Thurbo Estate TGBOP Cl/Tip First Flush (DJ-25) from Upton Tea Imports
Style: Darjeeling First Flush – Region: Darjeeling, India67 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5

This was an interesting tea right from the first sip. Although there are some of the typical aromas characteristic of Darjeeling first flush, the overall character is somewhat different from any other teas I have had before.
Greener character, and aroma is more like Indian green teas than black teas: herbaceous ton...
Darjeeling Estate Organic Black Tea from Wegmans
Style: Darjeeling Black Tea – Region: Darjeeling, India60 / 100 Aroma: 5/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 3/5

I suspect this is from Makaibari estate, not just because of the fair trade and organic certification, but because it bears the familiar aroma of black teas from that garden.
This particular batch is exceptionally fruity, one of the frutiest Darjeelings I've tried yet. There is an intense grape aroma, so sweet and ...

Generous on the leaf--the teabag reads 2.5 grams, an amount similar to what I'd use for one cup when using loose-leaf tea, and it makes me realize how much a lot of companies skimp on the leaf.
This is a broken-leaf Darjeeling, with smallish pieces of leaf . The leaf is highly heterogeneous in color: many of the le...

I listed value as only a 3 because you either have to order $60 worth of tea for free shipping or pay a very large shipping cost directly from India. Aside from that, this is such a good tea. It is the first one I have had from Darjeeling that smells like toasted peanuts. It tastes nutty and earthy and toasty. Not a...

My wife's favorite tea. It is indeed fruity and floral. I'm still developing my tea tastebuds but this one is very tasty. It does have a bit of astringency in the aftertaste. Better than other Darjeelings I've tried.

The liquor has a beautiful floral aroma with that sweet darjeeling muscatel scent. In taste, it is not as delicate as a first flush. It is bold, but without much of the floral notes that 2nd flushes usually have. It does have the soft mouthfeel described by the vendor, but I did not detect any woody notes. The tea is a...

I find this tea muscular but not particularly illuminating. Do not oversteep. Do not expect any kind of tea revelation, either. Passable.

The tea produces a nice golden cup. It has a strong astringent taste, and of course the muscatel that I've grown to love from Darjeelings. While it has the distinctive Darjeeling aroma, it does not have any delicate floral notes. the leaves are nice and large, and you don't need much to get a dark full bodied cup. The ...

Each tea bag is a 'pyrmaid infuser'. It is a good way to let the tea breathe a little bit, and spread out. The leaves have a lovely sweet floral scent. I steeped the tea for the 4 minutes recommended on the box. The tea has a faint floral fragrance, along with a hint of that Darjeeling muscatel. These aromas translate...

On its own, this is a kind of ho-hum tea, tastingkind of woody and over-roasted, without any grapiness to speak of. However, I added some cream to it and that rounded out all the rough edges and made it sweeter and good enough to have 3 cups in a row.

You need to treat this one as a green and only brew it for 2 minutes. I was not impressed with it hot, but as a cold-brewed tea in the fridge for 5 hours, it was lovely, with a full mouth feel and a somewhat nutty, malty flavor. Still, nothing distict about it and I won't get it again. I find many first flush Darjee...

I never cease to be amazed by what comes out of Makaibari estate.
The dry brownish leaves with a few greener leaves mixed in turn noticeably greener upon brewing--most of them become the color of a green tea, with a few olive-colored ones mixed in. The cup is a deep golden hue, no darker than some green teas.

For someone who does not enjoy first flush darjeeling teas, this was very impressive! On the company description it tells about a punchy astringency, but I did not find it in the brew, which is one of the attributes I loved! For a Darjeeling fan, I think it offers something new. For a person just delving into the world...

I tried this in a Peet's in the Philadelphia airport. I let it brew 2 minutes. Peet's said they normally include two teabags but I only used one and saved the other for later--and I'm glad because this tea would have been far too strong.
This is unusually strong for a Darjeeling, but this could just be due to a ge...
Darjeeling from Twinings
Style: Darjeeling Black Tea – Region: Darjeeling, India53 / 100 Aroma: 3/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 3/5

This tea is fully decent - I'd say it's better than what most of Twinings puts out. That said, it's not a great tea. The smell is blah. The tea tastes great at the first sip, but then lingers with a bit of cardboard. I think a little bit of lemon or mint would fix that though.

This tea smells simply luscious - it's scent has a mossy, earthy quality, with some fruity hints on top. It tastes lovely iced - it starts out with a deep flavor, and then has a sweet aftertaste that lingers a bit. Even though I used a good amount of tea to brew this, the flavor is still light.

this seems like a well-balanced 2nd flush darjeeling. i imagine that this is basically what an archetypical 2nd flush tea should be. some muskiness, nuttiness, bitterness, and astringency. no single element is really overwhelming.
good tea

the musky flavor and aroma does come out when brewed. a somewhat nutty flavor. a fairly well balanced second-flush darjeeling at a pretty good value. i drink this one regularly.

Fruity, even for a Darjeeling, and mellow, except for some very strong objectionable qualities that emerge. There's a harshness in the aroma that I could do without...the aftertaste is also very tannic even though at first this tea tastes smooth. Astringent for a Darjeeling.
Disappointing. Definitely recognizable...
