Wild Berries from Twinings

Style: Fruit (Herbal) Tea – Region: Blend

66 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 4/5
Aug. 5th, 2022

This is Twinings' take on the standard rosehip/hibiscus blend with added flavors. It's fruity, leaning heavily toward strawberry. The hibiscus lends a bit of tartness, but as far as I can tell, the other ingredients are just carriers for the host of added "natural flavors."

The main difference in this one is the pre...

African Honeybush, Mandarin and Orange from Twinings

Style: Flavored Honeybush – Region: ?????

45 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 2/5 Value: 3/5
Aug. 4th, 2022

The dry bag smells like canned mandarin oranges and the infusion smells like orange soda.

The flavor is slightly more complex. I get some of the toasty woodiness of the honeybush and the flavor's nice, but is weak and a bit stale tasting. It's mediocre all around in that there are higher quality herbals and better-t...

Rooibos Tea from Frontier

Style: Rooibos – Region: South Africa

75 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 5/5
Mar. 6th, 2022

I bought a one-pound mylar bag of Frontier rooibos and transferred it to a couple of airtight jars. While recognizably rooibos, the contents of this bag have an extra note of oregano.

I brewed 5g in 16 ounces of boiling water. The oregano aroma is pronounced. It's good, but less nutty and sweet than I'm used to. I d...

Bulk Spearmint Leaf, Cut & Sifted, Organic from Frontier

Style: Spearmint Tea – Region: ?????

95 / 100 Aroma: 10/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 5/5
Feb. 27th, 2022

I love spearmint herbal tea, but it's usually only available as a blend with peppermint. The only pure spearmint that I've been able to find locally in tea bags is Traditional Medicinals and they've been out of stock at the store where I buy them. I normally don't buy bulk because it's often stale, but since I was orde...

Cool Mint from Dunkin Donuts

Style: Herbal Tea – Region: Blend

63 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 2/5
Nov. 21st, 2019

This is a peppermint blend. The peppermint is high quality, isn't weedy tasting, and has a nice menthol finish. There's a floral background flavor that's nice, but I ultimately think that the peppermint is cut with too much filler.

I'd order this again at a Dunkin Donuts if I didn't want something caffeinated, but a...

Steep Rooibos Hibiscus Herbal Tea from Bigelow Tea

Style: Flavored Rooibos – Region: ?????

66 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5
Oct. 16th, 2019

Upon opening the foil pouch, this smells strongly and plainly of rooibos. Adding the water brings a surprisingly strong aroma of orange oil.

The flavors play well together. The orange lends sweetness to the tart hibiscus and rose hips. The nuttiness of the rooibos adds a nice, nutty complexity that isn't often foun...

Nightly Calm (Bedtime Blend) from Twinings

Style: Herbal Tea – Region: Blend

65 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5
Aug. 8th, 2019

The flavor of Nightly Calm is mostly spearmint with a hint of chamomile. The spearmint is nice and doesn't taste grassy or woody. The chamomile is mostly detectable as a faint richness and I don't taste any of the other ingredients.

Pure spearmint is hard to find as a bagged herbal tea and the brands that sell it ar...

Style: Pure Chamomile Tea – Region: ?????

95 / 100 Aroma: 10/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 4/5
Aug. 2nd, 2019

This is good quality chamomile. After opening the heavy paper and foil pouch, the dry teabag has a much richer aroma than most chamomile that I've had. The contents of the teabag looks ground up and entirely flower parts with no stems or leaves.

It brews up a deep gold with a slight greenish hue. The aroma of the li...

Chamomile from TEViVE

Style: Pure Chamomile Tea – Region: ?????

86 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 5/5
Jul. 26th, 2019

This is really good chamomile. Rather than being bitter, it's floral and sweet. The box says that it was packed in Sri Lanka, but doesn't come right out and say where the chamomile is from.

The only problem is the same one that all TEViVE teas have, the teabags have half the contents of other brands. The box of 20 t...

Peppermint from TEViVE

Style: Peppermint Tea – Region: ?????

78 / 100 Aroma: 9/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5
Jun. 5th, 2019

The weird thing about TEViVE teas is that the teabags contain half of the tea or herb or whatever of other brands. The flavored black teas each contain one gram of tea instead of two. The peppermint teabags contain .6 gram while my box of Stash teabags have a full gram. Whenever I make this, I use twice as many teabags...

Style: Hibiscus Tea – Region: ?????

75 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5
Jun. 4th, 2019

Good quality, straightforward hibiscus flower tea. Bulk hibiscus flowers are cheap, but quality can be hit or miss. Though many (or even most) blended herbal teas contain hibiscus, few brands offer unblended hibiscus teabags and the ones that do tend to be overpriced.

Hibiscus is tart and fruity, almost like unsweet...

Camomile, Honey & Vanilla from Twinings

Style: Herbal Tea – Region: Blend

19 / 100 Aroma: 3/10 Flavor: 1/5 Value: 3/5
Apr. 2nd, 2019

Dry, the aroma of vanilla is strong and it smells kind of like eggnog. The camomile lends a woody smell so that the overall impression is a bit like perfumed potpourri.

