Rooibos from Rooi Life
Style: Rooibos – Region: South Africa84 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5
Feb. 24th, 2017
This was the best rooibos I've ever tried in a teabag and among the best rooibos I've ever tried.
I was excited when this new company, Rooi life, approached me with a sample offer. The company sells only a single product: pure rooibos, in tea bags, in a fairly big package too.
Quite aromatic, earthy and with fru...
Rooibos from Ajiri Tea
Style: Rooibos – Region: South Africa83 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 4/5
Nov. 13th, 2013
Sampled at the Philly Coffee and Tea Festival.
Intensely aromatic: although most rooibos strikes me as more or less similar, this one actually stood out. The aroma is both powerful and complex, earthy, and with tones of vanilla. Medium-body, with a creamy texture.
Ajiri Tea seems to do a consistently excellent ...
Rooibos from Choice Organic Teas
Style: Rooibos – Region: South Africa67 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Aug. 4th, 2013
I thought this was an unusually high-quality rooibos for a simple, reasonably priced tea bag.
Rich earthy aroma, with some complexity; I detect the faint hint of vanilla and fruitiness that is the hallmark of good rooibos. This is on par with much of the loose-leaf rooibos that I've tried. Full-bodied, strong, and...
Green Rooibos (Rooibos, Green Tea) from Mountain Rose Herbs
Style: Green Rooibos – Region: South Africa92 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 5/5
Jun. 25th, 2012
Upon sampling the green rooibos from Mountain Rose Herbs, this became a new favorite for me, and my new preferred source of green rooibos.
Although the dry leaf is light green in color, I found that the flavor of this was more similar to red rooibos than other green rooibos samples. Brews a light orange color.
I...
Rooibos Tea from Frontier
Style: Rooibos – Region: South Africa67 / 100 Aroma: 4/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 5/5
Jun. 24th, 2012
A strong, Assam-like rooibos, if that's possible. Dry leaf is pleasingly aromatic.
Aroma is rather strong, earthy, and woody, and considerably more peppery and spicy than I am used to for rooibos, less fruity. Rather heavy and thick. Not exactly bitter, but seems to have more bite than a typical rooibos. This is...
Rooibos (Formerly Red Mellow Bush) from Numi Organic Tea
Style: Rooibos – Region: South Africa67 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 3/5
Jan. 29th, 2012
This rooibos had an unusual complexity for a tea bag. However, it also had considerable astringency.. Aroma slightly fruity, earthy, and with straw-like tones.
Rich. Not the smoothest rooibos though. I'd take this over most brands of rooibos sold in tea bags, although at home I prefer loose-leaf rooibos.
Rooibos Tea from Equo
Style: Rooibos – Region: South Africa53 / 100 Aroma: 5/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 3/5
Dec. 23rd, 2011
A run-of-the-mill teabag rooibos. This is perhaps slightly above-average quality for a tea bag. Flavor is somewhat flat, aroma is not terribly complex. In my opinion, if you want superior-quality rooibos in a tea bag that is also fair-trade certified, go with Equal Exchange's pyramid bags.
I was disappointed that...
Rooibos from Wegmans
Style: Rooibos – Region: South Africa57 / 100 Aroma: 5/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 4/5
Apr. 13th, 2011
Aroma somewhat earthy, very woody, only very slightly fruity. Flavor smooth, not even a trace of bitterness, and only minimally sour, but moderately astringent, leaving a bit of a dry aftertaste. I really notice wood more than anything else...tastes a lot like tree bark.
I've had better rooibos and I've had worse....
Organic Honeybush Herbal Tea from Stash Tea
Style: Honeybush – Region: South Africa57 / 100 Aroma: 5/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Mar. 31st, 2011
Aroma strongly peppery, much more so than a typical honeybush. Only slightly fruity. Very flavorful: a rich flavor with some bite, more like black tea, but with a smoother aftertaste. Mild, earthy finish.
Relatively simple and staightforward, but pleasing. Above-average for the quality I'd expect from a teabag.
Pure Rooibos Red Tea (African Rooibos) from Twinings
Style: Rooibos – Region: South Africa60 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 4/5
Jul. 8th, 2010
The quality of this rooibos surprised me...it's surprisingly aromatic, and more fruity than most. Almost no astringency, and slightly sweet. Less of the unpleasant tones in the aroma that some rooibos has. So far, the best rooibos I've tried in teabags, other than Equal Exchange's wild rooibos in pyramid sachets.

