Dong Ding Oolong from Tradition

This is a really great tea, it has a complex aroma and flavor. This type of tea is normally expensive but this one is cheaper yet the taste is perfect. And of course, as you all know my biggest issue with teas is ones that are too astringent, and this tea was not astringent at all so it's perfect!

Taiwan High Mountain Green Tea from Tea King of China (Starway)

Style: Jade Oolong – Region: Taiwan / Formosa

65 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 4/5
Dec. 31st, 2017

The can calls this "green tea", but it's clearly a jade oolong. It's much better quality than Starway's other oolong teas. It's mediocre compared to other Taiwanese high mountain oolongs, but they're usually much more expensive than this.

The dry tea smells fresh, mellow and pleasant. There's no hint of a roast. The...

I'm still struggling with tightly-rolled green oolongs, but when I do get this one right, it tastes amazing. It's extremely smooth and slightly sweetish. It has just a hint of something that reminds me of green tea. It's silky soft and a bit sweet when I get it right, but sour if I do it wrong (for example, if I use to...

Formosa Jade Oolong from Het Gouden Randje

I bought this tea before and remember it as lovely and flowery, but when I bought more of it later, it just... wasn't so great.
It looks nice with the tightly rolled balls of leaves. It's got a kind of metallic taste that I find a bit unpleasant. That could be the jasmine-like taste that the product description mentio...

Dong Ding Oolong traditional medium roast from Life in Teacup

Style: Jade Oolong – Region: Nantou, Taiwan

93 / 100 Aroma: 9/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 5/5
Nov. 16th, 2014

Well perhaps on the website this may be considered a mid-grade tea, but I was really impressed by it. I now know what a quality oolong is supposed to taste and smell like. It's rich both in aroma and flavor, and lasts very well through multiple infusions. Infact, I experimented on the third and fourth infusions: It was...

Mmm, very tasty. This tea beats other oolongs I've had that were three times the price. It's naturally really sweet, with a mellow nutty undertone. Creamy mouth-feel. The aroma is beautiful, thick and sweet. I could drink this tea all day.

Brewed a large teaspoon in 8oz water at 200F for 3 min.

Beautiful jade green oolong with low oxidation and a bright, clear aroma and flavor. The natural sweetness is amazing! Aroma mirrors the sweetness but has distinct floral notes.

I have become very impressed by this brand, and the quality of their teas for very reasonable prices. One of my local Asian markets often ...

87 / 100 Aroma: 9/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 5/5
Jun. 28th, 2013

The aroma is lightly floral and lightly green with the usual earthiness I associate with oolongs.

The taste is slightly bitter, like a green, with hints of orange blossom and a hint of ginseng. The taste is both very pleasant and subtle.

After multiple brews the taste becomes more green and herbal and less flora...

I was happy with this tea, and especially its reasonable price! To me, it had a subtle taste, like most oolongs, and I was happy with how smooth and soothing it was to drink. I'm hoping to buy some the next time I go to my local Asian supermarket :)

Very complex. Light, but bold.

Aroma is simultaneously floral and herbal. Strong, almost orchid-like fragrances emerge and vanish from an herbaceous background.

Even when unsweetened, it tastes like a bit of honey has been added.

This is one of the best examples of this tea that I've seen in this price range...

A solidly good, classic, but perhaps slightly boring Taiwanese Jade Oolong. Sold for a surprisingly reasonable price!

Aroma is mostly of butter with a little honey and some faint floral tones. Buttery-smooth flavor: sweet, with no bitterness. To my tastes, a bit too buttery, and not very tea-like.

Leaves are e...

Dong Ding Oolong Competition Grade III 2009 from Life in Teacup

80 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 4/5
Jan. 2nd, 2011

This is the first medium-roast Dong Ding I've tried; prior to trying this one I've only tried the lighter roasted styles of Dong Ding, or medium-roasted oolongs of other styles. I like this one very much.

I did not have much leaf and only had one opportunity to brew this once, using multiple infusions, but the resu...

Dec. 20th, 2010

This is an exceptionally strong tea: without a doubt, the strongest green oolong I have yet tried. Very little leaf is needed. While I've had Dong Ding with a more nuanced aroma, it was weaker overall, and I actually prefer strength, especially in this style of tea which can be a little too gentle for my tastes. The...

Style: Jade Oolong – Region: Nantou, Taiwan

63 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5
Sep. 28th, 2010

This jade oolong tastes very little like any Taiwanese jade oolongs I've had, and instead tastes more like a greener, medium-roast Tie Guan Yin. The level of roast is noticeably stronger than what I normally expect from a Jade oolong.

The aroma is of honey and wood. In the second infusion, some herbaceous tones co...

Apr. 13th, 2010

I bought this in a 60g canister for $4 in Philadelphia's chinatown, and I wasn't expecting much because it seemed cheap for this style. This is barely recognizable as a Tung Ting / Dong Ding oolong: the leaves are broken, although in fairly large pieces, and although it's on the lighter side for an oolong, it seems to...

Extremely mellow...the aroma is more like that of a floral honey than other teas. Light in color. Sweet, with almost no bitterness, sourness, or astringency. Compared to other Tung Tings I've tried, this tea is less like other oolongs and more like a Pouchong. In my opinion, it's too thin, and it has a bit of a fis...

57 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 2/5
Oct. 29th, 2009

Beautifully fragrant leaves and beautifully fragrant brewed tea. Sweet, light, orchid-like floral aroma. Weak flavor, with a very clean taste...sweet with a hint of tanginess and no bitterness. Upon drinking, what seemed like a pleasantly strong aroma becomes too weak.

Adagio recommends brewing 5 minutes with 180...

70 / 100 Aroma: 5/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 5/5
Sep. 19th, 2009

This was the first time I ever tried this type of oolong. While this tea is pretty good for a teabag oolong, it falls far short of any loose Tung Ting / Dong Ding I've tried.

Smooth, very mellow, and sweet...but almost to the point of being bland. Tastes like you've added honey even without doing so. However, com...
