My first Nepalese tea was a pleasant experience, but only after a little trial and error. First, the aroma: a good bit milder than the flavor, but pleasant, earthy, and floral, as if in a freshly watered flower garden with just a few active blooms of marigold or carnation wafting their scents airborne.

The first...

This is a smooth, mild tea - but not lacking in flavor. It seems similar to a good quality Darjeeling or a Ceylon. A little overpriced imo, but good.

Top of the World Nepal from The Tea Smith

Style: Black Tea – Region: Nepal

55 / 100 Aroma: 5/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5

The aroma, for me, reminds me of menthol. Think 'Vics vapo rub'. The medicine like aroma is unusual. The aroma is present in the liquor. The liquor (5 min steep) is a very dark brown, bordering on black. The taste is good, with a slight sweet after taste (peach, maybe). While not disappointing, it would not be my first...

Upton Mist Valley Estate Second Flush from Upton Tea Imports

This is for the 2020 vintage. For some reason, for me at least, when it comes to teas, higher prices do not necessarily mean a more satisfying tea. Usually it means more subtle nuances of flavor and aroma. This moderately expensive tea is an example of what I mean. It is fairly mild and there are some light, nippy ...

Half-litre pot at home. Pours clear dark amber with no sediment. Clear aroma of pure black tea, with very mild hints of orange. Delicate flavour of fine tea leaves, with barely discernible touches of bark. Bitter, slightly astringent palate with a gentle, slightly acidic aftertaste. Clean and of very fine quality, tast...

Has an almost musty earthiness to it. Would not drink it cold. Very dark aroma and flavor with a lingering undesirable aftertaste.

Without a doubt my favorite tea I've ever tried from Nepal. A singular tea with an intoxicating floral fragrance and an ethereal quality overall. Another sample from Simpson & Vail, thank you, and apologies for taking so long to post this one!

This tea was fascinating: visually, the leaf looks more like a Chinese te...

The dry leaves look green, orange and black, and the used leaves a really soft greenish orange. The liquid is much lighter than most other black teas I have.
This tea is extremely smooth and soft and tastes kind of earthy. It doesn't easily get bitter.

Nepal 2nd Flush 2014 Golden Tips Black Tea from What-Cha

Jan. 28th, 2015

The aroma rich, a touch on the sweet side, but more rich than sweet. The notes are primarily roasted peanuts, malt, and a touch of sweet potatoes and stewed fruit. At the end there is the most delicate note of rose and pepper, I run into pepper quite often, but the notes of rose were a pleasant surprise.

Ok, first s...

Another What-Cha tea! This black tea has twisty leaves that range from brown to gold. Just as the hot water was hitting them I got this aroma of spicy baked… something. Not spicy enough to be gingerbread, but like, maybe a sugar cookie with cinnamon on top? Once brewed, I smelled it again and was like “Oh, so when ...

This is a nice medium bodied black tea. It brewed up surprisingly dark after only 2min. The aroma is actually a bit floral, but the flavour is more fruity. A bit of drying sensation in the mouth by the end of the cup. Reminds me a bit of a 2nd flush darjeeling?

A mellow, mild, yet fascinatingly novel tea.

This tea tastes a lot more like an oolong than a black tea. The leaf is huge, unusual for teas grown in the Himalayan region. I found it very complex and very enjoyable, but I could see it disappointing if I were expecting a black tea. Most lighter black teas from Nepa...

Although the leaf of this tea was not particularly aromatic, this black tea immediately struck me as very high in quality when I sipped the cup. I'm noticing a trend that teas from Simpson and Vail often surprise me with the brewed cup, after the dry leaf fails to impress. With this tea, I was able to brew two very f...

Creamy, but with a bold quality to it. Somewhat Darjeeling-like in aroma, but darker in appearance and flavor than most second-flush or autumnal Darjeeling.

Aroma fruity and floral, with some of the characteristic muscatel grape qualities.

I really like the aroma of this tea. My only complaint is that this cup ...

A vaguely Darjeeling-like tea with dark, vegetal and herbaceous aspects. I'm noticing a trend amongst all of the teas I sample from Rare Tea Republic. This is one tea though that I found did not particularly fit its description: I would not describe it as "brisk", nor did I notice many "floral notes".

The aroma is...

Dry leaf consists of large pieces of broken leaf, mostly light brown, with some greenish and silvery.

Strongly reminiscent of a Darjeeling, and with a typical, middle-of-the-road Darjeeling character. Aroma is bright, fruity, and light, with a lot of the muscatel grape quality. There's also a hint of spruce needle...

One of the strangest teas I have had in some time!

The dry leaf, with lots of of yellowish-gray tips, turns quite dark when brewed. Aroma of the dry leaf is Darjeeling-like, and reminiscent of other Nepal teas, with hints of grape yet an almost smoky, dusty, edgy quality to it. The dry leaf's aroma suggests a more...

This is one of those elusive teas that I am often searching for, with a Darjeeling-like character but packing more of a punch.

Aroma Darjeeling-like, with a strong fruity, muscatel quality. A tad more cooling and less warming than a Darjeeling. Slightly fresher tones. Dark color but relatively light body. Very s...