South African Honeybush, Grade A from Upton Tea Imports
Style: Honeybush – Region: South Africa70 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
May. 6th, 2010
Very fruity, but not in an overwhelmingly sweet way. The aroma has a hint of floral and citrusy qualities, and less of the peppery quality that Upton's BA28 has. Very full-bodied. Interestingly, the color of the liquor is slightly lighter than other honeybushes. Pleasantly sweet aftertaste.
By far the best honey...
Rooibos Tea Original from Freshpak
Style: Rooibos – Region: South Africa50 / 100 Aroma: 4/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5
May. 4th, 2010
One of my friends brought this back from South Africa; it's just a store brand, so it makes sense that it would fall a bit short of some of the specialty sources of Rooibos I've had here in the U.S. However, compared to bagged supermarket teas available in the U.S., it's pretty good.
The aroma is much earthier than...
South African Rooibos (Red Bush) Super Grade from Upton Tea Imports
Style: Rooibos – Region: South Africa67 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 4/5
Apr. 29th, 2010
At the risk of sounding absolutely ridiculous, I'm going to say that this rooibos smells and tastes more like rooibos than any other rooibos I've tried yet!
Woody, with a hint of fruitiness...but also a quality that is slightly reminiscent of paint or socks. Perhaps rooibos is an acquired taste that I'm still not 1...
Green Rooibos (Green Bush) from Rishi Tea
Style: Green Rooibos – Region: South Africa90 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 5/5
Nov. 11th, 2009
I really like this! It's astonishingly different from the other green Rooibos I've tried, from Upton. This one has a bit of red leaf/stem mixed in and brews a bright orange color.
I recommend a very long steeping time; after 3 minutes the aroma hasn't fully developed. The aroma is fresh, light, and clean, with a ...
South African Honeybush Superior Organic from Upton Tea Imports
Style: Honeybush – Region: South Africa60 / 100 Aroma: 5/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 4/5
Nov. 1st, 2009
The dry leaves have a fruitier aroma than the brewed tea, which is almost totally devoid of fruitiness, and is more earthy and slightly spicy. Tones of black pepper in the aroma.
Very full-bodied. Aftertaste is a bit flat. Not terribly complex in the aroma, but still enjoyable. I prefer Adagio's honeybush, which...
Organic Wild Rooibos Pyramid Tea from Equal Exchange
Style: Rooibos – Region: South Africa70 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 3/5
Nov. 1st, 2009
Aroma darker and more earthy, less fruity, than other rooibos I've tried. Flavor smooth but with some zing to it, without being bitter or too sour. Some astringency, but not too much.
I like this much, much better than other "non-wild" red rooiboses that I've tried. Although I still prefer green rooibos, this is ...
Rooibos from Adagio Teas
Style: Rooibos – Region: South Africa47 / 100 Aroma: 5/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 2/5
Oct. 31st, 2009
The dry leaf is strongly aromatic but the brewed tea is only moderately so. Smooth, a bit grassier and much less fruity than most rooibos. Very thin, however. A bit dry tasting, a little bit sour, and leaves a funny aftertaste that builds as you drink the cup.
Of the teas I've tried from Adagio, this was my least...
Honeybush from Adagio Teas
Style: Honeybush – Region: South Africa63 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 2/5 Value: 4/5
Oct. 30th, 2009
Very sweet and fruity; this is without a doubt the sweetest and fruitiest honeybush I've ever tried. Almost candy-like, with an aroma like dried fruit. Less of the earthy or straw-like tones that I was expected.
A bit light and thin-bodied, however. Less rich than other honeybush I've tried.
I'm still not sure...
South African Green Rooibos (Red Bush) Superior from Upton Tea Imports
Style: Green Rooibos – Region: South Africa93 / 100 Aroma: 9/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 5/5
Oct. 13th, 2009
Green rooibos is one of my all-time favorite herbal teas. Upton's offering is very similar to other sources of this herb, but I find theirs has a slightly greener character, and is among the most reasonably priced, and for both of these reasons, it is my green rooibos of choice. I drink this particular offering from ...

Style: Rooibos – Region: South Africa63 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 4/5
Sep. 13th, 2009
I find it hard to describe the aroma of Roobos. This one is typical among Rooibos that I've tried...earthy, woody, a hint of olives and spice in the aroma. The flavor is smooth with some sourness. Rich and pleasant.
I found the brewing instructions to be right-on; you can even steep longer with good results. If ...
Honeybush Green from Upton Tea Imports
Style: Honeybush – Region: South Africa63 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Sep. 12th, 2009
I find this tea very hard to describe in words.
The aroma of this tea is very similar to that of regular (fermented) honeybush, although perhaps a bit lighter: it is warm and rich, similar to Rooibos but less grassy. The flavor has some crispness but not much bitterness. There's little sourness in the initial flav...
