Napoléon Tea from TWG Tea

Style: Flavored Black Tea – Region: Blend

91 / 100 Aroma: 9/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 4/5
Mar. 27th, 2025

Napoléon Tea conquered me, quickly. Of all the samplers I sniffed in TWG's Bangkok store, this was one of the strongest, and certainly the most attractive to me in terms of choosing a priority for which ones to buy. The dry and in-cup aromas weren't quite as intense as the sampler, but still quite mouth-watering.

Golden Earl Grey from TWG Tea

Style: Earl Grey Tea – Region: Blend

78 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 3/5
Mar. 3rd, 2025

This tea came from a TWG shop in Bangkok, weighed and bagged onsite out of the top 1/4 of a wholesale bucket. As such, it smelled and tasted (and should be!) really fresh, and is excellent in quality on both counts. The dry aroma is quite fruity, more in a berry-like way than citrus, but with the bergamot orange stil...

Uplift (Minty Lemon Green) from Shanti Tea

Style: Flavored Green Tea – Region: Darjeeling, India

60 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 3/5
Feb. 20th, 2025

This is a fairly light, snappy Darjeeling green plus some peppermint, and a dash of lemon (which the company website calls "lemon pieces and natural lemon essence.") Overall, it is pleasant enough. It is advertised as "perfect for hot summer days" and they recommend cold brewing it, so I will have to try it on ice at...

Fountain of Youth from Shanti Tea

Style: Flavored Green Tea – Region: ?????

55 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 2/5 Value: 3/5
Jan. 10th, 2025

Green tea with "cinnamon, berries, herbs, and flowers." That sounds good, but overall it is bland and light, without much flavor of either tea or adjuncts. The aroma is nice enough, and it is reasonably priced, but this is another disappointing tea in my last batch from Shanti. It could be that they are using up ingred...

Black Maple from Shanti Tea

Style: Flavored Black Tea – Region: ?????

65 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 2/5
Jan. 8th, 2025

This has a strong, pipe tobacco-like aroma. The flavor is mild black tea - not the "strong black tea" the label mentions - plus a dash of maple. It makes a pleasant cup, with milk and sugar.

Winter Wonderland from Shanti Tea

Style: Flavored Black Tea – Region: ?????

40 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 1/5 Value: 2/5
Jan. 6th, 2025

I am pretty disappointed in this one, as I have had other flavored teas from Shanti that were very impressive. This is very bland, and lacks both spice and tea flavor. I made a few cups, and tried longer steeps, but to no avail. The list of ingredients is promising, but the tea itself is a dud.

Peppermint Bark from Great Value

Style: Flavored Black Tea – Region: Blend

59 / 100 Aroma: 4/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5
Jan. 1st, 2025

Peppermint Bark doesn't have much bite, but it's still fairly tasty. Overall, the tea fulfills its mission to replicate the flavor of the candy, with a creamy, smooth, almost savory taste, and a reasonably good balance between the mint and chocolate. That's because cocoa shells and carob are used to flavor the tea, i...

I’m not a huge Earl Grey person, but I think this one is done well! The flavor is strong and pleasant. I brewed it as directed (200°F, steeped for four minutes). I covered it while brewing with a silicone mug cap. It drank two good-size mugs of this tea and enjoyed both. People into bagged Earl Grey should like this...

Lovely tea! It smells and tastes quite good for a bagged tea. I enjoy its level of sweetness, which does taste like butterscotch. Solid quick tea.

Cocoa Berry Black Tea Blend from Trader Joe's

Style: Flavored Black Tea – Region: Blend

76 / 100 Aroma: 9/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 4/5
Dec. 21st, 2024

The RateTea page for Trader Joe's states, "Many of Trader Joe's teas are experimental and are only available for short runs before being discontinued." Such appears to be the case for this interesting blend, which is specifically advertised on the website as "Limited time only!" as of Dec. 2024. Maybe that's because ...

Dec. 19th, 2024

I enjoyed this slightly floral (jasmine) and very white, simple tea. Very good on it's own - I prefer it hot. Not enough body for an iced tea. I did add a bit of maple syrup to it, but it is fine unsweetened, too. I like it.

Ginger Peach from Teavana

Style: Flavored Green Tea – Region: Blend

45 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 2/5 Value: 2/5
Nov. 30th, 2024

Going off the price listed on Amazon ($15/24-ct box as of this writing), this tea is not worth the trouble. After tasting it, I'm not sure I'll even try it for "free" again at a conference or hotel.

