Himalayan from Murchie's Tea & Coffee Ltd

My first Nepalese tea was a pleasant experience, but only after a little trial and error. First, the aroma: a good bit milder than the flavor, but pleasant, earthy, and floral, as if in a freshly watered flower garden with just a few active blooms of marigold or carnation wafting their scents airborne.
The first...

Nepal Guranse Estate Organic Oolong Tea from Simpson & Vail
Style: Oolong Tea – Region: Nepal90 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 5/5

This tea is really great! The taste is very smooth, it's not too astringent or bitter. The aroma is very nice, it has a slight dank pu erh smell, which is interesting and I like it. The aroma is mild, most likely though because this tea I am tasting is old (2018) and was in my pantry for a while. For a tea that is not ...

This is a smooth, mild tea - but not lacking in flavor. It seems similar to a good quality Darjeeling or a Ceylon. A little overpriced imo, but good.

The aroma, for me, reminds me of menthol. Think 'Vics vapo rub'. The medicine like aroma is unusual. The aroma is present in the liquor. The liquor (5 min steep) is a very dark brown, bordering on black. The taste is good, with a slight sweet after taste (peach, maybe). While not disappointing, it would not be my first...

This is for the 2020 vintage. For some reason, for me at least, when it comes to teas, higher prices do not necessarily mean a more satisfying tea. Usually it means more subtle nuances of flavor and aroma. This moderately expensive tea is an example of what I mean. It is fairly mild and there are some light, nippy ...

Half-litre pot at home, made from fine rolled leaves of organic Oolong. Pours clear dark straw (against white china) without any sediment. Clear aroma of black tea, with notes of leaves and touches of nuts. Delicate, bitterish, leafy flavour with floral and nutty touches. Smooth palate, leaving only mild astringent tan...

Half-litre pot at home. Pours clear dark amber with no sediment. Clear aroma of pure black tea, with very mild hints of orange. Delicate flavour of fine tea leaves, with barely discernible touches of bark. Bitter, slightly astringent palate with a gentle, slightly acidic aftertaste. Clean and of very fine quality, tast...

Has an almost musty earthiness to it. Would not drink it cold. Very dark aroma and flavor with a lingering undesirable aftertaste.

Without a doubt my favorite tea I've ever tried from Nepal. A singular tea with an intoxicating floral fragrance and an ethereal quality overall. Another sample from Simpson & Vail, thank you, and apologies for taking so long to post this one!
This tea was fascinating: visually, the leaf looks more like a Chinese te...

Nepal Guranse Estate Organic Oolong Tea from Simpson & Vail
Style: Oolong Tea – Region: Nepal84 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 4/5

A good tea that resembled Darjeeling first flush teas and probably would have convinced me it was a "black" tea if it had not been labeled as an oolong. It's more like a Himalayan black tea that had something different or unusual about it. Not what I expected; it was nothing like Chinese oolongs, nor like Darjeeling oo...

The dry leaves look green, orange and black, and the used leaves a really soft greenish orange. The liquid is much lighter than most other black teas I have.
This tea is extremely smooth and soft and tastes kind of earthy. It doesn't easily get bitter.

Himalayan Green Dazzle from Udyan Tea

I took a long time to review this tea because it didn't impress me at first, but I thought it would be better in hot weather, and having saved a bit for the warmer weather, it's exactly like I thought: I like this more on a hot day.
This tasted (but not looked) the most like a Chinese green tea of any green tea that...

Himalayan Oolong Tea from Udyan Tea

A singular tea! This was the first Nepal-grown Oolong that I've tried. I find oolongs from the Himalayan region (I've tried seven from Darjeeling) to be incredibly variable. This was probably my second-favorite and was among my favorite of all teas labeled as oolongs, although it bears little resemblance to oolongs o...

A beautiful blend. I love rose green tea and I thought this one was exceptional. It's one of the best blended or flavored green teas I've had.
The dry leaf of this smells wonderful and balanced...I can actually smell the tea, usually rose overpowers base teas, especially green teas. The tea smells light and vegeta...

Nepal 2nd Flush 2014 Golden Tips Black Tea from What-Cha

Jan. 28th, 2015
The aroma rich, a touch on the sweet side, but more rich than sweet. The notes are primarily roasted peanuts, malt, and a touch of sweet potatoes and stewed fruit. At the end there is the most delicate note of rose and pepper, I run into pepper quite often, but the notes of rose were a pleasant surprise.
Ok, first s...

Nepal 2nd Flush 2014 Dew Drops Green Tea from What-Cha
Style: Green Tea – Region: Nepal80 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Jan. 7th, 2015
The aroma is a bit sweet, a blend of toasted sesame and freshly cut grass, a bit of distant floral and a touch of mineral at the finish. The tight little balls did not give up their scent easily, it required much sniffing, but the aroma that did come off of them was light and clean.
The taste of the first steep is ...

The dry tea is a mixture of green leaves and fuzzy silver buds. It smells a little bit sweet. It brews up to a light golden liquor, with a scent that’s very fresh and reminds me of a spring breeze. The flavour is sweet and vegetal, like fresh spring peas or new green grass. The mouthfeel is very smooth with just a hi...

Another What-Cha tea! This black tea has twisty leaves that range from brown to gold. Just as the hot water was hitting them I got this aroma of spicy baked… something. Not spicy enough to be gingerbread, but like, maybe a sugar cookie with cinnamon on top? Once brewed, I smelled it again and was like “Oh, so when ...

Dried tea consists of lovely, fuzzy silver buds, with a faintly floral/earthy scent. Brewed, the leaves smell much more vegetal, and I think there’s a specific vegetable there that I just can’t identify. It brews up pale yellow, and smells like fresh hay. Taste is a bit sweet, a bit mineral, with more hay and veget...

This is a nice medium bodied black tea. It brewed up surprisingly dark after only 2min. The aroma is actually a bit floral, but the flavour is more fruity. A bit of drying sensation in the mouth by the end of the cup. Reminds me a bit of a 2nd flush darjeeling?

Himalayan-Imperial Black from Octavia Tea

A mellow, mild, yet fascinatingly novel tea.
This tea tastes a lot more like an oolong than a black tea. The leaf is huge, unusual for teas grown in the Himalayan region. I found it very complex and very enjoyable, but I could see it disappointing if I were expecting a black tea. Most lighter black teas from Nepa...

Style: Green Tea – Region: Nepal83 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5

The aroma of the leaf balls is very green and quite sweet, there are notes of cut grass, freshly broken green stems, a tiny bit of hay, and a nice sharp finishing note of citrus. It has a very refreshing aroma that I hope carries over to the brewed tea.
The first steep can be summed up best as odd yet refreshing! As...

Muscatel and plum scent, and the plum comes out with absolute loveliness in the liquor—sweet, and just slightly astringent. Additional sips bring out a blossoming plum and grape richness, that quickly gives way to a cooling tart astringency. Every sip is filled with juicy-ripe fruit. A beautiful tea, and easily an eq...

The aroma of the needles is as beautiful as the leaves, very light and delicate with notes of chestnuts, fresh hay, mown grass, and an ocean breeze. I have such a weakness for teas that have a marine note to their taste or aroma, it instantly transports me to the beach and that makes me immensely happy. I think I am ju...
