Indian Chai from Allegro
Style: Chai / Spiced Tea – Region: ?????66 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 3/5
Nov. 9th, 2018
A vacation motel/lodge at which I was staying in southern Colorado had a large assortment of Allegro teas, all of which I have tried or will. [I'm basing "value" off their stated online prices, compared to what one gets.] Here's the next in line.
By itself, this was a reasonably good tea, albeit different than e...
Tropical White from Allegro
Style: Flavored White Tea – Region: ?????53 / 100 Aroma: 4/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5
Nov. 4th, 2018
Realizing white tea isn't supposed to be particularly intense, from what I've read here regarding its "delicate" flavor, and that any attempt to flavor it must be careful so as to avoid overwhelming the base tea, I went in to the consumption undertaking not expecting to be blasted through the roof by an explosion of po...

If this were all Christmastime had to offer, I'd say, fast-forward to the new year. Fortunately, it's not. "Christmas Tea" is one of the better Twinings black teas I've tried, but...
1. That's not saying much, and
2. It's a very poor approximation of Bigelow's much richer, more-flavorful Constant Comment blend. ...
Earl Grey from Allegro
Style: Earl Grey Tea – Region: Blend54 / 100 Aroma: 5/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 4/5
Nov. 2nd, 2018
When you have lemons, make lemonade? That seems to have happened here. While not overpowering, the distinct aroma of lemon wafted rather aggressively out of the pouch when I tore it open, and that scent stayed in the dry bag strongly until pouring the hot water through it. The in-cup smell was more balanced, but the...

So there I was in the tea section of a grocery store in western Colorado, realizing I had forgotten to bring enough green tea along on vacation, looking for some. The bright red, cylindrical tin with the black lid and white star caught my attention, as did the unusual brand name and flavor: pineapple, one I enjoy. T...

Oct. 30th, 2018
Bags of this tea came from a conference's coffee-break session, alongside a bunch of other Tazo and Bigelow teas that I mostly have tried already. Somehow, despite liking chai a lot, I hadn't had this one yet. It's a keeper—not the best chai I've chugged, but very satisfying, robust, and sharp. My wife likes to pa...

This is a very well-balanced rendition of berry-flavored green tea, an enjoyable sip or chug. As I've found with many bagged green teas, the dry-bag aroma was weak, but in-cup, the smell became more full and representative of the taste, while the deeply breathed wet-bag aroma was richest of all sensations (including ...

Admittedly I haven't been up to the Urban Teahouse location in OKC as of this writing, but drinking this at a Norman breakfast restaurant, and getting a sample to take home and chug, makes me want to pay a dangerous visit next time I'm up in that part of "The Big Town". Why dangerous? Because of what that visit woul...

If you like both mango and green tea, you can't go wrong here. From my time in South Florida, eating mangoes fresh off co-workers' trees, it has been one of my favorite fruits and flavors. Murchies consistently cranks out delicious tea varieties; the other flavored green of theirs I've tried, blueberry, is a househol...

This is an absolutely outstanding tea, and I don't wield such platitudes frivolously. Opening the jar unleashes a powerful, creamy blast of chai aroma, which was mouth-watering for me in anticipation of the taste. Sometimes I open it just to take a whiff; this stuff would make an excellent Christmastime potpourri if ...

About 15 years ago, out by L.A., I saw a dude outside a smoothie shop dressed in yellow hat, yellow shoes and yellow tights, wearing a lemon costume. Had he asked me for a lift, I could have handed him a bag of this tea and satisfied the request.
Otherwise, the tea is not too useful. It reminded me a lot of flavor...

Wow, am I ever ignorant. After rating a hundred-some-odd teas, I only just discovered by accidental click that I can rate teas on RateTea that have retired! Except...it ain't really retired anymore. This one and at least few others from Teavana have come back like that mythical phoenix. A set of 15-sachet plastic j...

Straight up, this is a blatant, unapologetic and remarkably close approximation of Celestial Seasonings' Candy Cane Lane (one of my very favorite teas), right down to the decaf green tea, the rest of the ingredients list, and the square stringless flat bags housed in a gummed wax-paper pouch, within a similarly sized b...

How appropriate it is that I opened this box, bought in Kailua and brought to Oklahoma, on the night after a the largest Big Island quake since the 1970s, while Kilauea's East Rift fissure belches steam, acrid fumes and fountains of lava through Leilani Estates. Would Mango Maui prove as smooth and relaxing as a seabr...

Farmer Brothers apparently uses the same relatively rich base tea as for their plain black offering, which similarly brews up dark and tastes stronger than most brand-name bagged teas. As such, you can pluck a bag or three off your hotel's or conference's tea table with confidence you'll get a passable, perhaps even r...

Teas with ridiculously long names seem attracted to me. Whether that's an attraction of the pleasant and fortuitous variety, or more akin to flies swirling around steaming dung heaps, is another story. This blend is one of the few loose-leaf offerings I've seen at TJ's, and contains several dried ingredients that var...

Mistakenly and distracted by engaging conversation, I grabbed a couple of bags at a conference, thinking this was straight green Bigelow tea as typically served, without looking carefully at the little red strip declaring, "with pomegranate". I still didn't notice upon ripping open the wrapper, dropping bag into cup a...

Sweet dessert-flavor teas will snatch my attention every time. This has, for both wonderful and disgraceful reasons.
The Wonderful: Tazo has a small line of enticing new black teas flavored with herbal blends so as to resemble assorted cookies and cakes. Having loved butterscotch-chip cookies as a kid, I grabbed...
Coconut Matcha from Zhena's Gypsy Tea

Feb. 4th, 2018
Setting aside the blatant commercial appeal to hipster New Age hocus-pocus in the labeling's verbiage and art, the composition of this tea showed promise on the shelf. I like coconut a lot, and have come to tolerate matcha-infused green tea, so this looked like it was worth a try when I saw it discounted at Sprouts. ...

Investigating the dry bag (looks and aroma), then the wet bag in-cup, I expected the ginger to have a lot more kick. Not that I thought it would treat the epiglottis as a punching bag, like Vernors soda, or the strong "Ginger Beer" I often drank in college...but this presentation did set expectations that reality coul...

Tea-flavor blends are like marriages: a wide spectrum of compatibilities and results, from the "opposites attracted" who somehow live happily-ever-after to the seemingly alike soulmates on the road to disastrous divorce, vice versa, and every outcome in between.
In that context, leave it to a Canadian tea company...

Reading the online description, I had a hearty belt-buckle chuckle realizing that the title contains "Moroccan"...in a blend from South India (green tea), U.S. Pacific Northwest (spearmint), and region not given, but not likely Morocco (lemongrass). The product itself was comped to me by the store manager after he ov...

I've only tried and reviewed a few jasmine greens so far, but Yamamotoyama's is the first whose jasmine aroma (dry bag and wet cup) clearly stood as vastly stronger than the flavor. The jasmine taste was detectable, no mistaking it, but couldn't deliver on the promise made by the smell. The aroma took me back to warm...

Being a fan of pineapple as a taste, and seeing that this offering was reasonably inexpensive (for Hawaii anyway) at the Wal Mart in Kona, I figured to give it a try. While not bad, each step of the process disappointed me a bit more, leaving an impression less favorable than the potential.
Each tea bag in a standa...
Herbal Green from Murchie's Tea & Coffee Ltd

I haven't had a bad offering from Murchie's yet, and this one isn't either. Of the herbs used to flavor the Chinese green tea (lemongrass, ginger, peppermint, fennel, and lemon peel), I can taste the fennel and lemongrass best, and the peppermint least. Since peppermint tends to be a potent, dominating kind of herb, ...