The brewing tea smells of honey surrounded by sweet pastry and the impression is of honeyed biscuits. The flavor is strongly vanilla, so much so tha...

Roastaroma Herbal Tea from Celestial Seasonings

Style: Coffee Alternative / Substitute – Region: ?????

38 / 100 Aroma: 4/10 Flavor: 2/5 Value: 3/5
Mar. 25th, 2019

I'm not a fan. It smells nice dry, kind of like a cinnamon roll. Brewed, the grain aroma from the barley takes over. I can see what they're going for and the chicory, carob and spices combine to give the passable impression of a mocha coffee, but there's too much dark bread crust for my taste.

I don't think this rea...

Sweet Dreams Herbal Tea from Bigelow Tea

Style: Chamomile Blend – Region: ?????

53 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 3/5
Mar. 14th, 2019

I've had a few knockoffs of this lately, so I figured I'd review the real thing. Sweet Dreams is basically chamomile tea for people that don't like chamomile. When dry, the dominant aroma is spearmint. After steeping, it's a subdued mintiness with a bit of cinnamon and citrus.

The flavor complements the aroma and se...

Rosehip, Hibiscus & Cherry from Ahmad Tea

Style: Herbal Tea – Region: Blend

60 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 3/5
Mar. 13th, 2019

Rosehip and hibiscus is my favorite herbal combination, so when I decided to try Ahmad's herbal teas, this was a natural for me.

The dry tea smells like cherry juice and sawdust. Brewed, the cherry is still prominent, but the rosehips and hibiscus add to the aroma. The cherry flavor adds too much sweetness to the fl...

Chamomile from Benner Tea Co

Mar. 11th, 2019

This is ALDI's recreation of Bigelow Sweet Dreams. The balance is a bit different, but the same flavors are there.

The profile is chamomile and mint. The dominant mint is spearmint rather than peppermint and there's a little bit of sourness from the hibiscus. The menthol coolness appears in the finish along with som...

Peppermint & Lemon from Ahmad Tea

Style: Herbal Tea – Region: Blend

Mar. 7th, 2019

I found a Middle Eastern store that carries a large number of Ahmad's teas and decided to try some of their herbal teas as well. As a brand, Ahmad has shown itself to produce high quality and flavorful products and this tea is no exception. Other than whatever "natural flavor" is included (I'm guessing primarily lemon ...

Misty Mint from Farmer Brothers

Style: Herbal Tea – Region: Blend

45 / 100 Aroma: 5/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 2/5
Feb. 28th, 2019

This blend is really quite bland, especially so for mint. The menthol coolness is there, but it really tastes more herbal than minty. I also taste the "pepper" flavor that the previous reviewer noted, so it wasn't just a fluke or something.

I wouldn't think that there are enough ingredients in this blend to mess up,...

Lively Lemon from Farmer Brothers

Feb. 26th, 2019

This is Farmer Brothers' version of Bigelow's I Love Lemon. The ingredient list is identical.

When dry, the tea smells mostly like peppermint. When steeping, the aroma of lemon oil comes out and is mainly what the tea smells like. The lemon herbs (lemon grass and lemon verbena) are the main flavors, giving the brew ...

Enchanting Moments from Farmer Brothers

Feb. 5th, 2019

I'm stuck in a hotel for few days for a conference, but the bright side is finding a brand of food service teas that I've never tasted.

I decided to make a cup of Enchanting Moments before bed. It's a spot-on mimic of Bigelow's Sweet Dreams herbal tea. The main flavors are chamomile, peppermint and spearmint.

Organic Spearmint from Traditional Medicinals

One of the very few pure spearmint herbal teas available in tea bags.

The tea smells strongly and recognizably of spearmint even before adding water. After steeping, the tea has a pronounced spearmint flavor with just enough herbal notes to avoid tasting like candy.

A second steeping still carries a lot of flavor...

Cranberry Apple Herbal Tea from Bigelow Tea

Style: Herbal Tea – Region: Blend

62 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5
Jan. 10th, 2019

The smell of the dry tea bag is, per the name, cranberry and apple. The flavor of the tea is quite different, though, being predominantly hibiscus and rose hips. After the initial tart rush, the apple comes out. It tastes quite nice, like the apple peel flavor of freeze-dried apple chips. If I try, I can taste a little...

Steep Chamomile Citrus Herbal Tea from Bigelow Tea

Style: Chamomile Blend – Region: Blend

43 / 100 Aroma: 5/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 2/5
Jan. 10th, 2019

The dry tea smells like lemons and the first ingredient is lemongrass, so I was expecting a much more lemony flavor than I'm getting. The flavor is mostly chamomile with a sort of far-off whiff of lemon peel. I'm curious about the lemongrass because the flavor's normally more pronounced when it's an ingredient. It's al...

Even before steeping, the teabag smells pungently of ginger.

The flavor is intense. Spicy ginger and lemongrass are the initial punch and the finish is lime. Some of the spice might be from the cinnamon, but I don't otherwise taste any of the other ingredients.

Drinking this offers a similar flavor to licking fre...
