Seldom have I sampled a tea with such a gap between aroma (or lack thereof) and taste. It's a vast chasm, really. The Grand Canyon might be a good analog with another several million years of erosion, widening and deepening.
This was a motel pickup somewhere out on the Great Plains. I don't recall where. I had a...

This tea seems decent. The aroma is musky and somewhat smoky. It tastes a bit bitter, and similar to other cheap black teas. I wouldn't choose it over other black teas, but I wouldn't mind drinking more of it. I added cream and sugar.

I've been drinking this tea since seemingly forever. Always preferred it to Lipton. Now that I'm a tea snob maybe I'll try the loose leaf version.

Surprisingly not bad! This is the first time I've tried a decaffeinated tea and I wasn't expecting much, but it was actually pretty nice. The level of bitterness was very low, and I swear I taste just a hint of cinnamon in this. It creates an all-around pleasant cup, even without cream.
Also interesting was the stee...

Dry Leaf Aroma: Lemon cake! Yum!
Brewing Aroma: Lemon with a hint of cream
Flavor: This given to me buy a friend. I didn't expect to like it, but I do. It tastes like lemon cake. I tried it plain, and it was good. Then I added a little rock sugar...

A very citrusy Earl Grey, surprisingly good for an inexpensive tea bag, and I think the best I've tried yet from Red Rose.
The tea bag smells of lemon and orange, and has visible bits of citrus peel.
Brewing for 3 minutes with boiling water, produces a rich, malty cup. The bergamot flavoring blends into the othe...

I've now reviewed five of the specialty teas from Red Rose, but it wasn't until today that I finally reviewed their original flagship blend.
The tea bags, as well as the brewed cup (I brewed for 3 minutes) are basically aroma-less, but upon drinking it's actually more pleasant.
Full-bodied and strong tasting but ...

Thank you Red Rose, for the sample of this tea, included in the bag from the Philadelphia Coffee and Tea Festival. I only got to trying it now.
I initially saw "lemon" and thought this would be a typical lemon-flavored black tea, but no...this tea is much more cake than lemon.
The tea bag has an aroma that bears...

A pleasant and drinkable Irish Breakfast, true to the style: very strong. Nothing amazing, but decent quality for a tea bag at the low end of the price range. A sample from the Philadelphia Coffee and Tea Festival.
A very strong tea, and true to the Irish Breakfast style, but I thought it was just a tad harsh. Co...

The tea bag has no smell, contrasting with the tea bag of the caffeinated Red Rose English Breakfast, which has a pleasant malty smell. I steeped for 5 minutes, which is what I prefer for the caffeinated version--even that tea is on the weak side for my tastes.
Upon brewing, the cup doesn't have much of a smell, bu...

I received this tea bag as a sample at the Philadelphia Coffee and Tea Festival. It's encouraging to see a company like Red Rose experimenting with single-estate teas, and I also liked that this is both organic and fair trade certified.
Tea bag is not very aromatic, and upon brewing, the cup isn't very aromatic eit...

Not a big fan of Red Rose - and only tried the decaf kind once - years back. The regular black tea by Red Rose makes a passable Southern-Style sweet tea - and it's very inexpensive.
I would proabably use this for decaf sweet-tea when you want a black, generic tasting grocery store tea. It's drinkable but not a fa...

Inexpensive, black caffeinated and readily available. Not a fan - but some offices still stock this for free (though Lipton is very popular as well). CHEAP! Slightly bitter - and very, very black.

A nice hearty tea with a great smell. Easy to brew for a non-Irish person and still have good tasting tea. I like this tea for my afternoon break - if my regular tea isn't available.

I had the opportunity to sample this a couple times. The second time I had a fresher sample and it tasted noticeably better. The tea bag smelled malty, which was a good sign!
Brews a rich, dark color. Flavor is weaker than I expect from this style: not very bitter, and aroma is less malty than I like. Compared t...

I'm not a great fan of grocery store tea and PG Tips is my go to for bags, but I gotta say that this is just fine, especially at a friend's house. It just says "warm, comfy, at home"

This is the bag tea I use most frequently as an alternative to Assam, Kemun, Yunnan, or Darjeeling loose leaf teas. It holds up well to milk and a bit of sugar, doesn't have the slightly fishy taste of some major commercial brands.
