Colombian Wiry Green Organic Tea (Formerly Colombian Green Tea) from Simpson & Vail
Style: Green Tea – Region: Colombia68 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5

This tea seems pretty good quality and has a nice, but mild green tea aroma. The price is reasonable and the tea is good enough that I think the value is fair. It tastes like a classic green tea however it is slightly too bitter and astringent for my taste. I have a lower threshold for these qualities than some and it ...

Disclaimer: I am trying this tea that has been in my cupboard for many years, possibly up to 10, so this rating may not be a completely accurate representation of what this tea would be like fresh. Black tea often mellows with age and loses aroma, and I would say this tea is certainly mellow but yet I still like it. It...

I was not expecting much, since I had tried another Colombian tea from Upton that was not good at all, but this was a pleasant surprise. The flavor is complex and plays around on the palate, with notes of fresh bread and malty tannins. The price is right too - I would get this again. I had this breakfast tea style, ...

I've tried what I'm pretty sure is this same exact grade of tea from the same garden, but sold by Upton Tea Imports, a while back, and I loved it. I loved it this time too!
The brewed cup has a strong and complex aroma. It has a moderate toastiness to it, with notes of cocoa and strong notes of wintergreen, which I ...

This tea is really good and tastes deep and roasty. It’s thick bodied and not too astringent. I like it a lot and it’s classic tasting but it’s also not super interesting. It’s good if you need just a regular black tea in the morning!

Here is a successful marriage of black tea with cacao. When drunk with milk and sugar, a pleasant chocolate flavor emerges that blends well with the base tea, which (surpise!) one can taste. This is a nice treat from Upton.

Maybe Assam specialists won't find it that special, but for me it was quite a revelation. It has a spicy kick indeed, similar to Assams, but most of all I tasted a wonderful subtle sweetness, that I had not experienced before, at least not this way. It seemed like a hint of strawberry, although that might only be my ve...

Half-litre pot at home. Pours nearly clear dark amber with no sediment. Clear aroma of black tea, with some spicy hints to it. Pure flavour of Assam tea with mild peppery hints and barely discernible notes of cocoa beans. Clean palate, with qqmildly rough hints and tannin touches. A clean and well-balanced drink, made ...

This tea has a very mild earthy aroma. The liquor is a pale amber. A tea that is 'light' on flavor, with no after taste. I was hesitant to try this just because it is from a non traditional growing area. I am underwhelmed with this tea. It might serve as a 'base' for blending or adding a flavor. Adding sugar or milk wo...

Yet another Colombian tea from the Bitaco estate. Thank you Simpson & Vail for the samples! It's been exciting how many of these I've been able to try lately, and I love every one. They are only subtly different, but I am still able to appreciate the differences. This one, as the name suggests, was the sweetest one I'v...

Another exquisite tea from the Bitaco estate in Columbia! This was a smooth black tea that tasted top-quality, but was a bit weak on the resteep. Tastes better when brewed strongly. I served this tea to two different people as well and they both loved it.
I've been trying different grades and batches or variants of ...

This was a light tea with a strong savory flavor, that tasted distinctly like lobster!
Another sample from Simpson & Vail, thank you! I've been loving all the black teas I've tried from the Bitaco estate in Colombia, and this is another one. They are all excellent! I'm glad to see this garden and its teas taking o...

Another lost review, apologies for the delay in posting. Thank you to Simpson & Vail for providing me with this one!
The dry leaf is wonderfully fragrant and also has a beautiful visual appearance, with long, narrow, fully intact leaves. The smell is suggestive of a number of high-grade Chinese teas, and made me e...

This tea smells floral and fruity. The taste is light and not very astringent but it has a subtle and pleasant bitterness to it. Even though it's lighter bodied, I felt full after drinking it. It's a very satisfying tea and worth the money. Also, this tea is unusually good when you re-steep it, it still maintains much ...

This tea is incredible! Thank you to Simpson & Vail for sending it to me as a sample. I was recently very wowed by a Colombian black tea sold by Harney & Sons, and I was eager to try this one. It is very similar, but I think even better. I suspect this is probably a higher-grade tea from the same tea garden.

The first time I tried this tea I was unimpressed, but it grew on me, and I also started liking it more when I brewed it with boiling water. I still don't like it anywhere near as much as I like the black tea from the same estate, which I think is otherworldly and among the best black teas I've ever tried. At best th...

An unexpectedly top-notch tea, unlike anything else I've tried. I'm always incredibly curious to try teas from a new country or region, and I was super excited to try this one, since there are very few teas grown in the Americas. Normally, I approach these sorts of teas more as an interesting novelty, not expecting t...
