Coconut Macadamia Herbal from Hawaiian Islands Tea Company
Style: Flavored Rooibos – Region: Blend55 / 100 Aroma: 5/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 3/5
Jan. 10th, 2018
Being a big fan of that taste, this is the third coconut-flavored tea I've tried and reviewed, and the weakest of them all.
All I saw in the dry bag was rooibos, no evidence of real coconut or macadamia pieces. This steeps up like every other decent rooibos: a nice reddish color, with rooibos itself being the over...

Peppermint Herbal Tea from Celestial Seasonings
Style: Peppermint Tea – Region: United States of America87 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 5/5
Nov. 20th, 2017
For peppermint, it's hard to top CS' version. As noted in some of my other peppermint tea reviews, this is an herb that is difficult to ruin anyway, and I love the flavor, whether stand-alone or mixed with other products (teas, candies, cookies, etc.). Some tea companies do use stems as cheap filler, or unadvertised ...

Moroccan Mint (Formerly Simply Mint) from Numi Organic Tea
Style: Mint Tea – Region: ?????59 / 100 Aroma: 3/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Nov. 9th, 2017
The final bag in the rolling saga that is my Numi variety-pack taste run has been completed. For background, spearmint doesn't turn me on or off, but I much prefer peppermint. The Moroccan mint used here, for what it is (much closer to spearmint), tastes fresh and sweet, in a cup that brews up surprisingly dark for a...

Coconut Zinger from Celestial Seasonings
Style: Fruit (Herbal) Tea – Region: Blend63 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 4/5
Oct. 27th, 2017
Coconut being one of my favorite flavors, this looked promising on the store shelf. With a sale price of just $2 at Sprouts, I figured to try a box. It contains all the usual suspects for a CS Zinger offering: hibiscus, rose hips, orange peel, and blackberry leaves, but with natural coconut flavors swapped in. The d...

Rooibos (Formerly Red Mellow Bush) from Numi Organic Tea
Style: Rooibos – Region: South Africa59 / 100 Aroma: 5/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 3/5
Oct. 24th, 2017
Ever pull apart a fresh new broom (the natural kind), crumble the straw and steep it up? I haven't (yet), but that's what straight rooibos reminds me of—broom tea, except with a red color and woody veneer.
Perhaps I share enough taste genes with ruminants (moooooooooo!) that the grassiness doesn't bother me muc...

Chamomile Lemon (Sweet Meadows) from Numi Organic Tea
Style: Chamomile Blend – Region: Blend83 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 4/5
Oct. 20th, 2017
Straight up: this is probably the best chamomile tea I've had. Chamomile is a difficult herb to either foul up or make amazing. Without some sort of enhancement, as Bill Parcells might say, "It is what it is." Numi helped by sprinkling lemon myrtle leaves into the mix.
This beverage brews up a rich golden color w...

Dry Desert Lime™ from Numi Organic Tea
Style: Fruit (Herbal) Tea – Region: ?????77 / 100 Aroma: 9/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Oct. 9th, 2017
When I lived in South Florida, I got to know and love fresh key limes, and still wolf down key lime pie when it is made the right way. Lime is one of my favorite fruit flavors, and the best among citruses to me. In fact, I often add lime juice to plain black teas.
Given that background, in hauling this out of a N...

Honeybush (Bushmen's Brew) from Numi Organic Tea
Style: Honeybush – Region: South Africa84 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 4/5
Oct. 2nd, 2017
Pulling this bag out at random from the continuing multi-chapter saga that is the Numi variety pack, I recognized the name right away from having consumed Trader Joe's rooibos+honeybush tea. The teas I've tried from the variety pack so far have been either disappointingly lame or very good. This falls into the latter...

Sweet & Spicy Caffeine Free from Good Earth Teas
Style: Flavored Rooibos – Region: Blend57 / 100 Aroma: 4/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5
Sep. 25th, 2017
A savory-looking roster of ingredients (rooibos, chicory, "natural flavor", rose hips, cinnamon, lemongrass, peppermint, chamomile, ginger root, anise seed, orange oil, orange peel) persuaded me to buy a box on sale at Wal Mart. Immediately upon extracting the bag from its wrapper, I wondered if someone had left open ...

Rooibos Chai (Formerly Ruby Chai) from Numi Organic Tea
Style: Rooibos Chai / Spiced Rooibos – Region: Blend86 / 100 Aroma: 9/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 4/5
Sep. 24th, 2017
For some reason, I've had a hard time assigning high values to teas lately, being on a remarkable run of sampling products hovering within +/- 20 percentage points of mediocrity. Not anymore! This one's a clear winner, folks.
While not the strongest chai I've had, it's more than potent enough to offset straight ...

Perfect Peach® Herbal Tea from Bigelow Tea
Style: Fruit (Herbal) Tea – Region: ?????63 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 3/5
Sep. 14th, 2017
I tried a peach tea that has some artificial flavoring. Here's what happened.
[Sorry, clickbait haters...couldn't resist...first, a backstory...]
For several years, my wife has used this, in combination with at least two other brands of peach tea and some black tea, to make a thoroughly delicious peachy iced tea...

