C.T.C. Irish Breakfast Blend from Upton Tea Imports

Style: Irish Breakfast – Region: Assam, India

85 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 5/5
Dec. 30th, 2019

A blend of Assam teas that turns out to be smooth and flavorful, and offered at an excellent price by Upton. It has been one of their top sellers, for a long time, and it is not hard to see why. This does not have the rough edges or iron notes that some breakfast teas have. It is earthy, nutty, and not a challenge t...

Organic Ho-ji Cha Kamakura from Upton Tea Imports

Style: Hojicha – Region: Kanagawa, Japan

80 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 4/5
Dec. 30th, 2019

This is a very nice hojicha. It is pleasantly roasty, but there is some complexity (dashes of soy sauce and caramel) and the underlying bancha comes thru well. The aroma is woody and fresh.

Ban Cha Green Tea from Hime

Style: Bancha – Region: Japan

65 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 2/5 Value: 5/5
Jul. 24th, 2019

This came recommended by RT leader Alex as a good budget bancha. And the price was very reasonable, about as little as anyone could expect to pay for a decent tea. It has a pleasant, earthy aroma, but the flavor is a little insipid. I wasn't expecting perfection tho - this is a reliable everyday green tea.

Upton Naturally Flavored Peach Sky Black Tea from Upton Tea Imports

Style: Flavored Black Tea – Region: ?????

55 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 2/5
Jul. 19th, 2019

Here is another of Upton's new naturally flavored series. This does have a pleasant, believable peach taste, and it is enjoyable both hot and cold. The price is pretty high though - I think it is the most expensive flavored tea I have seen from Upton, and I wonder why. Maybe because it contains some flower petals as...

Upton Naturally Flavored Lemon Drop Black Tea from Upton Tea Imports

Style: Flavored Black Tea – Region: ?????

85 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 4/5
Jul. 17th, 2019

I got some of this because the Upton website said it was a favorite in their office, and I figure that they know what is good. This is clearly a cut above your average lemon-flavored black tea (like Bigelow's Lemon Lift, e.g.) The lemon flavor is fresh and tangy, and seems very much like the real thing. The base tea...

Upton Naturally Flavored Summer Blend from Upton Tea Imports

Style: Flavored Black Tea – Region: ?????

65 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 4/5
Jul. 16th, 2019

A pleasant, fruity aroma is the outstanding feature of this tea. This contains some juniper along with orange and lemon zest flavors, which gives it a dash of piny zing. It is pretty mild overall, and tastes better lukewarm than hot or iced, interestingly enough.

This is a nice tea to look at, but the flavor is weak and bland. A little nutty taste. No plans to get more of this.

Mar. 19th, 2019

I had one called China Panyang Congou from Upton, which is also currently unavailable. I'm guessing this is the same thing. It is very enjoyable and tastes different from most of the teas I can think of. There is a pronounced barley/pumpernickel flavor. I've been brewing beer lately and this reminded me of the taste...

65 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 2/5

Colombian green tea with pear guava and soursop, and apparently some added flavor. Very floral, sweet, and fruity - almost candy-like. This would be nice in the summertime, but I probably won't get it again because of the price.

Very good. The gunpowder tea is a touch smoky and that helps it mix well with the mint.

More floral and perfumey than a typical EG. It is not Upton's best but it is a worthwhile tea.

A good Ceylon tea that is similar to mainstream teas like Tetley, only better. A bit more body and smoke to it. I hope this is offered again at some point.

I usually enjoy Upton's British style tea blends and this is no exception. The mix of malty Assam with a lightly smoky Yunnan makes a super all-around tea. It is good with milk, or in a masala chai, and lemon and sugar, while eccentric, also works.

Well, I hate to be in such disagreement with Alex Zorach, who knows so much more about tea than me, but my reaction to this went something like this: "blekh." You need to be careful with this. Use a lot and steep it for a while and it will be harsh and bitter. But a modest amount and short steeping time makes a somewh...

This is called an Irish breakfast, but for my tastebuds it seemed closer to an English breakfast or even a mainstream prebagged tea. It is pretty versatile and mellow. It goes best with milk but can take lemon or be used for masala also. Good.

It is always exciting for me to see a new Earl Grey appear among Upton's line up. This one strikes a great balance, with a light bergamot presence matched with a mellow base tea. This makes for an EG that tastes lovely and never irritates or seems too aggressive.

This is a pretty mellow but still flavorful Chinese black tea. A little nutty and smoky, and offered at a good price. It has more than a little pipe tobacco flavor to it also. As Alex points out, the aroma is interesting and has some earthy, barnyard notes. I am not always in the mood for a keemun, but this is a goo...

Didnt like this at first but it has grown on me. It is best warm-hot not piping hot - that allows the full nuanced flavor to come out. Earthy with a little citrus.
