Mtn High Chai from Two Leaves and a Bud
Style: Chai / Spiced Tea – Region: Assam, India93 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 5/5
Sep. 18th, 2010
This is a delightful chai, perfect for waking up too late for breakfast tea, but still too early for afternoon tea. It is not dominated by cinnamon, which is a nice change.
It suggests steeping for 3 minutes, but the longer it steeps the richer the flavor gets (it's been in my cup for the past 30 minutes). I'm si...
Afternoon Blend Black Tea from Arbor Teas
Style: Black Tea – Region: India67 / 100 Aroma: 3/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Sep. 16th, 2010
This is a pleasantly malty tea, mild without being too weak and strong without being too astringent. This is one of the few teas that can be served black or with cream and sugar without drastically weakening its flavor. This tea goes well with pastries or a light lunch.

Style: Flavored White Tea – Region: Blend60 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 3/5
Sep. 10th, 2010
Strong bergamot aroma, with a much more citrusy quality than a typical Earl Grey. The aroma is almost lemony and suggests sweetness. Flavor is delicate and lightly sweet. The white tea presence is weaker but is still present. The white tea has a lighter character. This was not what I was expecting, but is very ple...

Style: English Breakfast – Region: Blend67 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Sep. 7th, 2010
This is a classic English Breakfast tea. Medium strength, full-bodied, good black tea aroma with some complexity. There's some earthiness and a pleasant hint of floral black tea tones. Moderately bitter and fairly astringent.
I tried brewing this with different brewing lengths and found no advantage to a longer s...
Golden Monkey from Adagio Teas
Style: Golden Monkey – Region: Fujian, China83 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 3/5
Sep. 5th, 2010
This is one of my overall favorite teas. Beautiful color, although it does usually tend to get a little frothy around the edges as its brewing for some reason (have not seen this happen with any other teas.) Its a milder black tea that's great any time of day. Its a little on the expensive side but worth it in my op...

Style: Herbal Tea – Region: Bangladesh27 / 100 Aroma: 2/10 Flavor: 1/5 Value: 2/5
Sep. 2nd, 2010
This is not pure ginger root but rather, a blend of ginger and Vasaka leaf.
I find this herbal tea to be very strongly bitter...I'm almost positive it's from the Vasaka leaf. The bitterness is overpowering. There's not much aroma, just a little from the ginger, but it's the weaker aroma of powdered dry ginger, not...
Fair Trade True Green Tea from Wild Harvest Organic
Style: Green Tea – Region: Wuyuan, Jiangxi, China27 / 100 Aroma: 2/10 Flavor: 1/5 Value: 2/5
Sep. 1st, 2010
I brewed with water at a lower temperature, but other than that I brewed as instructed.
Aroma strongly suggestive of cinnamon, unusual for a green tea. Lacks the grassy qualities inherent in many green teas, but the aftertaste is similar to the aftertaste left by sencha. Overall though, aroma is weak. If "subtle ...
China Dragonwell from Ancora Coffee Roasters
Style: Dragon Well (Long Jing) – Region: China60 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 4/5
Aug. 31st, 2010
I found this review that I had written where I didn't have internet access--in the Madison, WI airport, and just entered it now.
This dragonwell has a broken leaf, but the classic dragonwell shape is recognizable. In spite of looking like a lower grade of this tea, this batch is considerably tastier than a lot of w...
Earl of Bengal Tea from Teatulia
Style: Earl Grey Tea – Region: Bangladesh73 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Aug. 30th, 2010
The loose leaf is larger and lighter gray than any of Teatulia's other black teas. The aroma of the dry leaf is strongly of bergamot, but it is a deep, complex aroma.
I brewed this tea for two minutes using one teaspoon per cup. This produced a bold, strong cup of tea that I think is a classic Earl Grey: very bala...
Holy Basil Purple Leaf from Upton Tea Imports
Style: Tulsi / Holy Basil – Region: India87 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 4/5
Aug. 28th, 2010
For me, this tea has been an acquired taste. Now, however, it is a favorite. Something about it is very calming - now it is my go-to bedtime tea.
The tea is sweet and spicy, and just the tiniest bit heavy.
Ben Shan Oolong King Grade from Life in Teacup
Style: Ben Shan Oolong – Region: Anxi, Fujian, China80 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Aug. 25th, 2010
I received this oolong in a set of samples from Life in Teacup, but could not find it for sale on their website.
This one immediately got my attention from even smelling the dry leaf--so aromatic. I have rarely encountered such intense floral aromas outside of the most expensive Dong Ding or Tie Guan Yin oolongs.

