Canada 150 Blend Tea Bags from Murchie's Tea & Coffee Ltd
Style: Miscellaneous Tea-only Blend – Region: Blend74 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 5/5
Mar. 11th, 2021
Here's a new blend style for me: green, black and oolong. As the name indicates, Murchie's first produced this to commemorate Canada's 150th anniversary, and it apparently gained enough of a following to keep going as a sale offering. Fittingly, it also is faintly maple flavored—much less so than any of Murchie's ...

Feb. 19th, 2021
Have you ever walked into the lobby of a tire shop, and noted its distinctive aroma of freshly manufactured tire rubber? That was my immediate impression of the taste/scent blend upon drinking this tea, and I can't shake it. It's as if someone liquefied that air in a tire store, and stirred it into a tea. The websit...

Style: Flavored Black Tea – Region: ?????72 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5
Feb. 13th, 2021
One of my co-workers has been quaffing this tea with devoted fervor for a few months since I introduced him to drinking any tea. In turn, he gave me some of this. Knowing how much Harney tea tins cost even at Target, I wouldn't have bought this on my own, but it's not bad to try for free. I based the value on the kn...

Style: Black Tea – Region: Blend87 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 5/5
Jan. 14th, 2021
Prince Charles isn't among most heavily advertised teas in the large assortment Murchie's carries, but maybe it should be. It was, according to the website, "originally blended in 1981 to commemorate the Royal Wedding of Charles and Diana." Good thing this tea long outlasted that marriage!
The dry bag gave a sharp...
Earl Grey Decaf Tea Bags from Murchie's Tea & Coffee Ltd
Style: Earl Grey Tea – Region: Blend69 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Jan. 8th, 2021
My wife is trying to cut back caffeine intake, and had me include this offering in the latest virtual "Murchie's run" that we do a time or two per year. And being a big fan of both happy marriages and the $CAD---->$USD exchange rates the last few years, I did not object.
Now that I've tried the tea, I'm glad that I...
Earl Grey Decaffeinated Black Tea from Bigelow Tea
Style: Earl Grey Tea – Region: Blend51 / 100 Aroma: 5/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 3/5
Dec. 7th, 2020
Having not been either impressed nor repulsed by Bigelow's regular Earl Grey, and having not gotten any new teas to review for some months, and having to work down a stockpile of reviewed teas, I finally raided my wife's cache of the decaf version to try it for a report here. I've missed RateTea more than I've missed ...

Caveat: ignore my lofty rating if you don't like coconut, or coconut-flavored teas. Then again, those repulsed by coconut are unlikely to purchase this product anyway. :-)
Since I do enjoy coconut a great deal, on its own and as an attachment to many things from tea to shrimp to candy and cake...wow. Of all the ...
Waterfront Blend from Murchie's Tea & Coffee Ltd
Style: Green and Black Tea Blend – Region: Blend88 / 100 Aroma: 10/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 5/5
Sep. 5th, 2020
This product is named after Vancouver's Waterfront Hotel, which commissioned Murchie's to produce it for tea service there starting in the 1990s. Buoyed by the success Murchie's has had with their somewhat similar, jasmine-flavored #10 Blend, over many decades of production in general, and in my mouth in particular, I...

This is the first tea review I can blame or credit directly to the ongoing coronavirus. We were having Sprouts groceries plucked from within and brought curbside—an activity not undertaken before this pandemic—and the Instacart shopper either mistakenly got "Mint Magic" instead of the peppermint tea I ordere...

Both the loose and bagged versions of this blend have gone down my gullet, and I honestly can't tell much (if any) difference, at least within a reasonably narrow batch-to-batch margin of error. That said, I'll base this review mainly on what I've got right now, which is bags from a sampler pack.
The dry-bag (and ...
Canadian Breakfast Tea Bags from Murchie's Tea & Coffee Ltd
Style: Flavored Black Tea – Region: Blend68 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 4/5
Aug. 10th, 2020
What is a Canadian Breakfast tea? A Ceylon-Keemun blend...flavored with maple, of course! In the dry bag, it smells nearly as "mapley" as their "Maple Tea"—a very strongly maple-infused blend I've consumed a lot, and reviewed already. Since I'm a big fan of that flavor, it was a positive review. :-)

Linden Flower (Tila) from Carmencita
Style: Linden Tea – Region: ?????66 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Aug. 9th, 2020
I first had some of this drink when living in Miami almost 30 years ago, at a Salvadoran restaurant, without having tried linden tea of any sort before. I recalled enjoying it with pupusas, so another time I was there, shortly before joining RateTea, I saw a packet of teabags at Publix and brought it back, and (though...

