Black Tea from Lipton Tea

Style: Black Tea – Region: ?????

33 / 100 Aroma: 3/10 Flavor: 2/5 Value: 3/5
Mar. 24th, 2010

This tea is low-grade swill. It's popular only because of advertising and price, not because of taste. It delivers an artificial, generic tea flavor. Even if someone wants an orange and black pekoe tea Red Rose, Tetley, and/or Bromley are arguably slightly better but definitely a better buy. Given a choice between ...

Simple, but as the title suggests, classic. It goes with almost anything and it's perfect for when you just want (black) tea without the extras

Prince of Wales from Twinings

Style: Black Tea – Region: China

53 / 100 Aroma: 5/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Mar. 22nd, 2010

Fairly light overall, especially compared to Twinings' other black teas. There's some complexity in the aroma, in my opinion, more than their other black teas with the exception of their Ceylon (my favorite). Smooth...less astringency or bitterness. I find you can steep this one a little longer without it becoming t...

Luxury Blend Tea from Chai Bora

Style: Black Tea – Region: Tanzania

57 / 100 Aroma: 5/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 4/5
Mar. 19th, 2010

I was pleasantly surprised with this teabag; it's just fannings/dust and doesn't look like much, but even the dry teabag is pleasantly aromatic. The name surprised me--I was expecting a kind of spiced tea but then I realized that "Chai Bora" is just the brand name. And "chai" just means tea after all!

The brewed t...

67 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 4/5
Mar. 10th, 2010

This tea's complexity surprised me! Unusually vegetal for a black tea, with a hint of savory qualities. Dark in color, and full-bodied, but delicate. Fairly bitter, especially in the aftertaste...moderately tannic and astringent.

The aroma of this tea would place it on par with some of the better single-estate Da...

Mar. 9th, 2010

There is just something about red rose that makes it the best black iced tea. It seems to not ever go flat tasting even after hanging in the fridge a few days. Everyone raves about my iced tea, and I just laugh. It's such a bargain.

This tea is incredibly resilient, it is hard to over brew! While it's fragrance is fair-good it tastes flat.

An honest mountain Ceylon with clean flavor and aroma. Slightly weak brew, however.

(The Keurig K-Cup version of this Bigelow tea is better than the bag.)

220 Assam Malty FBOP from SpecialTeas

Style: Assam – Region: Assam, India

60 / 100 Aroma: 4/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Mar. 9th, 2010

My favorite of the low priced Assam from special tea's. Very rich in flavor, though if you are a lover of malty Assam you will find this tea to be lacking a truly strong malty-ness. If you are like me then I suggest Yamamotoyama's orange pekoe.

Overall a good tea.

not a typical malty assam, smooth and mild. Aroma and flavor are lacking, but for the price a great bargain.

Smooth and silky on the tongue, with a malty aftertaste that Irish breakfasts are known for, but less malty than most. Regarding value, worth twice the price paid Overall a great value, rich flavor, silky smooth mouth feel.

Well....it tastes like it tastes. I could probably ID this tea blindfolded. It reminds me oddly of yerba mate and never brews very strong. Aroma is pretty much nil. I only really drink this tea at hotels.

Feb. 25th, 2010

This is my everyday breakfast tea. Deeper and darker colored than an English breakfast, this very full-bodied black tea (with a splash of milk) is one of the most satisfying teas I've ever had. Not elegant, but full throttle flavors and finish. I buy it 2# at a time for $32. UPDATE: Special Teas has closed its doors. O...

Style: Darjeeling Black Tea – Region: Darjeeling, India

88 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 5/5
Feb. 6th, 2010

This seemingly straightforward Darjeeling has quickly become one of my favorite everyday teas. Although "typical" in many respects, it is surprisingly complex...the aroma has many different aspects to it: a fruitiness, a hint of a rice-like quality, some floral tones, a bit of spice, a suggestion of fall leaves, and s...

70 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 5/5
Feb. 3rd, 2010

This is the first broken-leaf Ceylon from Upton that has been drinkable to me, and I'm surprised to find it completely lacking in the harshness that the other ones I've tried have had.

The aroma is totally unlike any black tea I have tried...it reminds me of rice and rice pastries. I like Upton's description "brigh...

Ahmad is one of my favourite tea brands. It has never let me down. Their Darjeeling is no exception; difficult as it is to brew a perfect Darjeeling, they have found the right proportion for a cup.

67 / 100 Aroma: 5/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 4/5
Jan. 29th, 2010

Strong but without an edge; malty, full-bodied, but not overly tannic. The dry leaf has a pleasantly strong vegetal aroma, unusual for a black tea, but I was disappointed to find little of this characteristic come through in the brewed cup.

Not the most interesting tea, perhaps, but a very enjoyable tea to drink, m...

A pleasantly mellow tea, unlike anything else I've tried before. Definitely noticeable as a Vietnamese tea; it's interesting how both their black and green teas share certain characteristics in common.

Very smooth, little bitterness, even when steeped for a long time. I find a hint of lemon in the aroma, which is ...
