Tung Ting Oolong Tea from Teapigs
Style: Oolong Tea – Region: Taiwan / Formosa80 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 3/5
Jul. 13th, 2014
Whole-leaf tea in a sachet: this is an excellent rarity, in that it's outstanding green oolong in a tea bag.
I thought this tea was wonderful and among one of the best teas I've tried in a tea bag to date. The leaf is tightly rolled, visible through the sachet, and unfurls when brewing. Although the pyramid shape ...
Special Frost Nilgiri from The Tea Lab
Style: Oolong Tea – Region: Nilgiri, India67 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Jul. 7th, 2014
Purchased from The Tea Lab in Lakewood, Ohio, for the reasonable price of $5 an ounce.
This is one of those rare teas that I was super enthusiastic to try. Oolongs were historically not produced in India, and it's even rarer to find one produced anywhere outside of Darjeeling. This is the first Indian-grown oolong...
High Mountain Oolong Tea from Tea King of China (Starway)
Style: Oolong Tea – Region: Anxi, Fujian, China53 / 100 Aroma: 5/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 3/5
Feb. 19th, 2014
A smooth, but ultimately mediocre oolong. Very dark, not terribly bitter, but also very uninteresting. Most Chinese restaurants have tea with more of an interesting flavor and aroma.
Dry leaf has a mild, mellow aroma. Upon brewing, the roasted aroma comes out more.
The brewed cup has an oily film on top of it....
Phoenix Mountain Dancong from Octavia Tea
Style: Dancong Oolong – Region: Guangdong, China77 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5
Feb. 6th, 2014
A dark, spicy, evolving dancong that resembled a black tea more than any other oolong I've tried. It would be top-notch, except that the flavor gave out after 2 steepings.
This is the second Dancong I've sampled from Octavia recently. I was curious if it would be similar to the first--but it's completely different...
Dong Ding Oolong Tea from Eco-Cha
Style: Oolong Tea – Region: Nantou, Taiwan90 / 100 Aroma: 10/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Feb. 3rd, 2014
This tea just smells so freaking good. It is potent and tends to brew up strong, very roasty, so I recommend going easy on the leaf and/or the steeping time.
The cup is rich and dark cup, and the aroma is very complex, especially if sipping it gradually. Smells like roasted vegetables with a hint of the spent gunp...
Jin Xuan Milk Oolong from Octavia Tea
Style: Milky Oolong – Region: Taiwan / Formosa77 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Jan. 27th, 2014
A relatively mild, easy-to-brew oolong with a milky fragrance and lemony tang.
I recently tried a Jin Xuan oolong from the company Eco-Cha, and comparing it with this one was like night and day, as much as you can get with a green oolong. While that one was buttery, this tea was milky.
The dry leaf is very tight...
Eight Immortals Dancong from Octavia Tea
Style: Dancong Oolong – Region: China83 / 100 Aroma: 9/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 5/5
Jan. 23rd, 2014
An immensely complex tea that retains its nuances through many infusions. I love it!
The dry leaf doesn't quite betray the complexity...it has a mild aroma, slightly toasty but mostly hiding the explosion of fragrances that happens when steeping this tea in water.
Upon brewing, the aroma suggests apple, orange, ...
Tsui Yu Jade Oolong Tea from Eco-Cha
Style: Oolong Tea – Region: Nantou, Taiwan97 / 100 Aroma: 10/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 5/5
Jan. 22nd, 2014
I loved this tea...it is extremely green and light for an oolong, and has a distinctive "tropical greenhouse" aroma. A little picky about brewing, but worth it because the results were pretty astounding when I figured out how to brew it to my liking.
Intensely floral and vegetal, like the inside of a greenhouse fil...
(Shan Lin Xi) High Mountain Concubine Oolong Tea from Eco-Cha
Style: High Mountain Oolong – Region: Nantou, Taiwan90 / 100 Aroma: 10/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Jan. 16th, 2014
A roasted tea with a mellow, warm, homey quality. I thought this an exceptional tea, definitely my favorite one sampled from Eco-Cha, but ranking among my favorite oolongs ever sampled.
