White Tea from Ten Ren Tea

Style: White Tea – Region: Fujian, China

63 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 3/5

The description of Ten Ren's white tea in tea bags is pretty accurate. The taste is mild and a bit earthy, and actually not so different from their wulong teas. The overall effect of the tea is smooth and straightforward, but without many characteristics of Bai Mudan, Shoumei, or other white teas, really. My initial im...

Ten Wu Fine Oolong from Ten Ren Tea

Style: Oolong Tea – Region: Taiwan / Formosa

83 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 5/5

This is a green wulong tea from Taiwan, in tea bag form from Ten Ren. This is a complex tea, but its vegetal and floral characteristics stand out the most to me. There is also some slight sweetness, and the overall character is quite rich and smooth. I have some loose leaf King of Tieguanyin, another green wulong, that...

Dragon Well 2nd Grade from Ten Ren Tea

Style: Dragon Well (Long Jing) – Region: Zhejiang, China

I got this tea for a general idea of the relative quality of Ten Ren's Longjings, without much investment.

You can get a lot of loose Longjing here for not much money at all. The downside is that the quality isn't so great. Many leaves are broken, other leaves are bent, etc. For most people, I would recommend much h...

Oolong Tea from Ten Ren Tea

Style: Oolong Tea – Region: ?????

67 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 5/5
May. 29th, 2011

I was in a different city today, so I hit up the local Asian grocery stores to find some Ten Ren and Foojoy teas to try out.

This tea is mysteriously / generically labeled simply as "Oolong Tea." The tea brews to a nice golden amber color, a bit lighter than the Ten Ren Tieguanyin, basically a dark wulong. The aroma...

Dragon Well Tea from Ten Ren Tea

Style: Dragon Well (Long Jing) – Region: China

57 / 100 Aroma: 5/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 4/5

Ten Ren's Longjing brews to a golden-green color, and has a strong smoky vegetal aroma. This tea has a crisp finish and some real bite, different from a typical Longjing. Actually, this aspect of it is more similar to the bite and "rawness" of a Chinese red tea.

The flavor of this tea is a bit vegetal similar to its...

Ti Kuan Yin from Ten Ren Tea

Style: Tie Guan Yin – Region: Taiwan / Formosa

73 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 4/5
May. 16th, 2011

First impression of this tea is that the aroma is pleasantly full and rich, very nice for a dark wulong. The liquid is dark golden brown, but it is not thick, opaque, or hazy, as some wulong teas from a tea bag can be. The taste of this tea is characteristic of a dark Tieguanyin, with a bit of a bitter aftertaste which...
