Picture of Yorkshire Gold Leaf Tea (Loose)

Yorkshire Gold Leaf Tea (Loose) from Yorkshire Tea

Style: English Breakfast – Region: Blend

63 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5
Dec. 2nd, 2012

After being relatively impressed with Yorkshire Tea's tea bags, I was let down when I tried their loose-leaf. It tasted really similar, which was good, but it was not markedly better!

The aroma is rich and malty, and there is a faint hint of wintergreen in the aroma as well. Smoother than average for a tea of this...

Organic English Breakfast from Divinitea

Style: English Breakfast – Region: Blend

70 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5

A robust, good-quality English Breakfast tea with a quality slightly suggestive of Yunnan black teas.

The large, mostly whole leaves infuse quite slowly, but this tea becomes quite strong if you let it steep long enough. Moderate bitterness, full-bodied, not too astringent.

I would be curious to learn what goes ...

Organic English Breakfast from Paisley Label Tea (Paisley Tea Co)

Style: English Breakfast – Region: Blend

Jul. 25th, 2012

I was very interested to try the teas from this newly-launched effort of Two Leaves tea. This was an above-average quality British-style tea bag with finely-broken black tea, from the same company that I'm used to selling high-quality pyramid sachets. Good but not amazing. No brewing instructions on the container; I...

English Breakfast (Kenilworth Ceylon Tea) from Novus Tea

Style: English Breakfast – Region: Kandy, Sri Lanka

67 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5
Feb. 28th, 2012

I find it a bit strange that Novus offers both a caffeinated and decaffeinated Ceylon tea from Kenilworth estate. Usually, companies do not wish to draw attention to the difference between a caffeinated tea and its decaffeinated counterpart, as the decaf tea usually pales in comparison. But, in this case, Novus boldl...

Organic English Breakfast from Harney and Sons

Style: English Breakfast – Region: China

This tea was interesting to me as it is pure Keemun, and not a blend of different teas, or predominately Ceylon possibly with some Assam, the way a lot of English breakfast blends nowadays are. I don't know much about the history of tea so I can't say much about the authenticity of this tea.

I will say, compared to...

English Breakfast from Revolution Tea

Style: English Breakfast – Region: Blend

60 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 2/5
Sep. 13th, 2011

Moderate strength, relatively full-bodied, but considerably less bitter than typical for an English breakfast.

I think I prefer the green and white teas from Revolution tea, but this one was not bad.

Pricey though, for the quality. Revolution's other teas, in my opinion, deliver something more unique whereas thi...

English Breakfast from Ronnefeldt

A friend brought this back from Europe for me. The caption on this tea cracks me up...'prickelndem' is translated as 'scintillating', and the combination of "typical" (which does not have the same connotation as the German "typischer") leads to a bit of a contradiction: "A typical Ceylon tea with a scintillating flavo...

English Breakfast from Red Rose Tea

Style: English Breakfast – Region: Blend

53 / 100 Aroma: 4/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 3/5
Mar. 17th, 2011

I had the opportunity to sample this a couple times. The second time I had a fresher sample and it tasted noticeably better. The tea bag smelled malty, which was a good sign!

Brews a rich, dark color. Flavor is weaker than I expect from this style: not very bitter, and aroma is less malty than I like. Compared t...

English Breakfast from Wedgwood

Style: English Breakfast – Region: Blend

This is a CTC tea and it is insanely strong. I brewed for a little less than a minute, using less than a teaspoon of leaf, and it was still a bit strong for me. This tea is fairly aromatic; I'm not sure exactly the proportions that go in but I can definitely taste some Ceylon and what seems like possibly an Assam or ...

English Breakfast from Boston Tea Company

Style: English Breakfast – Region: Blend

67 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Sep. 7th, 2010

This is a classic English Breakfast tea. Medium strength, full-bodied, good black tea aroma with some complexity. There's some earthiness and a pleasant hint of floral black tea tones. Moderately bitter and fairly astringent.

I tried brewing this with different brewing lengths and found no advantage to a longer s...

This is astonishingly smooth (perhaps weak too) for a Breakfast tea. A little bit, but not much strength. There's a mild tannic aftertaste and I almost wish there was more. Odd, as this tea brews a very rich, dark color.

Aroma is mostly malty and not very complex.

Pleasant, but somewhat boring.

Aroma rather complex...there's a hint of maltiness like an Assam, and a fairly strong presence of the light, clean quality of a high-grown Ceylon (as from Nuwara Eliya), and there are some spicy tones as well, including a hint of clove...and it oddly also has a suggestion of orange in there too.

Flavor is very sour....

English Breakfast Black Tea from Bigelow Tea

Style: English Breakfast – Region: ?????

57 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 3/5
May. 2nd, 2010

In my opinion, this is the best straight black tea from Bigelow and it really stands out among the rest of their offerings. It's a fairly powerful black tea, but it also has some complexity in the aroma...some of the tones suggest that there's a bit of Darjeeling mixed in with whatever else is this blend.

Fairly bi...

English Breakfast from Darvilles of Windsor

This is a very strong black tea. While I tend to prefer slightly more mellow black teas, this tea is among one of the better teas of such strength that I've tried. Unusually malty for an English breakfast, and the malt is rich and fulfilling. Almost more like an Irish breakfast. Strongly bitter and strongly astring...

English Breakfast from Hampstead Tea

Style: English Breakfast – Region: India

63 / 100 Aroma: 5/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 4/5

Aroma is rice-like, and very slightly malty, with a slight hint of smokiness, and somewhat fruity. Most of these qualities are very subtle. It's hard to say whether the aroma is balanced or muddled...it somehow straddles these two possibilities. I am not crazy about how the different aspects of the aroma blend toget...