Jul. 18th, 2020
I was a little uncertain what to expect here, since Murchie's teas generally are very good to excellent, but their bagged "Traditional Chai" offering was somewhat flat and disappointing. No worries..."Bombay Chai" lives up to the name, and is a worthy addition to the tea shelf on your pantry, especially if you like yo...

Jul. 14th, 2020
It's hard to rate this product because it doesn't sit still, even though it has just three stated ingredients: rooibos, vanilla flavoring, and vanilla bean. The quality and flavor seemed to vary a lot over time, within a given cup. Overall, it's a decent representative of flavored rooibos, and at times presents itse...

Taylor's has/had a "Pure Assam". Does the absence of that adjective here make this one "impure" by default? :-)
Seriously, I don't know if "Assam Tea" is the same as "Pure Assam", repackaged and rebranded, or a parallel offering. It has been a few years since I tried and reviewed "Pure Assam", so I can't compare...
Sleepytime Throat Tamer™ Wellness Tea from Celestial Seasonings
Style: Wellness Tea / Medicinal Tea – Region: ?????79 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 4/5
May. 16th, 2020
Strangely, I found this much more aromatic, flavorful and overall pleasant to drink than the seemingly similar "just" Sleepytime. That's probably because it has more stuff that is flavorful and aromatic on the ingredients list.
The common components between the two blends are chamomile, spearmint and lemongrass, ...
Organic Rose Hips with Hibiscus from Traditional Medicinals
Style: Herbal Tea – Region: ?????63 / 100 Aroma: 4/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Apr. 7th, 2020
As teas from outfits like Traditional Medicinals go, this one is remarkably simple. It has just these two basic ingredients, rose hips and hibiscus, that form the core of countless fruit- and berry-flavored herbal blends offered by many companies.
As a combination, it seems very well-balanced. There's not much dr...
Green Tea from Lipton Tea
Style: Green Tea – Region: ?????50 / 100 Aroma: 4/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 4/5
Mar. 22nd, 2020
This is the last of a set of food-service Liptons I got from a cafeteria, an individually wrapped bag that I finally have gotten around to trying and rating a couple months later.
The dry bag had little aroma, which is nothing new for most mass-produced or food-service green teas I've tried. The wet bag has a bit o...
Chai Green Tea from Stash Tea
Style: Chai / Spiced Tea – Region: Blend53 / 100 Aroma: 5/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 3/5
Mar. 9th, 2020
Since I like chais a lot in general, I thought I'd try this one on for fun and variety, after seeing it deeply discounted at a Sprouts. Maybe there's a good reason it was discounted a lot.
The dry-bag aroma is all cinnamon, and quite strongly so. The wet-bag aroma was almost all cinnamon, not quite as strong, but ...
Enticing Chai (Spiced Chai Flavored Black Tea) from Lipton Tea
Style: Chai / Spiced Tea – Region: ?????57 / 100 Aroma: 4/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Feb. 18th, 2020
In an apparent ode to Back to the Future, Lipton, or at least its corporate boss Unilever, is again referring to this simply as, "Spiced Chai", as of Feb. 2020. Whether this is a renaming of their chai just for food-service purposes, or for keeps across the brand, remains to be seen. I uploaded a photo of the latest ...

Feb. 17th, 2020
Similarly to my review of TJ's Darjeeling white tea, I hope this isn't very representative of Darjeeling greens; for it lacks aroma and flavor. The dry-bag aroma is basically nil, with the in-cup scent only very faint. Only the wet bag has something resembling a smell I would associate with green tea, and it's still ...

Here's another Lipton brand that has been "unretired" as of Feb. 2020. It is available under different-looking packaging in several online stores, as well as via Unilever's food-service page (where I got the photo to be uploaded shortly). Now that I've tried a few of these Lipton herbal and flavored black teas from a...

Despite having a wide spectrum of experiences with TJ's teas (from excellent to revolting...but mostly good), I somehow thought this would be a cheap knockoff and not very high quality. Somewhat surprisingly, while not the best bagged green I've had (that would be an unbranded tea my daughter brought back from Japan)...

I bring news! Whether it's good news or not is up to the reader. This tea, as a brand with the same name, is not retired after all, as of Feb. 2020. Instead, it has found its way to the food-service division of Unilever, Lipton's corporate overlord. I'll upload a photo of its newest packaging separately. I was abl...

This was my first Darjeeling white tea, and it's about as impressive as sitting through an hour-long staff meeting with a well-advertised, nicely dressed, but ultimately monotonic guest speaker droning on about an uninteresting subject.
At first, I was intrigued. The best part of the experience was the dry-bag ar...
