Formosa Oolong (Oolong #8) from Adagio Teas

Style: Oolong Tea – Region: Taiwan / Formosa

90 / 100 Aroma: 10/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 4/5
Oct. 25th, 2018

This tea has a woody smell. It tastes of of coffee, chocolate and smoke but not overpoweringly. It is a full bodied tea with a malty taste. I have also found the taste changes drastically with brewing time. Shorter brews do not seem to produce the coffee/chocolate taste as much. It is never bitter unless over stee...

I really enjoyed this tea. It reminded me of restaurant oolongs, except with more complexity and less astringency. It resteeps well, too. It isn't my favorite oolong, but it's a solid example of its type.

Dark liquor, resteeps well, up to 4-5 times.
The first sip always mildly surprises me with its sweetness. It has a very mineral taste and there's a hint of smoke. I can kind of taste the advertised fruitiness in it if I concentrate, but that's not a descriptor that would have come to my mind.

I'm not generally a fa...

Superfine Taiwan Qing Xiang Dong Ding Oolong Tea from TeaVivre

Style: Oolong Tea – Region: Taiwan / Formosa

I wasn't as impressed with this as I was with the roasted version. It's pretty good, but nothing really stood out to me, and it lacks the complexity of the roasted version. Without the roast it's just another floral oolong to me. However, roasted Taiwanese oolongs are among my favorite teas, so maybe someone who loves ...

This was one of the free samples I picked with my Teavivre order. I put most of the sample in my gaiwan, leaving just enough for a later western style brew. The dry leaves smell quite roasted, but also floral and somewhat woody. The first infusion has an aroma much like the dry leaves, but a bit more floral. The taste ...

The H&S Formosa Oolong was my first experience with Taiwanese oolong-style tea. As such, I had no idea what to expect going in to it.

Now, I'm not a really big oolong drinker. I mostly like blacks and Japanese greens. As such, my only other experience with oolong (at this time) is a Chinese TGY. Compared to that, th...

This is a blend of Gui Fei and Jade oolongs, since the website doesn't make that clear. It has a very floral aroma, as expected. The first cup is clean with a honey-like sweetness, but it's more aromatic than flavorful. The second cup is more interesting: mild stone fruit notes appear, and the mouthfeel is thicker comp...

1st steep - 212F and approximately 4 min : 1.5 t or 1 heaping teaspoon : 12oz water

I was a bit concerned at first because the box aroma has a strong syrupy cherry amaretto smell to it. But once brewed, this tea has a mellow but present good black tea smell, and maybe a little nutty towards the end. There was no tra...

An overall, 'meh' tea. Was not milky or creamy at all, but that was expected. Had a cabbage taste which was the main thing I disliked about this tea. I would recommend this tea if you a fine with a strong vegetal taste.

The can calls this "green tea", but it's clearly a jade oolong. It's much better quality than Starway's other oolong teas. It's mediocre compared to other Taiwanese high mountain oolongs, but they're usually much more expensive than this.

The dry tea smells fresh, mellow and pleasant. There's no hint of a roast. The...

My friend gave me some of this tea to try.

I'm not good at tasting the difference between different greenish oolongs. Jade oolong, four seasons, Tie Guanyin, they often taste almost the same to me. It was the same with this one at the first steeping.

The second cup tasted different, though, like jade oolong but g...

I really loved this tea. It was the furthest I'd ever been in the direction of green oolongs when I tried it, so I was really surprised at the green, umami, mineral flavors. It was slightly buttery and more floral than the Nonpareil Taiwan Li Shan Oolong Tea. I liked that this one imparted a very relaxed feeling after ...

This is really unique, amazing tea. I really didn't find it all that floral. It was much more green, umami, mineral/salty, and had this buttery, rich body to it that really filled me up. The floral notes were there and ubiquitous, but not all that strong. I really liked that because some oolongs are just too heavy on t...

Picked this up at an Asian market the other day and it's now my office tea. Very flavorful. No sweetness and just a mild bitterness. Quite smooth, not as "bright" as the assam I had at breakfast.

I followed the directions on the package and used boiling water and steeped 4 minutes.

To me, this tasted a lot like the FooJoy Tung Ting oolong, but with notes of milk, cream, and at times, almost a custard, that came and went. The floral notes were very similar, like gardenia. I did enjoy those milky notes, but they didn't stick around long. They were present for the first steeping, but were largely in...

The scent of this is subtle, but the flavor is really wonderful. It's a lot like gardenias with hints of fruitiness and it sticks around in the mouth for a while. It's a very pleasing flavor and the floral aspect of it is deeper and more grounded than some of the lighter flowery flavors out there that can feel like the...

I bought this tea before and remember it as lovely and flowery, but when I bought more of it later, it just... wasn't so great.
It looks nice with the tightly rolled balls of leaves. It's got a kind of metallic taste that I find a bit unpleasant. That could be the jasmine-like taste that the product description mentio...

I picked this up at a local International Market not expecting much out of it as the price was very cheap (100 grams for $7.99). I've not had much luck with similar purchases in the past i...

My first "milky" oolong. Hmmm...
The aroma of the dry, dark, greenish-brown balls is overpoweringly sweet. I was shocked at how much it smells like caramel popcorn, with a creamy milk-like background. Quite bizarre, and smells more like something I'd eat rather than drink.

There's a lot of controversy with Milk ...

One of the 3 or 4 high mountain Taiwan oolongs that Music City offers. The company pretty much uses the same description for each of them, so I think a little more detail would be nice.

At first I didn't like this tea. The aroma was delicious honey, but I found the bitter earthiness in the flavor a bit off putting.

However, I tried it again the next day and used a smaller amount of tea...about 5 grams brewed in a 4 ounce gaiwan. I got 7 infusions.
This time the honey came out more in the flav...

This tea was a disappointment and I don't recommend it. I sampled and reviewed this tea some time ago but forgot to post the review.

Dry leaf consists of long, intact wiry leaves with a slightly dusty look, and smells very different from any other pouchong I've tried, an intense smell of jam or fruit preserves, lik...

An interesting roasty oolong that had some flavor characteristics of aged oolongs. Thank you Kelsey for sharing this one with me. I really enjoyed the aroma, but I found it too sour for my tastes.

The dry leaf looks and smells like a typical moderate-to-dark roast oolong of good quality.

The brewed cup is really ...

So, the aroma, well...it smells really good! I am getting notes of toasted peanuts, sesame seeds, pie crust...and is that marzipan? After sniffing a bit more, yep, that is definitely marzipan!
