Extra Strong from PG Tips
Style: Black Tea – Region: ?????78 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 5/5

PG Extra Strong is a no-frills but robustly flavored black tea that delivers a nice punch of tea for about 10 to 11 cents a bag (from an 80-ct box). This British tea (now under the Lipton/Unilever corporate umbrella) was on sale at the World Market where I bought a big box of Typhoo's same-named tea a few years ago. ...

The aroma is strong and smokey, it reminds me of a Lap sang souchon. The liquor (5 min steep) is more red than brown. The flavor is mild, with the smokey after taste that stays on the tongue. Pleasant, and aromatic. A good choice for any time of day.

The package list this tea as a blend of Assam and Kenyan black teas. The aroma has the strong earthy scent that is pleasant. The liquor is a strong, deep brown with a slight red tint (5 min steep). The taste has a tangy after taste, I associate with the Kenyan tea. Strong, great for a morning wake up. Certainly, strong...

Not great, but decent and tolerable: that's how I'll characterize this blend. In my relatively limited experience, many food-service black teas (including English Breakfasts) taste rather flat, hollow, sometimes excessively bitter, or often weak, as if they've either been allowed to sit out in the open for 20 years, ...

This is a very nice tea. Small black leaves with some gold strands. It brews up light color, brown/black, very clear. It has a nice peppery taste with a decent caffeine kick. Very nice in the afternoon.

When I ordered some herbs from iHerb.com, they had better prices for Barry's teas than I can get locally, so I bought a few varieties to try and this is one of them. My box says "Irish Breakfast," so that's where I'm putting the review, but it's otherwise the same green box as the "Original Blend" and I suspect they're...

The aroma has a earthiness from the Pu-erh and the Keemun. The liquor is a deep brown (5min). Flavor is nice, mild, with a slight sweet after taste. Very enjoyable.

The aroma is earthy with a slight fruitiness. The liquor brews (5min) to a deep brown color. Flavor is good, with no real highlights or after taste. Easy to sip.

Brought home from a low-grade motel somewhere in southwestern New Mexico, this tea wasn't high on my priority list to try. Cheap motels are that way for a reason—well, several reasons—one being those that do bother to offer tea often buy cheap tea in bulk from Wal-Mart. The nearest Wal-Mart to this place was at l...

Aroma: Smelling the dry tea, there is a fairly substantial coconut flesh aroma that thankfully stays away from the artificial sun tan lotion notes that can often plague many coconut products. In the mug, the rich malty notes from the black tea are dominant with a mild creamy coconut not...

Dec. 21st, 2020

Appearance: deep red with some oil residue on top of the tea (from the candy cane, I’d guess)
Aroma: This smells incredible. So much peppermint. Of even go as far as to say that it’s the specific peppermint that I’d associate with a candy cane. Incredibly well done.

A delicious, fragrant and strong-brewing decaf sachet. I take it plain but could easily add milk and/or sugar or sweetener if desired. So comforting. Not too expensive - nice tin and sachets.

Not bad, considering this is a teabag. It tastes like a basic but not bitter black tea, and I do notice some raisin-like notes as well. It’d be a good at-work tea.

I was really excited to see loose-leaf tea for sale in ALDI, and I eagerly bought this. I can't remember how much it cost but I think it was around $5. I had written some time back about how frustrated I was at how bad the tea bag teas from Benner Tea Co, the ALDI generic brand, were.
ALDI consistently has high-qual...

Lipton gets a bad rap. I get it too. It’s light, bland, and shallow.
I over-steeped my tea because I start with water that is less than a rolling boil, but really it was because I needed all that time to bring out any semblance of taste.
Lipton is a tea, but that’s about it.
You don’t even need two sente...

Classic English Breakfast tea but I expected more from Twinings here. You aren't hit by this tea (like by Typhoo). I like a bit of a stronger note in taste. This one is unspectacular. I really tried to find something special in this tea but didn't find anything.

Cup at home. Pours nearly clear light copper brown with no sediment. Clear but mild aroma of black tea, with very mild hints of caramel. Smooth but bitter flavour of black tea, ending on a dryish note. This is my staple black tea, which I drink several times a day when I don't have the time to enjoy more sophisticated ...

It's been a while since I've had tea from Barry's. I've had the Gold Blend in the past and I really liked it so I figured I would try the Irish Breakfast. On the front on the box it says it's their "lightest and most refreshing blend," but I don't agree with that haha!
It brews up a nice dark color with some slight...
Orange Pekoe & Pekoe Cut Black Tea from Cain's

For background, Cain's has a similar-sounding black tea that I've seen sold in stores here in Oklahoma for many years, but haven't tried yet. It comes in large-sized bags for the purpose of brewing a couple quarts at a time to make iced tea, but I don't know if it's the same blend of pekoes as this single-serving, foo...

Caffeine generally doesn't bother me, even before sleepytime (lower-case, not to be confused with the Celestial Seasonings brand of herbal tea). As such, I am still rather inexperienced with decaf teas, outside of 1) a couple of lame food-service brands and 2) a strongly flavored variety that I have loved dearly for a...

Finely chopped, decaf, food-service black teas in wax-paper wrappers don't inspire a great deal of confidence, so I guess this offering managed to exceed my low expectations.

English Afternoon from Twinings

Jul. 15th, 2019
The box says that it's a blend of Keemun and Ceylon teas. There are notes of cocoa and dark bread crust and the flavor's quite complex for grocery store tea, but it's too bitter and astringent.
The tea gets better and mellows a bit as it cools. The cocoa becomes more pronounced and I can taste the sweetness from the...

Since finding their regular bagged tea a couple years ago, I was hoping to run across the decaf version for a taste test too, and also, for a pre-bedtime black-tea chug after another day spent roaming the highways and byways of this land. For some reason, outside of the occasional Bigelow bag, it's hard to find decaf ...
