Tai Xing Jin Xuan from Tea From Taiwan
Style: Milky Oolong – Region: Chiayi (County), Taiwan80 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Jun. 5th, 2014
I purchased the Spring 2014 batch in a sample pack. The tea has a lovely flavor and has a creamy feel, but I didn’t get the milky flavor I was hoping for. To be fair, I did eat recently, so I am going to brew this again and see what I come up with. I liked this tea, but I am hoping a second try will give me the chanc...

The dry tea smells lightly roasty and floral. While brewing, I can pick up some fruity aromas, like grape.
The flavor of the brewed tea is smooth and roasty. It has a subtle spinach flavor. I don't really taste any of the floral or fruity notes from the aroma, but that's ok, because I still really like this one...

Superfine Taiwan Moderately-Roasted Dong Ding Oolong Tea from TeaVivre
Style: Oolong Tea – Region: Nantou, Taiwan80 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5

Pumpkin Guts! The dry leaves smell like pumpkin carving time. This is great for me, since I happen to love that time of year, as well as pumpkins. While steeping, the tea smells green and sweet. It smells only very faintly roasted.
The flavor is mild and a little more roastiness is apparent in the flavor than th...

Superfine Taiwan Ali Shan Oolong Tea from TeaVivre
Style: Oolong Tea – Region: Taiwan / Formosa63 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5

I thought this oolong was ok, but not amazing. I've been drinking some outstanding oolongs lately. Maybe it's becoming harder to impress me!
I was feeling very lazy this AM, so I made the mistake of brewing this grandpa style with about a tsp of leaves in my Dr. Who mug at 208 degrees. I didn't get many pleasant ...

Dong Ding from Yezi Tea
Style: Oolong Tea – Region: Taiwan / Formosa77 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
May. 10th, 2014
This had a very green aroma and flavor, and while I liked it, I didn't pick up on any special scents or tastes. It just tasted like a slightly sweet greenish tea.
Absolutely drinkable, but there are several teas from a yezi that I like better, so I'll be sticking with those.
Edit 5/19/14 - I made this grandpa s...

Ginseng Vitality Oolong from Teasenz
Style: Ginseng Oolong – Region: Taiwan / Formosa80 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
May. 8th, 2014
I found the aroma to be very green, like bamboo leaves and herbaceous like dill weed. There is also earthiness and the aroma of baked bread with a slight undertone of sweetness. The ginseng is an odd smelling herb, it gives a slight muskiness to the already herbaceous aroma.
The taste is strange yet good, it is the ...

Da Yu Ling Oolong Tea from Yezi Tea
Style: High Mountain Oolong – Region: Taichung, Taiwan97 / 100 Aroma: 10/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 4/5
May. 3rd, 2014
This tea is gorgeous. I'm a little bit in love, with a tea. I'm resisting the urge to write: "on nom nom" as the entire review, because that's probably not very helpful.
The dry tea smells like green tea, but after steeping, it smells like sweet flowers, with a little bit of berry. It smells like summer!

Red Jade Tea from Eco-Cha
Style: Black Tea – Region: Nantou, Taiwan90 / 100 Aroma: 9/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 4/5
Apr. 20th, 2014
The aroma of the curly long leaves is nothing short of complex, blending rich cocoa, roasted peanuts, cloves, a bit of barley, and a woody quality. The aroma is more savory than sweet, in fact it is all savory instead of sweet, with a strong and heavy presence. This is a tea that will be noticed!
With the first sip ...

Crane Monk - Light Oolong from Temple Road
Style: Oolong Tea – Region: Taiwan / Formosa100 / 100 Aroma: 10/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 5/5
Apr. 15th, 2014
I snipped open the sample package and was immediately slammed with intense floral aroma, I am not saying it was overwhelming (because flowers make me happy) but it was incredibly intense! The aroma is an incredibly heady mix of orchids and hyacinth flowers with a sweet honeysuckle quality. The floral aroma fades to gre...

Da Yu Ling Oolong Tea from Yezi Tea
Style: High Mountain Oolong – Region: Taichung, Taiwan100 / 100 Aroma: 10/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 5/5
Apr. 12th, 2014
Very sweet and yeasty, like freshly baking bread. There is also the intoxicating scent of honey and orchids with a small afterthought of allspice. Here is where it gets weird, the aroma reminds me of the smell of Amanita bisporigera aka Destroying Angel, the world's most toxic mushroom, and that is awesome. How is that...

Li Shan Oolong Tea from Yezi Tea
Style: Oolong Tea – Region: Chiayi (County), Taiwan100 / 100 Aroma: 10/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 5/5
Apr. 12th, 2014
The main floral aroma is honeysuckles, not so much the heady summery aroma of honeysuckles but the late spring early bloom where the flowers are just starting to open their petals. Hiding beneath the freshly blooming honeysuckles are notes of sweet honey and a touch of rose.
I was able to get four steeps using West...

