My experience with genmaicha is very limited, and it's not my favorite tea type, so take this for what it's worth in that context. If the dry smell alone were the basis for evaluating a tea, I would have launched this stuff into the compost heap, untasted, with prejudice. Maybe I'm just not well-adapted to genmaicha ...

Best tea ever!! At least for me, since I love grain based teas like barley and buckwheat. This tea is green tea mixed with toasted brown rice and it really does give the tea this amazing malty, nutty flavor that I love! The tea is very warming and cozy and not astringent at all. The price is great as well! definitely r...

I really wasn't impressed with this. I was hopeful because the reviews I found elsewhere were good. But, this tea lacks taste and body. There's nothing to it. I even contacted Maeda-en because I thought there might be an issue with the product. It's not what I've come to expect from their brand. Their teas are usually ...

I really like this genmaicha. Aside from tea in Asian restaurants, this is the only genmaicha that I've ever tasted. The kind that I have (I'm not sure if they've changed the recipe or not) has sorghum in addition to rice. It has a great, nutty, roasted flavor. There isn't much caffeine to it. I'm amazed that this tea ...

An enjoyable, but not super interesting tea that struck me as a little pricey. One of my favorite genmaichas yet. Thank you to Upton, for throwing this in as a free sample with my order!
Dry leaf looks a dusty bright yellow color, much more yellowish than most Matcha. Aroma is very mild, mostly of the toasted rice.

I should really stop posting first impressions. I often end up rewriting the whole review. This tea took some time to get used to. I disliked the toasted rice at first and wished it was just bancha and matcha, but then I realized that it's the combination of everything that makes this tea work: the bancha provides a ni...

It is sencha with toasted brown rice - I wonder who thought that up? This provides a little heft and cracker-like flavor to this green tea. I'm rating it in 2018, but I liked it a little more in some prior years.

A good example of this style of tea. Dry leaf’s aroma is a little weaker than the brewed tea, but it has good, toasty flavor and a round, smooth mouthfeel. Does tend to become a little astringent if brewed for too long — I set my timer for 2:45 so I can be sure I get my infuser out before three minutes.

Upon seeing this new tea for sale in the Victoria Murchie's store, there was no question I would get it and like it. Murchie's consistently delivers good to great tea, and blueberry is one of my favorite flavors; therefore, I bought a 50-bag box straight up.
The risk was rewarded. The green tea shines through an...

For a genmaicha (which I enjoy in spring/summer) I really love this one - probably my favorite roasted-toasted brown-rice note-filled tea. Even good over ice - and unsweetened for a true grain-filled experience. I actually love this one - but if you are not a Genmaicha lover - you may not want to try this one. More ...

Super cheap and - if you can get it (try H-Mart or other Asian grocers) it's a good bagged Genmaicha option. Refreshing in summer with a roasty-toasty aroma. Grassy notes - and also a sweetness (I do not get a "Honey Smacks" note).
Can even be OK over ice.

Roasty-Toasty but not worth the price - there are better (and also worse - see my other Gen Mai Cha reviews) versions available. If you are a Gen mai lover (Roasted rice/grain notes) this is a decent choice but no holy grail. Very nice in summer.

I'm not big on genmaichas, but the light baked rice flavor in this one is comforting. It's nice when I'm in the mood for something savory, but not bitter. No spiciness or sweetness, the flavor is uncomplicated in a way that's nice sometimes.

Nice roasted taste. Before looking up what that popcorn is made of, I thought that it might be some sort of bean because it tastes a bit like some hearty bean. Not bitter at all. Maybe a bit salty. The heartiness and bean flavor almost makes it taste like soup.

I buy this in 16 count boxes of well sealed individual pouches from my (more or less) local Asian supermarket. It's amazingly inexpensive, dependable, and it reminds me of Honey Smacks. I get that smacks are puffed wheat instead of rice but tell that to my brain.

Palais des thes is the best brand I have found for most types of tea. The genmaicha has a quite strong and pleasant taste, and can even endure a long steeping without getting bitter. The taste of the roasted rice gives this tea the added flavour, and you can even eat the rice after (or during!) drinking the tea.

I went through a few months' addiction to this tea. Green tea base, with pineapple and papaya flavors. It's very pretty dry and loose, the aroma is fruity and even tropical, and the flavor is great - not super fruity, but just enough. The green tea is just enough to bolster the other flavors, but doesn't mask them.

I was very intrigued by this tea. I dislike green tea, but this had toasted rice and bits of popcorn in it. It's very interesting-looking, loose. I was really interested in how it tasted.
It smells like popcorn or rice cakes and cooked greens - maybe spinach or kale. Not a bad aroma, but not one I associate with tea....

A good genmaicha for a low price, a great everyday tea. Dry leaf has a lot of popped rice kernels in the mix, and has a mild, pleasingly toasty aroma.
Brews up a full-bodied cup with a bold flavor, with a light bitterness, light savory (umami) presence, and slight sourness. The base tea comes through a bit in the ...

This is not a tea of kings. Genmaicha originates from Japanese peasants using additives to make their sencha last longer--but this particular additive evidently caught on, since it's still consumed today. Though weaker than a typical green tea, this has a hearty, satisfying flavor that seems particularly palatable for ...

smell is good with hint of lavender...wish it came out stronger though...2 minute steep time for first cup...flavor is VERY light, but seems like it would be good if stronger. The aroma is exactly what you expect from a Genmaicha, if you have never had the pleasure of sniffing one, the notes are a blend of roasted rice, a touch of honey sweetness, a bit of freshly mown grass and hay, and just a touch of fresh vegetation. It is a delightful blend of green tea and popped rice, the aroma is one...

This tea really grew on me, and by the end I adored it. The sample I got - which was enough for one cup - suggested brewing it very quickly, just 30-45 seconds, with water just below the boiling point. In retrospect I think that following those instructions would have worked out well, but I'm paranoid about using water...

The aroma on this tea is very much what it says on the bag, caramel and matcha. Super sweet and a little decadent.
Drinking it cold is delicious, very smooth and creamy. The matcha flavors are prominent and the caramel tastes more like caramelized sugar than candy.
When it is warm the flavors become creamier an...

Dry leaf has a potent, cereal-like aroma.
First infusion brews a hazy, pale golden cup...it almost looks like there's a tiny bit of iridescent dust on top of the tea's surface.
Flavor is mild but delightful...sweet, crisp, and with a hint of a fruitiness that I can only describe as reminiscent of cola. It sort o...
