Bio Jasmijn Groen from Het Gouden Randje

Style: Jasmine Tea – Region: Blend

64 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 4/5

Very powerful jasmine aroma (which is always just on the edge of agreeable for me, but that's just personal taste). Luckily the tea itself doesn't taste as sharp. Strong jasmine taste, but not too strong, a little sweet. It kind of dries the mouth, though.
The used leaves don't look too pretty; quite broken with lots ...

I have asked about Vietnamese teas so many times that the owner of Het Gouden Randje ordered this tea! She tells me she likes it too and that she'd already sold some to another customer, and thanked me for the tip. She also advised me to steep it multiple times, at least three.

It's cheap, too; just €5 per 100 g. ...

Sencha Kakegawa from Het Gouden Randje

I drank a cup of this tea at Het Gouden Randje.
It has a vegetal aroma and a grassy flavour. The colour is a lovely yellow-green. It has a pleasant hint of bitterness (which reminds me of UNAMI's Kabuse Cha, which is my only previous run-in with sencha). There's no sweetness in the flavour, and even though I usually l...

Milky Oolong from Het Gouden Randje

I drank this in Het Gouden Randje's tearoom.

It smelled sweet and creamy, and almost like custard. Definitely like vanilla. I was amazed with how the clear liquor tasted and felt milky. It's soft and sweetish.
It actually reminds me of a cheap artificial-vanilla-flavoured bagged tea that I used to drink years ago, ...

Aug. 11th, 2017

This is a new tea that Het Gouden Randje has just added to its inventory. I drank a cup of it in the tea shop, and I did my best to taste it properly. It's always difficult, though; I prefer to drink teas at home with more controlled conditions and multiple chances to get to know them properly.
I feel like this time e...

Terra Tee from Het Gouden Randje

Style: Flavored Rooibos – Region: Blend

49 / 100 Aroma: 5/10 Flavor: 2/5 Value: 4/5
Aug. 2nd, 2017

A friend of mine drinks lots of flavoured rooibos, and after trying a few cheap bagged varieties, I decided I like citrus-flavoured rooibos and got some loose rooibos.

This rooibos with (among others) lemongrass and ginger is okay, but I don't like it that much. I can't really get it to taste like much more than lem...

King of Pu Erh from Het Gouden Randje

Style: Pu-erh Tea – Region: Yunnan, China

58 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 2/5 Value: 3/5
Aug. 2nd, 2017

This tea smells pleasantly fungal and like straw, like damp autumn leaves and moist earth. The flavour is very soft and smooth and it never gets bitter or sour. I have, in the past, forgotten about it and left it to steep for more than five, maybe even ten minutes, and it's still been smooth. Even when it's strong, tho...

I bought this tea before and remember it as lovely and flowery, but when I bought more of it later, it just... wasn't so great.
It looks nice with the tightly rolled balls of leaves. It's got a kind of metallic taste that I find a bit unpleasant. That could be the jasmine-like taste that the product description mentio...

66 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 4/5
Jun. 25th, 2017

I asked the owner of Het Gouden Randje to recommend me a sweet black tea. Once it was cleared up that I wasn't interested in flavoured teas, I was offered this one, and I was charmed with the smell.

It smells warm and sweet with a hint of honey. If you don't use too much leaf, it doesn't easily get bitter even if yo...

I bought this to keep at my parents' house to use as everyday green tea. It's a bit too subtle for an everyday tea, though. I also never seem to be able to get my tea quite right here.
It is very light, but doesn't feel thin, and it has a slightly sweet aftertaste. The colour is a lovely bright greenish yellow.
I'm t...

Het Gouden Randje offers sweet high tea arrangements for groups of four to eight people, so I invited some friends along on my birthday. You get served three rounds, each with two kinds of tea and something sweet to eat (such as cookies, cake, parfaits...) You'll get to taste several different kinds of tea from very fa...

Jun. 9th, 2017

This is the standard Earl Grey carried by Het Gouden Randje, but it's unusually citrus-y. I mentioned once that this tea is different from other Earl Greys I'm used to and the owner of the shop told me that other customers had said similar things.

So, it tastes and smells really citrus-y, almost like it's flavoured ...

Jun. 8th, 2017

I asked the owner of Het Gouden Randje to recommend me a Chinese green tea, and she served me this. I don't usually go for flavoured teas, but this one was so good that I bought 50 grams of it. I can't actually remember the price (of course it doesn't help that I bought three other kinds of tea at the same time, as wel...
