Yunnan Loose Tea from Murchie's Tea & Coffee Ltd
Style: Yunnan Red – Region: Yunnan, China88 / 100 Aroma: 9/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 5/5
Oct. 19th, 2017
This was one of the most classic examples of a Dian Hong or black tea from Yunnan, that I have tried in a long time.
The dry leaf is rich in golden tips, looking a little more greenish and silvery than in the company's picture. It smells mild but very pleasant and complex, with smoky and fruity notes typical of a Y...

Imperial Pure Bud Yunnan Black Tea of Simao from Yunnan Sourcing

I have had this tea in 2016 and now this year. It has a strong aroma with hints of sugar. It also has a sweet flavor and great mouthfeel.

Nice amber colored liquor. Subtle aroma and flavor. The 'pearls' open up during steeping. Would not be my first choice if I wanted a 'strong' Yunnan. Very enjoyable.

Yunnan Flowery Orange Pekoe from Simon Lévelt
Style: Yunnan Red – Region: Yunnan, China70 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Aug. 4th, 2017
This tea smells similar to Simon Lévelt's Ruhuna Orange Pekoe. The leaves are more colourful, with many golden tones, but the aroma has a similar strong dried fruit quality. However, I don't think I'd describe it as plums, exactly. Raisins come to mind, or rather, a kind of spicy raisin cake.
The liqueur tastes ver...

Ancient Golden Yunnan from Rishi Tea
Style: Yunnan Gold – Region: Yunnan, China80 / 100 Aroma: 10/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5
Apr. 18th, 2017
While somewhat broken, the dry tea is in relatively large pieces and the golden tips that the style is known for are apparent. The aroma is malty with notes of raisins.
While brewing, the tea smells wonderful. The maltiness is pronounced, but tannic, leafy and perhaps mineral elements are also present.
The first ...

Strong flavor and aroma. Delightful Yunnan. I bought these for dining out. When I go out for breakfast, I take some of these along. I enjoy this tea and find it much more flavorful than the national brand the restaurant offers.

Dry, this tea has a very subtle aroma. The liquor is amber colored. Overall, a bit milder than I expected from previous black snail.

Imperial Pure Bud Yunnan Black Tea of Simao from Yunnan Sourcing
Style: Yunnan Gold – Region: Simao, Yunnan, China93 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 5/5
Apr. 16th, 2016
Appearance: The dry leaf is intact, curled, and often intertwined with other leaves, making it hard to easily separate. The leaf is pure bud covered in a light golden-orange down that comes off on the fingers when handled without care. Some of the underlying dark-brown leaf is visible closer to the non-terminal end of ...

Yunnan Golden Tips from Harney and Sons
Style: Yunnan Gold – Region: Yunnan, China77 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5
Apr. 8th, 2016
This tea is really strange. I enjoy it most when I don't think of it as a black tea, and I still don't know exactly how I feel about it. I disagree with Harney's assertion that this is "vigorously assertive": to me it lacks the strength and punch of a black tea, and in many respects is more like an oolong or even a m...

Tippy Yunnan from Harney and Sons
Style: Yunnan Gold – Region: Yunnan, China87 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 5/5
Feb. 16th, 2016
I thought this an excellent tea and it is definitely among my favorite Dian Hong or Yunnan Red (black teas) that I've ever sampled. It's one of many samples I recently ordered from Harney & Sons.
I chose this for a very cold morning, because I find Yunnan teas to often have a powerful warming quality, and I found i...

Yunnan Noir from Adagio Teas
Style: Yunnan Gold – Region: Yunnan, China93 / 100 Aroma: 9/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 4/5
Dec. 20th, 2015
This tea is rich and bold with slightly sweet fruity smell and taste. I would say the most prominent taste comparison would be cinnamon or allspice. It reminds me a little of Italian super Tuscans.
I have tried many of the Adagio black teas and this and the black pearls are my two favorite.

Yunnan Mao Jian from Upton Tea Imports

Intense aroma, not as strong as a Pu Erh. Rich brown color to the liquor. Mild flavor.

China Breakfast from Rishi Tea
Style: Yunnan Red – Region: Yunnan, China80 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 4/5
Aug. 8th, 2015
With many Chinese teas I find the bitterness to be somewhat overwhelming, but while this tea has some definite bitterness, it is pretty smooth and not at all unpleasant. It's a strong tea with a mild grassy aroma. Very astringent. A bit of a sour aftertaste. On the second steeping when the bitterness was significantly ...

