Culinary Teas Earl Grey from Culinary Teas
Style: Earl Grey Tea – Region: ?????65 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 2/5 Value: 4/5
Jan. 29th, 2024
This is a pleasant EG, but very much on the lighter side. There is not a lot of bergamot flavor, and the tea is a little thin - but it makes a perfectly enjoyable cup. I would recommend this to someone who likes a mild Earl Grey.

This has a little lavender flavor plus a lot in the potpourri-like aroma, and there is plenty of bergamot too. With lemon or lime and sugar, it has a candied orange peel flavor. I preferred it with milk and sugar, which is a little more subtle. A good change of pace from the usual Earl Grey.

This was my least favorite of the 3 holiday-spice-cookie teas that I got from Culinary. It tastes somewhat like gingerbread, but it could use some more sweetness and spice. I had it with almond milk, and it is possible that had a negative effect on the taste.

Served with milk and sugar, this really tastes just like a Christmas cookie (i.e. a sugar cookie with sprinkles). This is a very successful attempt at duplicating/translating a flavor from a baked item to a tea. It is made with calendula, jasmine, cinnamon, and cocoa, but mostly I taste buttery vanilla cookies (with ...

I will always give a flavored Earl Grey a try; sometimes they are very impressive, sometimes not. It is interesting to see how the teamakers alter the EG formula - I have had them with lavender, chocolate, rose, and vanilla, maybe others too. This Baroness adds lemon, cornflower, and rose along with the bergamot (and...

I am trying out a new tea provider that I saw here on RateTea - Culinary, and so far I am happy with them. I like that they sell tea by the ounce, so that a customer can purchase as much as he likes. This is a well-balanced, holiday spiced tea, with cinnamon, clove, and orange. I didn't taste much of the blackberry ...

Here's a rare flavored black tea where the flavor itself is fairly feeble, and the tea dominates it (not necessarily in a good way, either). Save your money and get an off-brand, food-service tea at a cheap motel, for an experience that is comparable, if not better.
I got this from a gift pack of sampler boxes, wi...

Weird tea, but to me at least, pleasantly so! Connoisseurs of complex-flavored tea should like this, unless those flavors are not favorites. First off, the dry-leaf aroma (in the plastic sack), in-cup smell and taste are remarkably consistent with each other.
The hard part is describing what they are. I can see...

I could write some verbose review of all manner of subtleties, nuances, tones, and flavors here, but:
1) This tea doesn't really have any; it's pleasant but straightforward in its presentation of black tea, orange and cloves, which makes it...
2) A slightly weaker (in taste and aroma) version of Constant Comment.

I made a misstep in purchasing this flavored tea. I always have tea sachets when I go out to eat. Too many restaurants default to Lipton or Tazo. This tea has a strong maple flavor. I certainly recommend to anyone who likes maple, I think this would hit the spot. For my tastes , I don't really care for it. H&S excellen...

Here's a tea that seems to work the gourmet/artisan angle hard, presumably in order to justify the exorbitant cost, and just doesn't live up to the billing. The first thing I noticed about the dry bags (fairly standard-sized pyramid sachets with string and tag) is that the dry product only filled about 1/4–1/5 of it...

A weak but pleasant tea with some sweet apple and spice flavor. It contains several odd, trendy ingredients like monk fruit extract, cinnamon bark oil, and cardomom seed oil. The caffeine content must be pretty low because I fell asleep shortly after drinking a cup.

As with the remainder of this brand of US Foods teas, it's a food-service product not sold directly to the public, but still available in some hotels and motels. I got this at a Wingate by Wyndham motel in Frisco, TX, drinking some there and saving a couple others to try later.

Upton Apricot Honey Rooibos Organic from Upton Tea Imports
Style: Rooibos – Region: ?????65 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 2/5

This is a mellow, apricot-flavored rooibos, with added sunflower petals. It is all organic too, so I guess that means the "natural flavor" is also organic. The aroma is pleasant, and a little reminiscent of breakfast cereal or scented oil. The apricot flavor is certainly noticeable. Why do rooibos teas all have to ...

A mellow pumpkin spice tea, featuring the spices one would expect (e.g. ginger, cinnamon, clove, etc.) I tasted vanilla in the mix, but it does not contain vanilla. Maybe that was coming from sunflower petals or natural flavorings. I am glad they did not overdo the clove or allspice or nutmeg, that is a mistake that...

I actually like this one. It isn't as good as loose-leaf tea would be, but for a tea bag it's nice. I brewed the water to 205°F and let the bag steep under one of those Primula hats for several minutes. Both black tea and peach were present in the strong flavor, but it didn't go bitter. Usually, black tea of fannings ...

The round, tagless tea bags are packed into a sealed mylar pouch, but aren't individually wrapped. The freshly opened pouch smells of bergamot, but isn't as fruity as Williamson's Duchess Grey. The bergamot has an aroma that is present in the Duchess Grey, but otherwise unique to Willamson. It's fruity, but almost has ...

My first in-person conference this decade yielded a few new teas to try and to rate. This was one. As always with such "freebies", value is based on the online and/or local store price.

One-litre pot at home, made from a mixture of leaves of white and green tea, with pieces of caramelised mango and pineapple, as well as bits of cherries, orange, lemon, strawberries and cranberries, and rose buds and petals - an impressive blend, sprinkled with aroma. Not great, but decent and tolerable: that's how I'll characterize this blend. In my relatively limited experience, many food-service black teas (including English Breakfasts) taste rather flat, hollow, sometimes excessively bitter, or often weak, as if they've either been allowed to sit out in the open for 20 years, ...

Earl Grey from Twinings

The dry tea is finely chopped and smells strongly of citrus. There are a few white flecks in the bag that according to the ingredients are probably bergamot peel.
I'm pretty sure that the citrus in Twinings Earl Grey is a blend. The bergamot is pronounced (as it should be in an Earl Grey), but I also taste sweet ora...
African Honeybush, Mandarin and Orange from Twinings
Style: Flavored Honeybush – Region: ?????45 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 2/5 Value: 3/5

The dry bag smells like canned mandarin oranges and the infusion smells like orange soda.
The flavor is slightly more complex. I get some of the toasty woodiness of the honeybush and the flavor's nice, but is weak and a bit stale tasting. It's mediocre all around in that there are higher quality herbals and better-t...

This is a pretty straightforward blend of organic (& kosher) yerba mate, peppermint, and lemon myrtle. The tea is named after the famous Australian way of saying hello, but I don't know what connection exists between this tea and that Pacific nation. It is probably just a reference to the yerba mate. The lemony, herb...
