Organic Japanese Sencha from Two Leaves and a Bud
Style: Sencha – Region: Japan53 / 100 Aroma: 4/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5

I will start by saying right off, I am not a seasoned green tea drinker. I am learning. I found this at a local super market. Price was right, I felt, so I went for it. I will admit, I thought the packaging was 'cute', but the bag inside did rip easily as another reviewer noted, and was hard to keep the tea in. I ...

Very different from any other sencha I have tried. Complex, rich, and interesting. I would especially recommend this for people who don't like the fresh grassy and seaweedy tones of sencha, because it had the least of these characteristics of among any sencha I've tried. It was ever-so-slightly more oolong-like.

Sencha Overture from Adagio Teas
Style: Sencha – Region: Japan57 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 2/5

A very bold sencha that has a full body and pleasant aroma, but is easy to oversteep, and I find is a bit harsh no matter how I prepare it.
Dry leaf is very dark and smells strongly fruity, and has little of the vegetal or seaweedy tones I usually expect from sencha.
Brews a surprisingly bitter cup, but rather cl...

In short steeps, I find this sencha much better than if you you steep for the full 2 minutes recommended on the package. Nice aroma and flavor with grassy notes, and prominent brothy (umami) qualities that make it rich yet refreshing. The second and third steeps off the leaves always seem better to me. Affordable quali...

A very pleasant and affordable green tea. Strangely potent, given how mild tasting it is.
I tend not to like these matcha-infused teas, preferring either to drink actual matcha or just plain green tea, but this one was better than some of them. I also found that more of the matcha character came out in this tea th...
Okumidori Sencha from Wegmans
Style: Sencha – Region: Japan77 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 3/5

A good sencha that infuses very quickly. In my opinion, much better than Wegman's Tomo Sencha, although pricier.
The dry leaf has a very dark green color and fine texture, and is intensely aromatic: highly vegetal and suggestive of sweetness and umami.
Brews a surprisingly clear and pale cup, especially relative...
Matcha Infused Sencha from Aiya
Style: Sencha – Region: Japan73 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5

I played around with the brewing times on this one a bit, and find that I like it best a little 'overbrewed'. The website says to steep it at 176F for about a minute and a half, but that made it come out a little bland by my standards. Doubling the time to three minutes produced a bracing, umami type flavor I really li...

This is by far the oddest sencha I have tried. It completely lacked the fresh, herbal, almost "oceany" seaweed taste of an authentic sencha. It contained a stale off note that is hard to describe yet ruined the experience completely.
I cannot help wondering if something awful happened to this tea on its way to th...
Matcha Infused Sencha from Aiya

This is a totally different beast, in my opinion, from the matcha-infused Genmaicha from the same company, and was surprisingly different from their premium sencha as well.
Rich, nutty aroma, almost grainy or oatmeal-like. Somewhat dusty finish, but with a hint of floral tones like I have encountered in some pan-fi...
Premium Sencha from Aiya
Style: Sencha – Region: Japan73 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 2/5

This sencha struck me as very typical for the style, and very good.
Flavor is slightly sweet with noticable umami presence, aroma is nutty and somewhat grassy. Less of the seaweedy qualities common in sencha. Pleasing and easy to drink.
Very enjoyable. This is a pricey tea, however. Is it worth it? There are...

Among the cloudiest / most opaque sencha's I've seen...bright green in color, even in the second infusion.
Aroma and flavor are actually very similar to kukicha...less of the seaweedy or ocean-like qualities, fairly grassy, and almost twiggy. Also somewhat matcha-like.
This was an interesting change of pace...qu...
Sencha of the Summer Sun from Obubu Tea

A very nice sencha that brews up well in 4 infusions, keeping a bright green color and lightly savory flavor. Bright, lightly buttery, and yes a small amount of bitterness in the first brew. But a good kind of bitterness like fresh mustard greens or spinach. Shipped direct from Japan, this tea is actually quite reasona...

At the moment, this is probably my favorite everyday loose tea. Fukamushi Senchas are deep steamed when they are processed, making them exceptionally quick to brew, and letting them release their rich vegetal flavor in two to four steepings. Many can be a bit finicky to brew, but not this one from Den's.
The first ...

Even with a small quantity of leaf, this turned out nice and rich.
Aroma is typical for a sencha: grassy, and somewhat vegetal, with some mild toasty tones. The cup is a rich golden color. There's a fair amount of sweetness, and some pleasant bitterness and astringency. An above-average sencha with a classic char...

Brews a clear golden color, less opaque than most Sencha. Aroma seaweedy and vegetal, and only slightly grassy. Relatively smooth flavor, with a little astringency and bitterness. Overall this is a very typical sencha. Nothing about it stands out.
Rishi's brewing instructions result in a cup that on the weak sid...
Organic Japanese Sencha from Two Leaves and a Bud

This tea was interesting; I brewed it for 3 minutes at 180 degrees. I found it was only good for a single infusion, which is why I settled on 3 minutes. Longer steeping made it too bitter and strong for me, and many people may like a shorter infusion.
Two Leaves and a Bud describes this as "brisk", and I think thi...
Sencha "Matsuri" from Lupicia

This is my favorite green tea!!! A wonderfully mellow green tea that just always hits the spot and doesn't get bitter! Sencha Matsuri has a fantastic grassy/earthy smell (very "green"), it also brews to a wonderful green color, around the same shade as this website! As for the taste, it's a very classic green tea, but ...

Not a wuss tea; highly recommended.

Aroma mostly of sweet corn. There's a hint of roast in there too...but it's not always pleasant...it almost resembles the stale coffee aroma you get if you run hot water through a coffee machine that hasn't been cleaned in a while. Slightly sweet and also with some pleasant bitterness, and very little astringency. T...

This one surprised me; Upton threw it in as a free sample. I probably would have not bought it on my own because of the price, but now that I've tried it I think it offers pretty good value, although it is still expensive.
When brewed, this tea is opaque, less so than matcha but more so than most other sencha that ...