Yunnan Gold (Golden Yunnan) from Adagio Teas
Style: Yunnan Gold – Region: Yunnan, China77 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
May. 4th, 2015
I like this tea, at least when I give it a good week or so between tastings. I'm not sure why I get sick of it, but I do. I think it's the leaf-pile scent that remains after my nose gets used to the sweet and fruity aromas.
With that confession off my chest, let me stress that this is a quality tea with a lots of c...

Golden Monkey from Octavia Tea
Style: Yunnan Gold – Region: Yunnan, China63 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 2/5
Dec. 19th, 2014
A pleasant, drinkable tea, but on the boring side. I usually associate the name "Golden Monkey" with golden, all-tip black teas from Fujian province, not Yunnan. This tea is from Yunnan.
Dry leaf is very pleasantly aromatic, suggesting dried fruit, and a slight hint of malt.
Brews up a beautiful, light brown cu...

Dian Hong Congfu from Joseph Wesley Black Tea
Style: Yunnan Gold – Region: Yunnan, China57 / 100 Aroma: 5/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 2/5
Nov. 27th, 2014
Dry leaf has beautiful, intact wiry leaf with golden tips, and a mild aroma of rye malt and fruit.
The brewed cup is very dark, but not as aromatic as I'd like. The aroma is mostly fruity, and also suggests rye malt, but the aroma is weak, and the flavor is also somewhat weak. Although this tea is smooth, I think ...

Ancient Yunnan from Octavia Tea
Style: Yunnan Gold – Region: Yunnan, China80 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 4/5

Sampled in Velvet Sky Bakery in Jenkintown.
A smoother-than-average Yunnan black tea (Dian hong) with a classic character, slightly nondescript, but with a hearty, warming quality that makes it very pleasant to drink. Not quite as mind-blowingly awesome or weird as some of the ancient-tree Yunnan teas I've had, but...

Yunnan Breakfast from Rishi Tea
Style: Yunnan Red – Region: Yunnan, China57 / 100 Aroma: 5/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 3/5
Nov. 1st, 2014
Pleasant for a black tea, not bitter, and seems to be of good quality, but it tastes pretty ordinary to me. Black tea isn't my favorite, but I like trying them to see what I'll find. I added milk and this improved it a bit. I don't have anything negative to say about this tea, but it isn't really for me.

Yunnan Gold Supreme. Organic from Happy Earth Tea
Style: Yunnan Gold – Region: Yunnan, China87 / 100 Aroma: 10/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5
Oct. 22nd, 2014
This tea brewed to a cloudy copper tone, and smelled richly of honey, chocolate, and earthy spice—cinnamon, or allspice, or the peppery side of cardamom. It smelled as if it would be oily, in the way of a full-bodied Scotch, but also syrupy and sweet.
The mouthfeel is smooth, but on the watery side compared to th...

Jinggu Golden Strand Pure Bud Yunnan Black Tea - Spring 2014 from Yunnan Sourcing
Style: Yunnan Gold – Region: Jinggu, Yunnan, China100 / 100 Aroma: 10/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 5/5

The aroma is...well, it is awesome, there are notes of dried cherries and apricots, with more subtle notes of sweet potatoes, roasted peanuts, and lastly a tiny hint of cream. It is very much so iconic for a Yunnan black tea, at least for me it is, it has all the notes I expect when sniffing a fuzzy gold tea, but with ...

Yunnan Gold from Bare Tea

A distinctly raisin-like aroma and flavor. I like it! No bitterness I can notice. Interestingly, this steeped very quickly for a whole leaf tea. Even as I poured the water (brewed at 200 °F), the water became a deep brown with gold tints. After just one minute I went ahead and removed the sachet, as I felt like it wou...

The aroma of the dry tea is rich and quite sweet, with notes of cocoa, roasted peanuts, yams, honey, and a delicate finish of dried cherry. It is nothing short of mouthwatering, but I do have a great love for this kind of tea.
The first steeping is light, a creamy blend of sweet cocoa, roasted peanuts and a rich aft...

Golden Fleece from Verdant Tea

I’m not sure what to make of this! I was expecting something a little different based on the reviews and description.
Method: about 1tbsp (sounds like a lot, but these are small, pointy leaves), 8 oz, 205 degrees, 2 minutes, ForLife brew in mug strainer
Dry Leaf Aroma: This smells like a malted campfire.
