Three Mint from Pukka

Style: Mint Tea – Region: ?????

60 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 3/5
Mar. 21st, 2025

Here's a blend of spearmint, peppermint and "field mint" (presumably wild mint), with a nice but unremarkable dry-bag aroma. The flavor was pleasant, smooth, and mild overall...too mild. As I've noted here before, I prefer the sharp, strong hit of a potent peppermint tea to all other mint teas; "potent" this was not,...

Detox - Pure Infusion from Shanti Tea

Style: Herbal Tea – Region: ?????

55 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 2/5
Feb. 20th, 2025

I don't know enough to comment on how healthy this tea really is, but it is made of "schisandra berries, burdock, yellow dock, lemongrass, dandelion leaf, red clover, and natural essences", so draw your own conclusions. I have never heard of some of those before, but it tastes all right, and has a mellow, herbal tisane...

Fountain of Youth from Shanti Tea

Style: Flavored Green Tea – Region: ?????

55 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 2/5 Value: 3/5
Jan. 10th, 2025

Green tea with "cinnamon, berries, herbs, and flowers." That sounds good, but overall it is bland and light, without much flavor of either tea or adjuncts. The aroma is nice enough, and it is reasonably priced, but this is another disappointing tea in my last batch from Shanti. It could be that they are using up ingred...

Black Maple from Shanti Tea

Style: Flavored Black Tea – Region: ?????

65 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 2/5
Jan. 8th, 2025

This has a strong, pipe tobacco-like aroma. The flavor is mild black tea - not the "strong black tea" the label mentions - plus a dash of maple. It makes a pleasant cup, with milk and sugar.

Winter Wonderland from Shanti Tea

Style: Flavored Black Tea – Region: ?????

40 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 1/5 Value: 2/5
Jan. 6th, 2025

I am pretty disappointed in this one, as I have had other flavored teas from Shanti that were very impressive. This is very bland, and lacks both spice and tea flavor. I made a few cups, and tried longer steeps, but to no avail. The list of ingredients is promising, but the tea itself is a dud.

Mint Herbal Tea from Rituals

Style: Peppermint Tea – Region: ?????

76 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Nov. 29th, 2024

Peppermint tea is going to get a good rating from me in general, since I like the flavor so much, unless the leaves are stale and/or weak. This is neither—flavorful and smooth, with a nice dry- and wet-bag aroma, as well as smell and taste in-cup. A restaurant serving this tea, especially in a small cup to maximize...

Organic Herbal Tea Supplement, Immunity from Great Value

Style: Herbal Tea – Region: ?????

77 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 5/5
Nov. 6th, 2024

This somewhat medicinally advertised herbal blend is mostly echinacea purpurea: American purple coneflower, a Great Plains flower that grows readily in the wild in nutrient-poor Okie red dirt, as well as in my own gardens. Nonetheless, the secondary ingredients—lemongrass, licorice and spearmint—dominate the aro...

Modern Earl Grey from Teavana

Style: Earl Grey Tea – Region: ?????

79 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 4/5
Nov. 1st, 2024

After a phase of pyramidal sachets in covered plastic cups a few years ago, Teavana seems to have been reconstituted yet again—this time as a line of individually wrapped bagged teas on the target-audience level of Tazo or Stash, but costlier. At a conference, I saw several new Teavana offerings, and took samples ho...

Extra Strong from PG Tips

Style: Black Tea – Region: ?????

78 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 5/5
Sep. 17th, 2024

PG Extra Strong is a no-frills but robustly flavored black tea that delivers a nice punch of tea for about 10 to 11 cents a bag (from an 80-ct box). This British tea (now under the Lipton/Unilever corporate umbrella) was on sale at the World Market where I bought a big box of Typhoo's same-named tea a few years ago. ...

Beautiful Mind from Shanti Tea

75 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 4/5
Aug. 22nd, 2024

This is a tisane crafted from a few herbs that supposedly provide a cognitive boost: gotu kola, gingko biloba, and ashwagandha, along with some other herbs that presumable add some flavor, like sage and lemon verbena. It also contains peppermint and rosemary, which some believe have healing or stimulating properties. ...

