Lao Cong Mi Lan Xiang (Honey Orchid) Phoenix Dan Cong Oolong from TeaVivre

Style: Dancong Oolong – Region: Guangdong, China

79 / 100 Aroma: 9/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5

The name is accurate: it does smell like honey and flowers. Like Teavivre's Ya Shi Xiang and Da Wu Ye, it has a creamy mouthfeel and sweet, fruity taste. However, I'm not sure it's worth the price considering the cheaper Da Wu Ye from Teavivre or the cheaper and likely better Mi Lan Xiang from both Yunnan Sourcing and ...

Bright floral aroma, creamy mouthfeel. Later infusions have a note of peach with a mildly spicy finish. Pretty much a stereotypical Dancong. I'd recommend this to someone who has never tried one before. If you have, there's nothing new here, but I don't think there's really anything bad about it either unless you're us...

I like floral teas, but this was a little too floral for me. Great creamy mouthfeel, though.

Huang Guanyin (Yellow Goddess) Wuyi Rock Oolong from TeaVivre

Style: Oolong Tea – Region: Wuyi, Fujian, China

The dark chocolaty, floral aroma of the dry leaves is honestly the best thing about this tea. I spent a lot of time trying to get it to taste like it smells. I can get close with a lower temperature and the right brewing time, but it's never exact. Most of the time, the taste is slightly fruity and a little less roasty...

Wuyi Shui Xian from Coffee and Tea Exchange

Style: Oolong Tea – Region: Wuyi, Fujian, China

77 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 5/5

This is a very basic Wuyi oolong, with the deep, roasty flavor you'd expect. There's a caramel sweetness and the aroma has a bit of tobacco. I compared this to Teavivre's Da Hong Pao, and while the Teavivre DHP had a slight fruity note that was lacking here, I thought this compared pretty well otherwise. For $2, it's n...

Ti Kuan Yin from Coffee and Tea Exchange

Style: Tie Guan Yin – Region: Anxi, Fujian, China

72 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 5/5

Decent dark roast oolong, but nothing special. It had a nutty, caramel flavor that reminded me of Brazilian coffee. Considering it was only $2/ounce, I'd buy some again if I was in Chicago and low on oolongs, but it's not something I'd go out of my way for.

I wrote a review of this before, but I accidentally deleted it while trying to edit it. Now that I've had a few better examples of Tieguanyin, I don't think this is as good as I initially thought. It's fairly mediocre, actually, with little to distinguish it from other oolongs on the lighter but not quite green end. Br...

Superfine Taiwan Qing Xiang Dong Ding Oolong Tea from TeaVivre

Style: Oolong Tea – Region: Taiwan / Formosa

I wasn't as impressed with this as I was with the roasted version. It's pretty good, but nothing really stood out to me, and it lacks the complexity of the roasted version. Without the roast it's just another floral oolong to me. However, roasted Taiwanese oolongs are among my favorite teas, so maybe someone who loves ...

The aroma of the dry leaves is very floral, more so than any other Tieguanyin I've had, and the wet leaves are even more aromatic. I'm brewing this in my gaiwan, and after a quick rinse the first infusion is floral and vegetal, with a coolness in the finish that I usually find in Taiwanese oolongs. The second infusion ...

This was one of the free samples I picked with my Teavivre order. I put most of the sample in my gaiwan, leaving just enough for a later western style brew. The dry leaves smell quite roasted, but also floral and somewhat woody. The first infusion has an aroma much like the dry leaves, but a bit more floral. The taste ...

A dark oolong with a nutty and buttery taste. It lacks the complexity of a higher quality oolong, but it has the advantage of being cheap and available at grocery stores. I actually prefer it cold brewed, and the ease of putting two bags in a water bottle overnight to take with me the next day is the only reason I'd ge...

Style: Oolong Tea – Region: Nantou, Taiwan

86 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 4/5
May. 7th, 2018

This is a blend of Gui Fei and Jade oolongs, since the website doesn't make that clear. It has a very floral aroma, as expected. The first cup is clean with a honey-like sweetness, but it's more aromatic than flavorful. The second cup is more interesting: mild stone fruit notes appear, and the mouthfeel is thicker comp...