Tulsi Tea Loose Leaf (Tulsi Infusion) from Teatulia
Style: Flavored Black Tea – Region: Bangladesh67 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 4/5
Aug. 21st, 2010
This is interesting because it's so radically different from Organic India's blend of Tulsi and Black Tea that I almost wouldn't consider it the same style or in the same category.
The black tea used in this blend has some bite to it and is rather tannic. The aroma is deep and malty. The tea definitely dominates t...
Tie Guan Yin Special Edition, traditional charcoal roast from Life in Teacup
Style: Oolong Tea – Region: Fujian, China73 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Aug. 18th, 2010
This tea got my attention with its unusual aroma, and I suspect it's the Mao Xie. There's like a familiar woody quality, typical for a roasted oolong, but with a peculiar quality suggestive of a savory soup containing celery root and other vegetables. The flavor is surprisingly savory for an oolong, with not much in ...

Style: Fruit (Herbal) Tea – Region: Germany63 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 4/5
Aug. 17th, 2010
This tea looks like, smells like, and tastes like kool-aid. It was really bad when I drank it hot, and really bad when I drank it iced (cold brewed.) However, something happened when I made it hot, and then iced it - suddenly it was quite tasty. Still kool-aid like, but now refreshing rather than cloying.

Style: Flavored Black Tea – Region: Bangladesh80 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 4/5
Aug. 17th, 2010
The leaf looks just like black tea and the aroma is initially just like a particularly unremarkable black tea, but upon sipping the cup, wow, an explosion of flavor unlike anything I've had before.
It's hard to describe exactly what the neem is adding to this tea, because I've never tried anything from the neem tree...
Typhoo Tea from Typhoo
Style: Black Tea – Region: Blend77 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 4/5
Aug. 16th, 2010
This tea is much better than a Lipton or a PG Tips teabag. The brew is strong but still retains the flavor of the tea. It will get bitter if left for too long, but it is not that hard to brew. If someone is looking for a strong iced tea, this is your best bet. I have made countless gallons of iced tea with Typhoo and h...

Style: Yerba Maté – Region: Brazil93 / 100 Aroma: 9/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 5/5
Aug. 16th, 2010
This is one of the best Matés on the market. It is now the only Maté I will buy. The flavor is brighter and has more depth than the traditional Maté that Guayaki offers. This is good prepared in a gourd, a french press, a drip coffee brewer, a teapot, and an on the go brewing mug (yes I have tried all these ways). I...

This is a good tea, but it is picky about its parameters. One really has to watch this tea while it is brewing. The flavor is good even on latter infusions though, and endurance for a green tea is a good thing! Definitely be carful with this one though to get the desired flavor profile and strength.

This is a quality green tea! The leaves are made with just two leaves, no bud, and so the bitterness is kept to a minimum. The tea can be as light or as heavy as one would want it depending on brewing style, and either way it is delicious. The flavor could be a bit stronger (for my tastes) but I think lovers of good gr...

Style: Darjeeling First Flush – Region: Darjeeling, India87 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 5/5
Aug. 16th, 2010
For someone who does not enjoy first flush darjeeling teas, this was very impressive! On the company description it tells about a punchy astringency, but I did not find it in the brew, which is one of the attributes I loved! For a Darjeeling fan, I think it offers something new. For a person just delving into the world...

This is a great tea! Very affordable, and the quality is legitimate! It is a good tea for someone looking for a lighter green tea that is easy on the palate and relatively forgiving. I would drink this green tea everyday if I had it in bulk. Arbor Teas is a respectable company as well; devoted to the sustainability of ...

This is a great Dragonwell for its price.
I think that it is a good representation of a quality green tea at an affordable cost. Is this the best dragonwell out there? No. But is it a good everyday tea to enjoy? Definitely. The good part about it is that a purchase is in support of a sustainable company that is dedica...
Darjeeling Choice Teabags from Peet's Coffee and Tea (Peets)
Style: Darjeeling Black Tea – Region: Darjeeling, India67 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 4/5
Aug. 16th, 2010
I tried this in a Peet's in the Philadelphia airport. I let it brew 2 minutes. Peet's said they normally include two teabags but I only used one and saved the other for later--and I'm glad because this tea would have been far too strong.
This is unusually strong for a Darjeeling, but this could just be due to a ge...
Yongchun Fo Shou (Bergamot) Oolong Superior Grade from Life in Teacup
Style: Fo Shou Oolong – Region: Yongchun, Fujian, China88 / 100 Aroma: 9/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 4/5
Aug. 16th, 2010
The dry leaf is strongly aromatic and has a strange, different aroma--considerably sharper than most greener oolongs.
After brewing the first cup, I notice a mildly soapy aroma, but this completely vanishes upon drinking it. The aroma is very complex, with spicy, herbaceous tones, reminiscent of a weedy thicket in ...
Black Tea from Lipton Tea
Style: Black Tea – Region: ?????60 / 100 Aroma: 5/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 4/5
Aug. 16th, 2010
Many people who drink orthodox tea scorn at bagged tea (tea dust, as it is called in my family).
I do drink vast quantities of loose leaf, quality tea, but I don't despise Lipton's classic blend. I do not drink it hot though, I think that it tastes better iced and that is the manner which I drink it most. Would I ever...