The dry leaf smells of rich roast, with a background of honey-like qualities.
Upon brewing it becomes much more complex. Aroma...
Jin Xuan Oolong Tea from Eco-Cha
Style: Milky Oolong – Region: Nantou, Taiwan63 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 2/5
Jan. 14th, 2014
A buttery-smooth oolong that was pleasing, but I thought a bit boring. I'm not familiar with Jin Xuan (other than reading about it), so it may be that I'm just not a fan of this varietal.
Dry leaf is not very aromatic, but the brewed cup is more so.
Buttery and vegetably, with a smooth, silky texture. The aroma...
Organic High Mountain Oolong Tea from Eco-Cha
Style: High Mountain Oolong – Region: Nantou, Taiwan77 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 3/5
Jan. 9th, 2014
A rich and interesting oolong, different from anything I've tried before. Very pleasing.
Dry leaf is loosely packed, takes up a lot of space, and has a pleasant and multifaceted smell, floral but with a light roast.
The aroma on this is similar to a light-to-medium roast, but the flavor is surprisingly bold. Fl...
Shan Lin Xi High Mountain Oolong Tea from Eco-Cha
Style: High Mountain Oolong – Region: Nantou, Taiwan87 / 100 Aroma: 10/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 4/5
Jan. 3rd, 2014
I loved this one, and it seems to grow on me each time I drink it. It is rich and bold any way I make it.
The leaf has a rich, warming aroma, not very roasted but more homey.
I love the way this tea tastes when brewed in a mug. It's very rich and actually quite bitter. There's a hint of cinnamon in the aroma, ...
WuYi Mtn. Oolong Tea (Wuyi Oolong) from Foojoy
Style: Oolong Tea – Region: Wuyi, Fujian, China57 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 2/5 Value: 3/5
Dec. 26th, 2013
Brewed from a paper teabag stored for some time in the cupboard at my parents' house. It was surprisingly fresh and aromatic. Smells nice, but the flavor was more bitter than I like.
The tea bag contains fairly large, broken pieces of leaf, larger than in most tea bags, but smaller than in most high-end pyramid sa...
Organic Oolong Tea from Ten Ren Tea
Style: Oolong Tea – Region: ?????73 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 5/5
Dec. 16th, 2013
I'm reviewing this tea from memory; it has since been discontinued, but I drank it regularly for some time, back before I had created RateTea, so I have a good sense of it.
Of all the teas I've sampled (from Ten Ren or any other company) it seemed most similar to Ten Ren's Ti Kuan Yin in tea bags--although it was no...
Nonpareil Taiwan DaYuLing High Mountain Cha Wang Oolong Tea from TeaVivre
Style: Oolong Tea – Region: Taichung, Taiwan90 / 100 Aroma: 9/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 4/5
Dec. 10th, 2013
My first time sampling Da Yu Ling, this was unexpectedly complex and interesting. It had a gingerbread and molasses quality that I've never before encountered in an oolong.
Dry leaf has a strong floral fragrance, similar to other green oolongs from Taiwan. Upon brewing though, this tea becomes much more interestin...
Oolong Tea from Choice Organic Teas
Style: Oolong Tea – Region: ?????53 / 100 Aroma: 4/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 2/5
Dec. 9th, 2013
A sealed sample pack from the Philadelphia Coffee and Tea Festival.
Tea bag is aromaless, and the brewed cup has almost no discernable aroma until I sip it, at which point the aroma is extremely mild. Much more flavorful than aromatic though. The aroma I do notice is a faint tone of rice, with perhaps some suggest...
Nonpareil Taiwan Li Shan Oolong Tea from TeaVivre
Style: Oolong Tea – Region: Taichung, Taiwan97 / 100 Aroma: 10/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 4/5
Nov. 19th, 2013
This tea was top-notch and was definitely the strongest of the Taiwanese oolongs I've tried yet from TeaVivre, both in aroma and flavor. Very bold flavor, yet while having a clear liquor, smooth mouthfeel, and refined floral fragrance, without any off qualities.
