Yunnan Golden Bud from Life in Teacup
Style: Yunnan Gold – Region: Yunnan, China70 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 3/5
Feb. 15th, 2011
The initial aroma is malty and deep, typical for a Yunnan gold, but with more fruity qualities, especially of dried fruit. Upon drinking the cup, the aroma becomes more fruity and vegetal, sharing some of the wine-like qualities of a Keemun with some of the vegetal qualities of some Darjeeling, even Darjeeling oolong ...

This tea was outstanding but I did not find that it fit its commercial description. I don't notice any wood-like aroma nor would I describe this tea as brisk. It shares many characteristics with a highly tannic Assam, but it is smoother, with little bitterness or astringency.
Aroma is mostly of sweet, dark dried f...

This tea really surprised me!
The mix of fruity and malty aspects really pulled it together.
Dark chocolate, rose, black currant, vanilla, wheat, oak and cocoa are just a few of the descriptors I used!

Smooth, reminds me of a "mild" Assam.

It smells very smokey right out of the package. Must have quite a bit of Keemun. This tea is perfect for today- I have been alone with my small kids for a few days, and I’m exhausted and also feel a cold coming on. This tea is perfect to wake me up, and also comfort. While trying to watch the kids and steep tea, I ov...

The leaves are gorgeous! the dry leaf smell reminds me of very strong dried fruits, such as dates and raisins. maybe a little goji berry, too. I also get a whiff of sweet tobacco, like what my father used to smoke in his pipe when I was a girl. The taste is very interesting, slightly caramel-y, and i’m also getting t...

This one really surprised me. I sampled it side-by-side with Yorkshire's traditional blend (their flagship tea) out of curiosity. I myself am highly skeptical of decaf tea.
It's not as good, I'll say that straight up. But...it's by far the best decaf black tea I've tried yet. It is even better than a number of c...

A lot of people seem to compare this to PG Tips, so I will continue the tradition. I will say, the two teas definitely are in the same style: a strong English-style breakfast tea. But, hands down, this tea absolutely toasts PG Tips, in spite of the fact that it came in a normal, flat tea bag, and the PG Tips I've had...

This was my first Nilgiri tea. I have heard Nilgiris described as being similar to Ceylon and I can see this. It's definitely more similar to a a lower-elevation Ceylon than it is to any other Indian tea I've tried. I don't notice much high-grown character in this tea.
I also think it's reminiscent of a Hubei Kee...

this is the first hong yue / ruby black i've tried.
when i sip it, i primarily get a smooth, somewhat malty taste. the aroma is sweet, but there's also something else.. something cooling. i guess it's like aromatic, volatile terpene/camphor/evergreen/eucalyptus type of a smell&feeling.
it's certainly complex, a...

Mild pungent aroma. Smooth flavor.
Certainly an "all day" tea choice.
Excellent price.
When I first spotted this tea, I was leery.
My other encounters with African grown teas have been disappointing. This one is the best so far.
Darjeeling Margaret's Hope Autumnal from TeaGschwendner

The liquor has a beautiful floral aroma with that sweet darjeeling muscatel scent. In taste, it is not as delicate as a first flush. It is bold, but without much of the floral notes that 2nd flushes usually have. It does have the soft mouthfeel described by the vendor, but I did not detect any woody notes. The tea is a...

I like this tea. I'm normally a green tea drinker, but these were left by the coffeemaker in a hotel I was staying at, so I took a few packets home. :) I enjoy this taste a lot better than a regular black tea. It tastes sweet. I never use sweeteners or milk, but I wouldn't recommend either to this tea. It has a sweet a...

The tea produces a nice golden cup. It has a strong astringent taste, and of course the muscatel that I've grown to love from Darjeelings. While it has the distinctive Darjeeling aroma, it does not have any delicate floral notes. the leaves are nice and large, and you don't need much to get a dark full bodied cup. The ...

I love this tea and drink it every day. I actually have it in loose form, which is great since I can decide how strong I want it, and I usually take about a tablespoon and steep it twice, the second time having a very pleasant liquorice-type flavour.
This is my first tea review, thanks for reading. :)
Assam from Two Leaves and a Bud

This is a very mild Assam. It is super smooth and has no bitterness whatsoever. To me it tastes like malty, liquid honey. It is super sweet, thick, and smooth. It has a sweet smell, similar to a raisin or apricot, with a slight tobacco aroma. When I taste it however, the only flavors that come through for me are the...

I'm a fan of PG tips for mornings when I just want a quick cup of strong tea to wake me up. It has a strong, malty aroma, that translates through to the taste as well. it has a slightly bitter flavor, similar to english breakfast. There is a slight frutiness as well. a very basic morning tea.

Brewing for about 4 minutes yields a nice rich golden color and a malty scent. Nothing fancy about the taste, but it's just what I look for in a quick breakfast (or early afternoon) tea- slightly bitter, malty, with a faint hint of fruit on top. This is of course a tea that would do well with a drop of milk and some su...

Each tea bag is a 'pyrmaid infuser'. It is a good way to let the tea breathe a little bit, and spread out. The leaves have a lovely sweet floral scent. I steeped the tea for the 4 minutes recommended on the box. The tea has a faint floral fragrance, along with a hint of that Darjeeling muscatel. These aromas translate...

There is something very muted and controlled about this tea. It reminds me of a high-grown Ceylon, from Nuwara Eliya, and I would probably believe it if someone labeled it as such. A faint malty aroma is barely present under a light, rice-like quality. Only a faint bitterness in the aftertaste, and very little astri...

Pouring the tea into the cup, the color is a medium brown color. It smells sour with a complex flowery undertone. The taste is mildly sour but incredibly sweet. There are hints of a rose taste with overtone of a flower that I can not identify.

Thank you Marlena for sharing this one!
Aroma is unique, and hard to describe, very clean and cool, yet deep. A suggestion of wintergreen, like I've only ever encountered in Ceylon teas from the Uva region. I can see the licorice and grilled vegetables Marlena describes, as well. The aroma suggests savory qualiti...