The aroma is spectacular. It is very rich, blending heady orchids and honeysuckle nectar with roasted chestnut and a hint of spinach. At the finish there is a slight sweet bread quality, specifically fresh yeasty bread drizzled with honey.
The Teavivre website recommends eight steeps for this tea, and I got eight st...

Style: Oolong Tea – Region: Taiwan / Formosa100 / 100 Aroma: 10/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 5/5
Mar. 27th, 2014
The aroma of the dried leaves is quite intense, blending notes of caramelized sugar and roasted nuts with lesser notes of raisins. The tightly rolled leaves have a finishing aroma of coal and fresh wood. I was pleasantly surprised at how sweet the aroma is, it blends really well with the smoky coal finish. Once steeped...

I thought this tea was amazing. It went further than any tea I've had before at 5 cups with the same leaves, with a similar strength. I honestly think I could have brewed more, but my meeting was finished and I had to dump the remainder. I could gush about the vegetal taste of this tea, it was all I could want and mo...

I especially enjoyed the roasty flavor of this tea. There definitely was a slight sweetness, which from my own preferences, I wasn't a huge fan of. I always find it impressive when I get a few cups of tea with similar strength off the same leaves, and this tea delivered. I've only had two oolongs from Eco-Cha so far...

The aroma of the loose leaves is a mix of roasted nuts, honey, and sesame seeds. It reminds of sesame honey candy and is quite delicious smelling. Brewing the leaves brings out vegetal qualities and sharp notes of fruit and osmanthus flowers. The liquid without the leaves have a roasted nuts and lettuce aroma.
The ...

I thought this tea was fantastic. I loved the vegetable flavors and light floral tone. The only thing I didn't like was the mild sweetness, but that hardly changes how much I enjoyed it. I also loved that I was able to brew four cups out of out one sample packet, without the tea loosing any flavor!

Dong Ding Oolong Tea from Eco-Cha
Style: Oolong Tea – Region: Nantou, Taiwan90 / 100 Aroma: 10/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Feb. 3rd, 2014
This tea just smells so freaking good. It is potent and tends to brew up strong, very roasty, so I recommend going easy on the leaf and/or the steeping time.
The cup is rich and dark cup, and the aroma is very complex, especially if sipping it gradually. Smells like roasted vegetables with a hint of the spent gunp...

Jin Xuan Milk Oolong from Octavia Tea
Style: Milky Oolong – Region: Taiwan / Formosa77 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Jan. 27th, 2014
A relatively mild, easy-to-brew oolong with a milky fragrance and lemony tang.
I recently tried a Jin Xuan oolong from the company Eco-Cha, and comparing it with this one was like night and day, as much as you can get with a green oolong. While that one was buttery, this tea was milky.
The dry leaf is very tight...

Shan Lin Xi High Mountain Black Tea from Eco-Cha
Style: Black Tea – Region: Nantou, Taiwan60 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 2/5
Jan. 27th, 2014
A complex, strange, evolving tea, both unexpected and a bit inaccessible. Try as I might, I cannot mentally perceive this as a black tea...it still screams oolong to me. I find I enjoy it much more if I think of it like an oolong. But, thinking about it like an oolong, it tasted too much like a Bai Hao (Oriental Bea...

I loved this tea...it is extremely green and light for an oolong, and has a distinctive "tropical greenhouse" aroma. A little picky about brewing, but worth it because the results were pretty astounding when I figured out how to brew it to my liking.
Intensely floral and vegetal, like the inside of a greenhouse fil...

Style: High Mountain Oolong – Region: Nantou, Taiwan90 / 100 Aroma: 10/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5

A roasted tea with a mellow, warm, homey quality. I thought this an exceptional tea, definitely my favorite one sampled from Eco-Cha, but ranking among my favorite oolongs ever sampled.
The dry leaf smells of rich roast, with a background of honey-like qualities.
Upon brewing it becomes much more complex. Aroma...

Jin Xuan Oolong Tea from Eco-Cha
Style: Milky Oolong – Region: Nantou, Taiwan63 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 2/5
Jan. 14th, 2014
A buttery-smooth oolong that was pleasing, but I thought a bit boring. I'm not familiar with Jin Xuan (other than reading about it), so it may be that I'm just not a fan of this varietal.
Dry leaf is not very aromatic, but the brewed cup is more so.
Buttery and vegetably, with a smooth, silky texture. The aroma...

Ruby Black Tea (Broken Leaf) from Health & Tea
Style: Black Tea – Region: Taiwan / Formosa73 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5

This tea brews very quickly, which is convenient. It has an interesting aroma. It smells kind of like cereal. It's very strong, and a little more bitter than I would ideally like, but overall, I like it. It tastes rich and crisp, and a little bit tangy. I added cream and sugar.
