Steinthal Estate TGBOP First Flush (DJ-25) Organic from Upton Tea Imports
Style: Darjeeling First Flush – Region: Darjeeling, India63 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 2/5 Value: 3/5
Jan. 5th, 2010
Disappointing for a first flush and even among broken-leaf Darjeelings. There's a heaviness to the flavor, even though it is smooth. I'm detecting neither the "fresh floral note" nor the "hint of citrus".
I'm not sure what to recommend with the brewing; if you go longer this tea becomes heavy, although not too bit...
Joyeux Noel from Lupicia
Style: Flavored Black Tea – Region: Blend70 / 100 Aroma: 5/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 4/5
Jan. 5th, 2010
Incredibly strange tea, but I loved every moment of it! It tastes just like roasted chestnuts, and not even in the fake syrupy way- it's a clean flavour with no sour aftertaste.
The smell however is different, almost unpleasant to me- it's sort of sickly sweet? Especially if you just smell the tea bag. But thankfully...
Organic Sweet & Spicy Caffeine Free from Good Earth Teas
Style: Flavored Rooibos – Region: Blend93 / 100 Aroma: 10/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 4/5
Jan. 5th, 2010
This is one of my favorite teas by Good Earth. There is nothing else quite like it. It is a great tea in the cold weather due to the warm cinnamon and other spices.

A bold and powerful tea but with some complexity. Fine broken leaf. Infuses quickly...I recommend one and a half minutes, and using less than a teaspoon of leaves. However, if you enjoy a stronger cup, this tea does not get as astringent as you might expect if you brew it longer.
Aroma malty, slightly more vegeta...
Zingiber Ginger Coconut Rooibos Tea from Teavana
Style: Flavored Rooibos – Region: Blend73 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 3/5
Jan. 3rd, 2010
I mixed this flavored rooibos with jasmine pearl dragon gunpowder rolls. I've been very happy with the tea. It drinks with a full body and spicy almost cinnamon aroma. The coconut is present but subtle. The ginger really only shows upon a second infusion. Unpleasant to drink extremely hot.

Jan. 2nd, 2010
This tea is so good that I asked the ratetea.net guys to add it to their database!
It's a wonderful black tea (So, you get a pretty good caffeine hit from it.) that is made even better with just the right amount of apricot flavoring. The apricot flavoring is strong enough so that it doesn't disappear behind the Ceyl...
Golden Wire - GopalDhara from Fresh Darjeeling Tea
Style: Darjeeling Autumnal Flush – Region: Darjeeling, India77 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 5/5
Jan. 2nd, 2010
Like the other teas I've tried from Fresh Darjeeling tea, this is totally unlike any other black tea I've ever tried.
Aroma very complex...malty, and much more vegetal than most black teas, and with some savory qualities, a hint of smokiness. Reminds me of a tippy assam more than any other Darjeeling I've tried. I...
Vietnam Green Sencha from Upton Tea Imports
Style: Sencha – Region: Vietnam80 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 5/5
Jan. 2nd, 2010
I would not recognize this tea as sencha from either the appearance of the leaves or the aroma of the dried leaf or brewed cup. There's only a faint suggestion of the characteristic sencha aroma, barely emerging and then vanishing.
The aroma is vegetal, but less seaweedy than sencha, and more savory. Tastes more s...
Monks Reserve-Castelton Estate from Fresh Darjeeling Tea
Style: Darjeeling Oolong – Region: Darjeeling, India67 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 5/5
Dec. 30th, 2009
Like the other teas I've tried from Fresh Darjeeling Tea, this tea is completely unlike anything I've ever tried! It is also the only Darjeeling oolong I've had that is rich and full-bodied.
Brews a dark color, darker than some Darjeelings I've seen classified as "black" teas. Malty, with a savory quality to it, a...
Soureni Organic Oolong from Fresh Darjeeling Tea
Style: Darjeeling Oolong – Region: Darjeeling, India83 / 100 Aroma: 9/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 4/5
Dec. 29th, 2009
This tea is unlike any other I have tried!
Cup is very light in color, and aroma very vegetal and somewhat floral, with a clean, honey-like fragrance. Tones of asparagus and spice. Certain aspects of the aroma are reminiscent of a Tung Ting, but overall the tea is crisper, cooler in quality, more bitter, and less ...
Holy Basil Purple Leaf from Upton Tea Imports
Style: Tulsi / Holy Basil – Region: India97 / 100 Aroma: 9/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 5/5
Dec. 27th, 2009
I had not tried tulsi (except possibly unknowingly as a seasoning) when I sampled this, and I fell in love after the first sip. The aroma is hard to describe, but very complex...I especially notice the anise and cinnamon, but I am usually not the biggest fan of these aromas, and I loved this tea. This is a very rich,...

Dec. 26th, 2009
I recall drinking a rose black tea from Czar Nicholas II a long time ago and really enjoying it, but I was disappointed with this tea. I don't know which blend I tried before;it may have been something different from this one.
While the black tea used actually seems to be fairly high-quality, it's overpowered by an ...
Malaika Estate OP from Upton Tea Imports
Style: Black Tea – Region: Kenya83 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 5/5
Dec. 26th, 2009
Dark but surprisingly smooth cup...not much bitterness and astringency, and clean aftertaste. The aroma is complex and interesting but very hard to put into words...slightly more vegetal than typical for a black tea. It's hard for me to know exactly what to compare it to...it tastes more like a Yunnan black tea than ...

Style: Dancong Oolong – Region: China73 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 4/5
Dec. 25th, 2009
Very complex. This one is much less fruity and floral than the other feng huang dancong I've tried (from Adagio), but it still has a faint suggestion of fruit...the aroma is cooler, and more skunky, woody, and perhaps earthy. Yet there is a similar light, peppery quality in the aroma. This tea also becomes astringen...

I want to like this tea more. Very strong ginger kick, which I enjoy, but a lemongrassy/medicinal foretaste, which I don't. I want something soothing yet spicy after dinner; this makes me feel like I'm being wormed.

Dec. 23rd, 2009
I loved this tea although I'm not usually crazy about green. It avoided the planty, health-food associations I usually make with green teas. Instead, there was a lovely, rather robust fragrance, almost floral. This is probably the one green that I will stock in my tea cupboard.

Dec. 23rd, 2009
This tea has a much greener character, to the point it's barely recognizable as a "black tea", except for some lingering tones in the aftertaste. The cup is a gold color like a darker green tea or lighter oolong. Clean, fresh, a bit mild...I can see what Upton says about the notes of citrus and mint.

Thailand Bold Leaf Green Tea from Upton Tea Imports
Style: Green Tea – Region: Thailand80 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 5/5
Dec. 22nd, 2009
Very different from any other green tea I've tried. Spicy aroma, complex...some fruity qualities, but aroma is mostly of spice. Very full-bodied, rich in flavor...tangy and yet without being heavy or too sour. Not very bitter and only a little astringent. I'm not tasting the "maltiness" in the description.

Dec. 20th, 2009
It's hard for me to evaluate this tea because I am not much of a fan of Lapsang Souchong...but this is among the smoothest of the ones I've tried so far. Perhaps I'd develop a taste for it if I drank it more often.
Very strong smoky aroma, more like a sausage or fireplace than a tea. Flavor is extremely smooth and...

Less similar to lemongrass or lemon balm than you would expect from the smell of the dry leaf, which smells almost identical to lemongrass. The brewed tea is mellower, and yet richer, warmer...less fresh tasting, and has an almost bread-like quality in the aroma, sort of yeasty. Sweet and a tiny bit tangy.
