makes me seriously question the notion that there are no flavourings involved in this tea. The leaves are very tightly rolled little balls. I used a generous teaspoon for 8oz of water, and tha...

Wow, this is quite a different tea from any others I've tried. Its flavor is at once vegetal, silky, savory, and a little salty. It's almost broth-like in its flavor and texture, but far more smooth. It tastes like a tea that would be good in the winter when you're craving something substantial and comforting, but not ...

Method: 1.5 tsp, 8 oz, 208 degrees, 3 minutes and 8 minutes, brew in mug strainer

Dry Leaf And Brewing Aroma: milky and buttery with a little hint of floral

Flavor: this tea is very light and “green”. I sipped it a bit and found the flavors to be pleasant, but quiet. I put the strainer back in and steeped to ...

It's not milky, but it is excellent.

Method: 1.5 tsp at 200 degrees, 3 min, French Press

Dry Leaf Aroma: Sweet fruits, melon

Brewing Aroma: Same

Flavor: I don't taste any of the usual milk flavors, and this doesn't seem especially creamy to me. That being said, I think it's an excellent tea. It's swee...

Dry Leaf Aroma: powdered milk, popcorn topping, butter. Back in the day, my parents used to buy this powdered faux butter popcorn topping. You would pop your corn and sprinkle it on. That's what these tea leaves smell like!

Brewing Aroma: Milky and sweet, with a hint ...

The dry leaf aroma smells very much like powdered milk to me. Once brewing begins, I can smell the creamy aroma, and definite hints of jasmine.

The flavor is sweet, but a little too faint at first. I try longer steepings, and I can detect a very light buttery flavor. I was hoping for more milky flavor in the brewed ...

I purchased the Spring 2014 batch in a sample pack. The tea has a lovely flavor and has a creamy feel, but I didn’t get the milky flavor I was hoping for. To be fair, I did eat recently, so I am going to brew this again and see what I come up with. I liked this tea, but I am hoping a second try will give me the chanc...

A relatively mild, easy-to-brew oolong with a milky fragrance and lemony tang.

I recently tried a Jin Xuan oolong from the company Eco-Cha, and comparing it with this one was like night and day, as much as you can get with a green oolong. While that one was buttery, this tea was milky.

The dry leaf is very tight...

A buttery-smooth oolong that was pleasing, but I thought a bit boring. I'm not familiar with Jin Xuan (other than reading about it), so it may be that I'm just not a fan of this varietal.

Dry leaf is not very aromatic, but the brewed cup is more so.

Buttery and vegetably, with a smooth, silky texture. The aroma...

The aroma is heady and sweet with strong notes of orchid that fade into vegetal. Brewed the aroma of the leaves are still very sweet and floral with an underlying woody note.

The first steep is mild and sweet with subtle tastes. The second steep is much more intense with notes of vegetal and a sweet aftertaste. The...

The aroma of this oolong is sweet and creamy with notes of fresh vegetation and lilacs. There is also a hint of nuttiness. Once it is brewed the aroma is still really sweet and creamy but it also has notes of green beans and a tiny hint of chestnut.

The taste is really sweet and really creamy, delightfully so! It i...

This is an unflavored milk oolong (teavivre has a different product that is the same thing but with milk flavor added), meaning that it's a pure oolong tea whose flavor is usually described as smooth or milky. I've been drinking it a lot lately, and trying it a number of different ways. What I've found in general is th...
