this tea tastes antique,
like beautiful wooden furniture;
carved aesthetically pleasing,
while suitably functional.

Darjeeling Estate Organic Black Tea from Wegmans

Style: Darjeeling Black Tea – Region: Darjeeling, India

56 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 2/5
Jan. 21st, 2019

Kind of expensive - and it is NOT a first flush (light/sweet) Darjeeling - but it is good. Not a holy grail but a decent variety for Darjeeling - and I love Wegman's, so there's that. Twinings bagged Darjeeling (likely Autumnal Flush) is darker but smoother. This one (Wegman's Darjeeling) comes loose and brews up fu...

Green Tea from Wegmans

Style: Green Tea – Region: ?????

50 / 100 Aroma: 4/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 3/5
Jul. 21st, 2016

Blah. This is another cheapie-green tea that will do in a pinch - or during times of desperation. There are way better teas on the market. Super cheap. Taste moderately vegetal and green - a good bit of astringency. Must be allowed to steep for 3-4 minutes.

Basic. Cheap. Fair.

Green Chai from Wegmans

Style: Chai / Spiced Tea – Region: Blend

63 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 3/5
Dec. 7th, 2015

Green chai is always a tricky one for me; I think of masala chai as being a blending tradition that is inextricably woven into the flavor profile of strong black teas. While traditional masala chai goes well with milk, I think of green tea as not going well with milk at all. I never know what to expect when I try a g...

Sep. 27th, 2014

Presuming this is the same tea as Wegman's Organic Chocolate Chai. ($39.99/LB) This tea looks neat in the package with the huge chunks of chocolate but we will see how the transitions to the steeped product.

As this was steeping, I could smell cinnamon and chocolate throughout my first floor. As I hold my mug cl...

smell is good with hint of lavender...wish it came out stronger though...2 minute steep time for first cup...flavor is VERY light, but seems like it would be good if stronger. I agree with Alex that this tea is better colder rather than hotter...I think the flavor comes out more...or it's the tastebuds. UPDATE: (REST O...

long (6 minute) infusion, smell is lightly fruity...taste isn't quite as I would have expected...hard to place the taste, but something is there that is surprising and isn't quite right...just for a second...orange peel? decent, but nothing great

Tropical Black from Wegmans

black tea with equal parts tropical fruit smell...brewed on the higher end of both leaves and time brewed...taste is more bitter than I was expecting...and less fruity, but fuller flavor. Mostly black tea taste here, with a hint of fruit. (NEXT TIME BREW 5 MINUTES INSTEAD OF 6?)

Very good tea. It has a slightly nutty, very vegetal scent and taste, which I love. The dry aroma is pungent and pleasant in the same way as the brewed tea. It tastes somewhere between a gyokuro and China Green Tips, by Tazo (if I'm remembering those flavors accurately). It hasn't caused me any throat irritation the wa...

5 minute (long end) steep...smell is mostly vegetal with hint of fruit like raspberry...guess that's the peach...as one who favors stronger teas this isn't my "cup of tea"...too light...flavor itself isn't bad..more vegetal than peachy though.....just needs boldness!!

Chocolate Chai from Wegmans

Jun. 10th, 2014

A weak chai blend which was passable, but not particularly chocolatey, slightly overpriced, and which I thought tasted better with milk.

I tried brewing with and without milk, and I thought it was much better with milk, but I recommend a lowish proportion (1tsp / cup) but it still tastes a little weak. Flavor is sm...

Chocolate Chai from Wegmans

Apr. 12th, 2014

I like chai teas, but this is the first chocolate chai that I've tried. The aroma is mostly overpowered with cinnamon. Alex advised me to take out the chocolate chunks because he thought they would ruin the tea brewer, so I did, but I wasn't sure whether I was supposed to. Anyway, I didn't taste the chocolate flavor mu...

The aroma is a happy dance of sweet chocolate, rich spices, and nutty coconut. It reminds me a bit of xocolatl but with coconut and the earthiness of black tea. This tea smells delicious.

The taste is malty and chocolaty with a gentle kick of cinnamon. It moves on from the initial malt and chocolate to rich buttery...

Organic Silver Needle White Tea from Wegmans

Style: Silver Needle – Region: China

63 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 3/5
Dec. 12th, 2013

Silver Needle Tea can be extremely fickle to brew and very subtle in flavor and aroma. It is typically a very mild and smooth tea, and this sample of Wegman's was very much in character.

Brief steepings at about 190 degrees produced a weak aroma, and yet nice flavor of sweet grass with a touch of melon. For a first ...

Houjicha Roasted Green Tea from Wegmans

Nov. 2nd, 2013

Thanks again Alex Z. For the sample of this hojicha! It was a really nice switch from some of the darker/deeper roasted teas of this variety that I had tried recently.

Very good quality tea as can be seen in the dry leaves, and tasted right from the start. The flavors of sweet grass and grain enhance the lightly roa...

A surprisingly good-quality, but expensive hojicha with a light roast, woody aroma, and a sweet flavor.

Dry leaf has a lighter color and a "greener" character to the aroma...only a light roast, and moderate woody aroma, tones of malt or grain, and even a hint of the grassiness characteristic of sencha and other unro...

The aroma of this tea is a wonderfully mild mix of chestnuts, scupernongs, and a touch of citrus. Once brewed the leaves take on a more hay aroma which blends really nicely with the chestnut.

The taste is very mild and delicious! Sweetness with mild vegetal aftertastes. I will have to get my hands on more of this o...

Sep. 13th, 2013

I'm not a huge fan of silver needle; I thought this was above average for its type but I would still strongly prefer other teas, even other white teas, both because of price and characteristics of the cup.

Dry leaf, consisting exclusively of whole, intact tips, has a melony aroma with a slight hint of caramel, but i...

57 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 2/5 Value: 3/5
Aug. 27th, 2013

The first thing that strikes you with this tea is how intense the aroma is. Sadly it is mostly lemongrass and the Rooibos that you smell and none of the spices or other ingredients. Luckily after you brew it the other ingredients start to show up and the rest mellows out.

The flavor is weird, the first cup is extrem...

Hibiscus Herbal Tea from Wegmans

Jul. 10th, 2013

This is among my favorite batches of hibiscus yet, but it's pricey for what it is. I only enjoy hibiscus tea iced, not hot, and I usually brew it weak and drink it straight (unsweetened).

Dry leaf has a very strong aroma of jam or cooked fruit, which I don't like, but I find this aroma diminished upon brewing.