This is supposed to be a ginger- and peach-flavored green tea, which sounds like a good combination, and somewhat sm...

Modern Earl Grey from Teavana

Style: Earl Grey Tea – Region: ?????

79 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 4/5
Nov. 1st, 2024

After a phase of pyramidal sachets in covered plastic cups a few years ago, Teavana seems to have been reconstituted yet again—this time as a line of individually wrapped bagged teas on the target-audience level of Tazo or Stash, but costlier. At a conference, I saw several new Teavana offerings, and took samples ho...

Earl Grey from Benner Tea Co

Style: Earl Grey Tea – Region: Blend

72 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 5/5
Aug. 30th, 2024

Benner Earl Grey (from ALDI food stores) came across much the opposite to me, on first try, as to the other reviewer: weak on bergamot and OK on tea. In fact, when opening the paper wrapper for each bag and taking a good sniff, I hardly could detect the bergamot, but the tea was obvious in the dry aroma. The bergamo...

I tried this both hot and iced, and while it is fine hot, it is meant to be served in the summer on ice (with sugar or honey of course, and a squeeze of lemon is good to have as well). It is mostly organic, with only the "natural essences" being not organic. The aroma is floral and fruity, and the flavor emphasizes t...

This is a surprising tea. I never saw one of these before, and until now, I thought only lunatics would attempt to mix tea with coffee. It is a blend of black tea, a few coffee beans, sunflowers, and natural caramel flavoring. I was pleasantly surprised at the rich flavor (when made with milk and sugar of course). T...

Crimson Elixir from Shanti Tea

85 / 100 Aroma: 9/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 5/5
Jul. 24th, 2024

This is a very unusual tea - I am a little unsure how I feel about it, so I may amend this review later. It is made with hibiscus, elderberries, and beet root and, strangely enough, they recommend steeping for just 2 minutes. I am guessing that is to prevent the tart hibiscus from stepping in and dominating the flavor...

Kama Sutra Chai from Shanti Tea

Style: Chai / Spiced Tea – Region: India

80 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 5/5
Jul. 24th, 2024

This makes a very sweet, floral chai, which is not surprising, since it contains 3 kinds of flowers, in addition to cinnamon and other spices. The flavor is a little extravagant, but nice. I see that my review is very different from Alex's - maybe the formula has changed, or perhaps our taste buds are different.

Here's another tea that has been around a long time, but somehow, I haven't tried nor reviewed it until now! A restaurant in Minnesota served this tea on good water, and I got a second bag to take home and chug as well.

Both times, the impression I got was: this is a pleasantly good, herb-dusted cinnamon infusio...

Jun. 6th, 2024

This peculiar combination came from a Days Inn in Hays, KS, and tasted really nice on their water, so I brought a bag home to try as well. Rituals Teas in general seem to perform above most food-service offerings, and this was no exception.

The type made me curious, because I've never seen orange and jasmine paired...

This is an ok chai, the aroma is nice. It seems the cardamom and cloves are the 2 spices that most come through in this blend, I wish there was a little more flavor and aroma. It's a bit astringent and I would probably prefer this with milk. It's a little thin too, it's definitely not my favorite cup of chai but it was...

I was very pleasantly surprised by this. I just finished disrespecting another fruit flavored tea from Upton, so I was not expecting much, but this is, as advertised, very fruity and tropical. With a name like mango indica, I don't know if I am supposed to smoke this or drink it (lol). The aroma is nice, strong, and fruity, so I give them credit for that. But the flavor is dominated by - surprise, surprise - Lifesavers candy-type artificial fruit flavor. When will I learn? It is time for me to stop purcha...

May. 23rd, 2024

Disclaimer: I am trying this tea that has been in my cupboard for many years, possibly up to 10, so this rating may not be a completely accurate representation of what this tea would be like fresh. Black tea often mellows with age and loses aroma, and I would say this tea is certainly mellow but yet I still like it. It...

I really enjoy this tea! Disclaimer: I'm cleaning out my old tea cabinet and found this tea from 2014, so it is 10 years old now. Despite its old age this tea stayed very pleasant tasting, it was mellow and warm and comforting. The black tea itself mellowed out which I don't mind, and the spices like cardamon and cinna...