Dry leaf is tightly rolled and looks dark green with ...
Superfine Taiwan Qing Xiang Dong Ding Oolong Tea from TeaVivre
Style: Oolong Tea – Region: Taiwan / Formosa90 / 100 Aroma: 9/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 4/5
Nov. 12th, 2013
A very green (modern green style) oolong of very good quality! TeaVivre informes me that "Qing Xiang" means the tea is unroasted; I've seen this term refer to the floral fragrance of a green oolong--and this tea definitely delivers on such a claim. Yet another top-quality tea from TeaVivre!
The dry leaf is very gr...
Superfine Taiwan Ali Shan Oolong Tea from TeaVivre
Style: Oolong Tea – Region: Taiwan / Formosa77 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5
Oct. 18th, 2013
I enjoyed this oolong but, in contrast to the Dong Ding I recently sampled from TeaVivre, it did not jump out at me as outstanding quality, and it was perhaps a bit too smooth or mild for my tastes. I also found it was comparable in overall character to other examples of Ali Shan oolong that I've gotten for a much low...

Style: Oolong Tea – Region: Nantou, Taiwan90 / 100 Aroma: 9/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 4/5
Oct. 9th, 2013
Definitely among the best oolongs I've sampled. Exceedingly pleasant, easy to brew and drink, and I'd imagine it would also be being pretty accessible.
This tea is marked as "moderately roasted"; it seems to tend slightly toward the greener side., close to what I've seen called a "traditional green" oolong, or a li...
Best Oolong Tea from Tradition
Style: High Mountain Oolong – Region: Taiwan / Formosa83 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 5/5
Sep. 12th, 2013
The best oolong I've had in a tea bag; nothing else comes close. Definitely up there with the top teas I've ever sampled from a tea bag.
Even in the bag, this smells like high-quality green oolong. Very similar to the two loose-leaf. The tea bag is fairly roomy, giving the leaf quite a lot of room to expand, and ...
Taiwan Monkey Picked (Ma Liu Mie) Tie Guan Yin Oolong Tea from TeaVivre
Style: Tie Guan Yin – Region: Taiwan / Formosa77 / 100 Aroma: 9/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Jun. 7th, 2013
An old review that I had planned on posting and that somehow slipped through the cracks.
The dry leaf of this tea was not very aromatic, which was a first for me among teas from this company, which normally are intensely fragrant, immediately when opening them. The tightly-rolled, dark colored leaves had only a fai...
Shui Xian Oolong Tea from Arbor Teas
Style: Shui Hsien Oolong – Region: Fujian, China63 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 3/5
Jun. 7th, 2013
Very dark brown leaf, rather broken up, smells mainly of roast when dry.
Produces a surprisingly clear, almost-greenish infusion.
Aroma complex, but only when I pay attention to it deliberately; it's not attention-getting. This tea seemed forgettable if I drank it casually, but had a lot going on when I focused ...
Makaibari Estate Oolong Tea from Arbor Teas
Style: Darjeeling Oolong – Region: Darjeeling, India100 / 100 Aroma: 10/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 5/5
Jun. 4th, 2013
This is one weird but I love it!
This is my favorite Darjeeling oolong yet...but it really smells and tastes more like first flush (black tea) to me, but has a buttery mouthfeel like a good Taiwanese jade oolong.
Dry leaf is mostly broken, into pieces of different sizes, and has a strong aroma, suggestive of wint...
Superfine Anxi Qing Xiang TieGuanYin Oolong Tea from TeaVivre
Style: Tie Guan Yin – Region: Anxi, Fujian, China97 / 100 Aroma: 10/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 5/5
May. 9th, 2013
A very green oolong with a strong and lasting orchid aroma. Among my favorite green oolongs ever sampled.
A few years ago, when I knew considerably less about tea, someone brought a little packet of tea back from China and gave it to my mother as a gift. It was unbranded, marked only with "Guan Yin Wang", and had ...
