Staatsburgh Blend from Harney and Sons

Style: Flavored Black Tea – Region: ?????

80 / 100 Aroma: 9/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 4/5
Dec. 16th, 2018

I found this on sale at the Mills Mansion / Staatsburgh State Historic Site in Rhinebeck, NY, which is the only place you can buy it. It appears to have an inexpensive Chinese black tea base, which is flavored with apricot, red cornflowers, hazelnut, nutmeg, and something called "cinnamon spice." This is floral and s...

Huang Ya Imperial Yellow Tea from Upton Tea Imports

Style: Huangya – Region: China

Yellow tea! I was turned on by the possibility of trying a new variety of tea, one that I had not heard of before. But this was nothing groundbreaking - it seemed to fall in between the green and oolong styles, leaning toward oolong. It was all right, but there were no revelations here. Overpriced imo.

55 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 2/5 Value: 3/5

Chinese sencha tea made with ginseng, ginger, and pineapple. The description makes it seem exotic and potent, but it is fairly mild and not really very exciting.

75 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 4/5

Mine was called Breakfast Blend (not Breakfast Fannings.) This is a solid breakfast tea, with some metallic tannins and a cereal-like taste. Very finely ground, and similar to traditional Irish and English breakfast teas.

China Jasmine Green Tea from Upton Tea Imports

Style: Jasmine Tea – Region: China

60 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 2/5 Value: 4/5
Apr. 21st, 2018

Here is a mediocre jasmine tea from Upton, which does offer some better ones. The base tea is not very interesting, and the flower aspect is not the best. It is still drinkable tho, and it does smell nice. It is called "China Jasmine" on the website but the label reads "Jasmine Green Tea." Offered at a low price.

Extra Bergamot English Earl Grey from Upton Tea Imports

Style: Earl Grey Tea – Region: Blend

90 / 100 Aroma: 10/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 5/5
Apr. 20th, 2018

This has a little more bergamot than your average earl grey - it has more heft and orange taste - but it is not overwhelming, and is within the normal range for an EG. I find this to be a very good tea, nice with milk and sugar or lemon and sugar (which is my favorite way to take EG), and possessing a pleasant aroma....

It is sencha with toasted brown rice - I wonder who thought that up? This provides a little heft and cracker-like flavor to this green tea. I'm rating it in 2018, but I liked it a little more in some prior years.

I have purchased this a number of times, and the quality varies from year to year. This 2018 batch is not the best, but it is still a pleasant green tea, with a light vegetal flavor. The price has steadily increased over the years.

80 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 5/5
Apr. 11th, 2018

Lots of rose flavor and aroma mixed with a Chinese black tea makes for a lovely cup! It doesn't taste artificial at all - I'm guessing the rose effect is coming from real roses. It is pretty mild and goes down easily. The price ($5 for 100 grams in 2018) is fantastic, given the quality.

Very tasty, with a light, green smokiness blending with the sweet, floral flavor. Clearly an above average jasmine tea.

65 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 1/5 Value: 4/5
Apr. 10th, 2018

The picture is a little deceptive - it appears to be packed with dried blueberries, but so far I haven't seen any. It is a bland green tea with blueberry flavoring, which makes it taste like chewing gum. This would probably be OK in the summer, maybe on ice.

This is one of their cheaper teas, but for me it hits the spot. There is a good amount of spearmint and it blends well with the tea that is used. Make sure to add sugar and not oversteep, and you will have a delicious cup. It is a fine choice when a low caffeine tea is called for.