The aroma is strong and smokey, it reminds me of a Lap sang souchon. The liquor (5 min steep) is more red than brown. The flavor is mild, with the smokey after taste that stays on the tongue. Pleasant, and aromatic. A good choice for any time of day.

The package list this tea as a blend of Assam and Kenyan black teas. The aroma has the strong earthy scent that is pleasant. The liquor is a strong, deep brown with a slight red tint (5 min steep). The taste has a tangy after taste, I associate with the Kenyan tea. Strong, great for a morning wake up. Certainly, strong...

Raspberry Earl Grey from Shanti Tea

Style: Flavored Black Tea – Region: ?????

80 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Aug. 3rd, 2024

I tried this both hot and iced, and while it is fine hot, it is meant to be served in the summer on ice (with sugar or honey of course, and a squeeze of lemon is good to have as well). It is mostly organic, with only the "natural essences" being not organic. The aroma is floral and fruity, and the flavor emphasizes t...

This is a surprising tea. I never saw one of these before, and until now, I thought only lunatics would attempt to mix tea with coffee. It is a blend of black tea, a few coffee beans, sunflowers, and natural caramel flavoring. I was pleasantly surprised at the rich flavor (when made with milk and sugar of course). T...

This is a very unusual tea - I am a little unsure how I feel about it, so I may amend this review later. It is made with hibiscus, elderberries, and beet root and, strangely enough, they recommend steeping for just 2 minutes. I am guessing that is to prevent the tart hibiscus from stepping in and dominating the flavor...

I enjoyed this tea! I brewed it at 175°F and let it steep several minutes with the mug covered. It did not, thankfully, turn bitter. The second cup’s flavor wasn’t as strong but still had a flavor I could taste. Loose leaf tea is still better, but for a quick bag of tea this is nice.

Here's another tea that has been around a long time, but somehow, I haven't tried nor reviewed it until now! A restaurant in Minnesota served this tea on good water, and I got a second bag to take home and chug as well.

Both times, the impression I got was: this is a pleasantly good, herb-dusted cinnamon infusio...

Another in an assortment of Rituals teas I got from a couple of motels this spring, their chamomile offering made a very nice impression too. With only a very few exceptions, most chamomile teas in my experience differ very little, and when they do, tend to drop off markedly because of lack of freshness. Food-service...

Tropical Black Tea from Upton Tea Imports

May. 28th, 2024

I was very pleasantly surprised by this. I just finished disrespecting another fruit flavored tea from Upton, so I was not expecting much, but this is, as advertised, very fruity and tropical. It is made with sunflower, papaya, maracuja, and pineapple (both natural bits and in the form of flavoring). The aroma is qu...

With a name like mango indica, I don't know if I am supposed to smoke this or drink it (lol). The aroma is nice, strong, and fruity, so I give them credit for that. But the flavor is dominated by - surprise, surprise - Lifesavers candy-type artificial fruit flavor. When will I learn? It is time for me to stop purcha...

This is a pleasant EG, but very much on the lighter side. There is not a lot of bergamot flavor, and the tea is a little thin - but it makes a perfectly enjoyable cup. I would recommend this to someone who likes a mild Earl Grey.

This has a little lavender flavor plus a lot in the potpourri-like aroma, and there is plenty of bergamot too. With lemon or lime and sugar, it has a candied orange peel flavor. I preferred it with milk and sugar, which is a little more subtle. A good change of pace from the usual Earl Grey.

This was my least favorite of the 3 holiday-spice-cookie teas that I got from Culinary. It tastes somewhat like gingerbread, but it could use some more sweetness and spice. I had it with almond milk, and it is possible that had a negative effect on the taste.

Served with milk and sugar, this really tastes just like a Christmas cookie (i.e. a sugar cookie with sprinkles). This is a very successful attempt at duplicating/translating a flavor from a baked item to a tea. It is made with calendula, jasmine, cinnamon, and cocoa, but mostly I taste buttery vanilla cookies (with ...

Baroness Grey from Culinary Teas

70 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 4/5
Jan. 11th, 2024

I will always give a flavored Earl Grey a try; sometimes they are very impressive, sometimes not. It is interesting to see how the teamakers alter the EG formula - I have had them with lavender, chocolate, rose, and vanilla, maybe others too. This Baroness adds lemon, cornflower, and rose along with the bergamot (and...
