Kyoto (京都府) is a prefecture in Japan located in the center of Honshu, the largest island of Japan, on the north coast, but reaching well into the interior of the island as well. Kyoto borders Nara to the south, and also shares a small border with Mie to the southeast.The name Kyoto is best-known for the Kyoto Protocol, an international agreement to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to prevent global climate change, which was designed by a UN Conference in the city of Kyoto, the capital of Kyoto prefecture.
The prefecture of Kyoto has a diverse geography and climate, reaching from the sea into mountains. Parts of it are used to grow tea, especially around the city of Uji.
Uji
Uji is the second-largest city in Kyoto prefecture (after Kyoto city). The Uji region has a long history of tea cultivation, reaching back easily hundreds of years. Uji is also home to a tea shop, the Tsuen Tea Shop, with an ancient history, reaching back hundreds of years, that may be the oldest tea shop in the world.Kyobancha, a peculiar type of green tea, a large-leaf roasted green tea that is very low in caffeine, originated in the Uji region.
