Genmaicha Green Tea Whole Leaf from Ten Ren Tea

Not bad at all! I was pleasantly surprised by this tea. I'd had tea flavored with rice before and not cared for it, but the flavor of this one was distinctly different. Specifically, it tasted like lightly sweetened puffed rice cereal balanced with the more savory flavor of tea itself. The puffed rice was dominant for ...

This tea has the unmistakably roasty smell of genmaicha. It's made with ancient rice, brown rice and rice pops. The flavor is very good and I had a nice, warm fuzzy feeling as I was drinking this. That lasted until I read my emails at work and lost my happy tea buzz.
The tea was very enjoyable. Work is not.

An above-average genmaicha, with a bolder green tea presence and less rice. The base tea is smooth, fruity, and less vegetal than typical for Japanese green teas.
The dry tea bag, which is a flat paper bag filled with relatively intact whole leaf tea, didn't smell great, but as soon as I poured water over it, a ver...

This tea really grew on me, and by the end I adored it. The sample I got - which was enough for one cup - suggested brewing it very quickly, just 30-45 seconds, with water just below the boiling point. In retrospect I think that following those instructions would have worked out well, but I'm paranoid about using water...

The aroma is a lovely blend of nuttiness, vegetal and sweet. The brewed leaves have a toasted quality along with a blend of green beans and a hint of citrus. All the scents are subtle and balanced.
The taste is quite different from the traditional Japanese Genmaicha, more vegetal and herbaceous rather than grassy. ...

I used to drink this brand a long time ago, and I liked it quite a lot. I recently had the opportunity to sample a tea bag of this particular tea again. It's just how I remember it--and very enjoyable.
Teabag has a strong aroma of toasted rice, suggestive of popcorn. Brews a light greenish-brown cup that is very ...
Gyokuro Genmaicha Green Tea from Teavana

If this tea you will prepare well, it taste amazing, if the teavana staff will prepare well good it taste a great gyocuro with a mild touch of rice, if not taste a burnt rice and bitter Gyocuro.
In the Daikoku restaurant of mexico city prepare genmaicha, but without gyocuro and taste well.

Dry leaf has a potent, cereal-like aroma.
First infusion brews a hazy, pale golden cup...it almost looks like there's a tiny bit of iridescent dust on top of the tea's surface.
Flavor is mild but delightful...sweet, crisp, and with a hint of a fruitiness that I can only describe as reminiscent of cola. It sort o...

This was a very good genmaicha; the base is a dark, wiry green tea, seems like a sencha. Interestingly, I tried it fairly soon after Octavia's genmaicha, which is my current favorite; the two teas are like night and day. This one brews up a very clear, golden-colored cup. Octavia's is much pricier and I think has a ...

Most genmaicha is more or less similar and I often find it hard to judge them. This was not true of this tea--it was completely different, and quickly became my favorite example of this style of tea.
Without a doubt the most aromatic genmaicha that I've ever tried. The base tea has a stronger presence, and more di...

The genmaicha is relatively grassy tasting with a bit of bitterness - but is still pleasant enough and certainly cheap enough to enjoy regularly. Good but not a holy grail.

A pleasant, perfectly drinkable tea that is dirt cheap. Although I didn't think it was great, it had few objectionable qualities and I actually think it is a pretty good buy. It seems to have much more toasted rice than tea leaf, and has a bitterness and sourness that I normally don't encounter in either genmaicha or...

Straight out of the bag, this tea had a strong matcha smell, very grassy in a fresh and invigorating way.
I didn't have a lot of tea to play with - I had only a small sample, and thanks to a spill I had an even smaller sample than usual - so I brewed it as close to the recommended instructions as possible - 194 F f...
Matcha Infused Genmaicha from Aiya

The presence of the matcha is boldly evident looking at the dry leaf, but upon brewing, this tea seemed pretty similar to other genmaicha--perhaps a tiny bit more cloudy, but similar flavor and aroma.
Pleasingly nutty and toasty aroma, with a hint of vegetal tones. Flavor is smooth and overall character is mellow.

This was the first Genmai Cha that I ever had years ago, so it has a real nostalgia value even though I have had better it is still a favorite. The aroma is really mild and slightly nutty and you get more rice than tea. The tea is also really mild but the longer you steep the tea the more the flavor bursts out, luckily...

This review is old and since I wrote it, I have tried other Genmai cha's. For the price you pay, you're getting a pretty good quality product. The tea is a decent quality, slightly sweet sencha while the rice adds this warm nutty flavor to it. This is more of a winter tea for me, but it would go great with chicken s...

I was skeptical of the tea because the scent reminded me of Honey Smack cereal (minus most of the sweetness), and I was never too fond of Honey Smacks.
This tea grew on me as is cooled down. When the tea was still hot, all I tasted was the puffed rice, and I couldn’t help but feel like I was drinking watery porri...

I am a big fan of Genmaicha and was really happy when Den's included this loose sample in with the rest of my latest order. Very mild, mellow flavor, but without being bland. This was good quality for a tea bag, and given that the tea bag did not seem to have the most generous quantity of leaf.
The brew is cloudy, as expected for a blend containing matcha, and the aroma is mostly of popcorn. More popcorn-like and less toasty than other...

Over the past year I have had some really mediocre genmaicha's, so I was pleasantly surprised when I recently tried Adagio Teas version of this Japanese classic. The initial sweet and nutty aroma of the dry tea transforms to a roasted rice and popcorn aroma as the tea steeps.

I was curious to try this to see if it was noticeably different from Genmaicha from the mainstream Japanese brands. It did seem a bit different.
Brews an opaque, light yellow cup. Typical genmaicha taste, but with more of the toasted rice aroma and less tea presence. Very smooth, mild, unobtrusive.

My first Genmaicha. Usually I drink Chinese teas, or at least Chinese style teas, so this is a bit of a departure for me.
This tea does not retain much of its Sencha characteristics, or at least they are somewhat covered up in the general style. The tea is brewed to a light color, a bit surprising for the aroma and ...

This tea was developed by the "lower" classes in Japan, to stretch out the expensive tea. I'm not usually a fan of Japanese greens, but I like this one because the toasty, popcorny, nuttiness makesa great combination with the greeniness of the tea itself. I think this is better than many I have had of genmaicha

The name of this tea should be a clue as to what you are going to get. It tastes like burnt rice. It is an unusual tea and certainly can be enjoyable, but it's likely that many people won't like it (especially if you've ever eaten burnt rice and didn't like it).
Making multiple cups doesn't work very well, after th...