Traditional Navajo Tea from Yanabah Navajo Tea
Style: Herbal Tea – Region: United States of America73 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5
Aug. 18th, 2017
Boxes of Yanabah teas, named after a Navajo matriarch beloved by the makers, appeared in the gift shop at Monument Valley for about 6 bucks (a tad on the costly side, but that is a tourist shop). Naturally I had to try something new, and bought the basic flagship variety. Greenthread is a common native forb in the ast...

Raspberry Zinger Herbal Tea from Celestial Seasonings
Style: Fruit (Herbal) Tea – Region: ?????59 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 3/5
Jul. 20th, 2017
Raspberry Zinger and Black Cherry Berry have the same ingredients list, but for the flavoring (obviously), and an absence of hawthorn in this offering. Yet it doesn't taste much like a simple swap of modular components. I could pull raspberry more out of the aroma and aftertaste than the direct flavor itself. Cherry...

Peppermint Herbal Tea from Carrington Tea

I love peppermint, and this brand doesn't seem to use a detectable level of stems, non-mint material, spearmint, or other needless filler. The aroma and taste accordingly are nearly maxed for the amount of leaves used (which I always wish were more!).
Although the flavor of this tea is standard peppermint -- no ...

Peppermint Herbal Tea from Bigelow Tea
Style: Peppermint Tea – Region: ?????75 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Jun. 13th, 2017
It's no big secret that I love peppermint, given that it pops up in my review docket almost as profusely as it does as a weed in cooler parts of the nation. As noted in one of my other reviews of a peppermint tea (Stash), it's hard, but possible, to screw up this herb as a tea.
Bigelow didn't screw this up. Thei...

Tulsi Turmeric Ginger from Organic India
Style: Herbal Tea – Region: India67 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5
Jun. 11th, 2017
Well, I do live in Oklahomi, so I doggone should try a tea called Tulsi. :-) Since I had to add this tea to the list, I'll assume it was a fairly recent addition to Organic India's product line, thereby hitching the brand to the turmeric-tea faddy wagon.
I probably should have tried a basic Tulsi tea first to le...

Hagebutte (Rosehips) from SPAR
Style: Fruit (Herbal) Tea – Region: ?????52 / 100 Aroma: 5/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 3/5
Apr. 26th, 2017
This was my first attempt at a tea made mostly from rose hips. It brews up a deep purple/maroon color that gets dark fast, and has a mild fruity (more than rosy) aroma, both dry in-bag and wet in-cup. Fair warning: watch for structurally weak bags. Of my first 4 bags, 3 split open somewhere while I was pouring the ...

Organic Ginger Tumeric Herbal Tea from Trader Joe's

Not being a huge ginger fan, but tolerant (I slugged down and enjoyed many a can of Vernor's soda in the days of drinking sugary fizz), I figured to give this inexpensive and compelling-looking flavor blend a try. Though the title touts ginger and turmeric, there's orange peel and orange oil in this too—enough that...

Pomegranate Delight from Teekanne

Apr. 1st, 2017
Not a big fan of the pomegranate fad, I decided to try this tea anyway, given its promising-looking roster of ingredients: hibiscus, rose hips, orange peel, lemon peel, natural pomegranate flavor, licorice, blackberry leaves, and ginseng. That should deliver a good load of fruitiness, and it did!
Though well-seal...

Orange & Spice Herbal Tea from Bigelow Tea
Style: Fruit (Herbal) Tea – Region: ?????70 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Mar. 28th, 2017
A hotel in northwest Dallas had bags of this tea on its breakfast area, so I tried a couple -- one there in (what is some of the consistently highest quality nationwide) city water and one at home in my own well water. In both instances, my impression of this tea is simple and straightforward: "Constant Comment" minu...

Chamomile Egyptian Golden Sun Presented by Wolfgang Puck from Numi Organic Tea
Style: Pure Chamomile Tea – Region: Egypt73 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5

I obtained this product, with what may be the longest name I've seen for a tea, from a hotel room. For now it appears to be available just as a food-service product. As chamomile teas go, this is decidedly above average--smooth, sweet, rich in flavor, deep-golden in color, and a nice concoction to close the day. No ...

Sweet Dreams Herbal Tea from Bigelow Tea

Have you ever tried to mix paints and stopped before the colors blended, when you had a swirl of mostly separate colors instead of the full, distinct, evenly distributed hue for which you aimed? This is the herbal-tea equivalent.
Better aroma than taste...this tea can't establish its identity inside the mouth, so...

Cinnamon Apple Herbal Tea from Bigelow Tea

Not even realizing I had a bag of this, I discovered it while digging in my pantry's tea shelves for something else. Guess my wife won't miss just one bag, eh...especially if there was only one in there. ;-)
Overall, I liked this tea a lot. The real apple pieces are quite visible inside the bag, and impart the gr...

Bergkräuter from SPAR

Since several folks reading this site may travel to Europe at some point and be tempted to buy some in the ubiquitous SPAR supermarkets, let this be a warning.
Upon seeing this on the tea shelves, I thought, "European, herbal, organic...must be good, right?" Since they won't permit customers to tear open a box an...

Simply Mint (Organic) from China Mist
Style: Mint Tea – Region: ?????57 / 100 Aroma: 4/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 4/5
Dec. 12th, 2016
As I mentioned in a review for Badia's mint blend, spearmint is a flavor I tend to avoid, even in blends, as for me it dilutes or detracts from peppermint. That said, this seemed to strike a good balance such that the peppermint still dominates and is the featured ingredient. The spearmint sits in the background, mas...
