Joy Full Leaf from Tazo Tea

Style: Miscellaneous Tea-only Blend – Region: Blend

70 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 3/5
Apr. 2nd, 2014

Sampled at the Starbucks at Woodland Green, West Philadelphia.

I have a sneaking suspicion that this is the same tea as, or at least inspired by, the now-discontinued tea "Tazo Montage", which I never got a chance to review.

Brews up a rich golden-brown cup, about the color of a darker oolong, clearer than a blac...

Passion Full Leaf from Tazo Tea

Style: Herbal Tea – Region: Blend

43 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 1/5 Value: 2/5
Apr. 1st, 2014

The original Tazo passion was far too sour for me. I tried this one out of curiosity, and because I wanted to review it. Like all of the new Tazo teas, it has a richer, more complex aroma, in which I'm able to detect the individual whole ingredients more easily.

The orange peel really comes out in the aroma. I al...

Tazo Chai Full Leaf from Tazo Tea

Style: Chai / Spiced Tea – Region: ?????

80 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Mar. 28th, 2014

Like most of Tazo's teas, I think this improved greatly in the change to the full leaf version. But I don't think it's just the quality of ingredients, I think the blend of spices has changed considerably.

The old, flat tea bag was dominated by clove, and although it wasn't too heavy on the cinnamon, it was also to...

Earl Grey Full Leaf from Tazo Tea

Style: Earl Grey Tea – Region: Blend

80 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 4/5
Mar. 26th, 2014

I've drunk Tazo's Earl Grey in flat tea bags (what they now call "filterbags") a number of times, and only now tried the newer full-leaf version, part of my attempt to sample all of Tazo's full leaf teas before Starbucks switches to serving only Teavana.

The aroma is fresh and light, and oddly pervasive. This is a ...

Zen Full Leaf from Tazo Tea

70 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5
Mar. 25th, 2014

Of all of Tazo's teas, I think this one is the most changed from the flat tea bag version to the full leaf version. It's vaguely recognizable but I find, while I hated the old version, this was quite pleasant to drink.

The first cup, which I steeped about 2 minutes (and it was plenty strong) was a rich golden color...

63 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Mar. 15th, 2014

I had the opportunity to sample this at a small cafe that had only two tea bags left in their stock. It obviously was not fresh, as this tea was discontinued quite some time ago, and the copyright on the bag said 2007.

The tea was surprisingly drinkable and still retained quite a lot of flavor and aroma. Flavor wa...

Refresh Mint Full Leaf from Tazo Tea

Style: Mint Tea – Region: ?????

70 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 4/5
Nov. 13th, 2013

This full-leaf sachet definitely offers an upgrade in experience relative to the old, flat tea bag. The first thing I notice is that there is much more leaf, leading to a very potent cup.

The overall character of the blend is the same, but I thought it was a little more complex: the mint was more herbaceous and sme...

Chai Classic (Formerly Organic Tazo Chai) from Tazo Tea

Style: Chai / Spiced Tea – Region: Assam, India

60 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 3/5
Oct. 18th, 2013

A pleasant and drinkable, but somewhat uninteresting spiced tea or masala chai in a tea bag.

Brews a rich reddish brown color. Bold but clean flavor...moderately bitter and not very astringent.

I definitely notice clove as the dominant aroma. There's not much cinnamon, and I like that, as many commercial chai b...

May. 29th, 2013

Of all the teas I've sampled from Tazo in both the old tea bags, and the new full leaf sachets, this is the one that I think improved the least.

I thought the old tea was already pretty complex, above average for a tea bag, but I think this one is below average for a whole leaf sachet.

Aroma is mostly malty, typi...

Before Tazo switched to what they call whole leaf sachets, this was one of my favorite of their blends. It remains so, and I definitely think it is improved, although not as much as some of them.

Like the original tea bag, I find this has just the right amount of chamomile for me--enough that I notice it but not en...

70 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 3/5
May. 22nd, 2013

When Starbucks switched to what they call full leaf sachets, I noticed a big improvement in quality, often manifested in complexity of the aroma. This is one of the teas where I found the aroma increased most in complexity.

This green tea is REALLY vegetal. Like, intensely vegetal, much more so than I remember the...

This blend, which has since been discontinued, is an odd one. I can see why it was discontinued, but I'm glad that I was able to try it when it was available.

Tazo adds citric acid, "natural flavors", and orange peel to black tea to create this blend. Unlike Tazo passion, another blend with added citric acid, whic...

Ugh. This one was sweetened, and I didn't expect it. Annoyingly, I can't find any info online about it being sweetened or what it is sweetened with. To me, this tastes extremely sweet, but I'm used to only drinking unsweetened tea. And from reading the commercial description, there's no way to know that it's sweete...

I think this blend strikes a good balance between spearmint and peppermint, with both noticeable and neither overpowering the other. I can actually detect the tarragon as well; it's not as evident in the aroma, but it is a bit in the aftertaste; it's subtle but makes this tea somewhat more pleasing.

Moderately stro...

An exceptionally strong Earl Grey, much stronger than any of Tazo's other teas. I recommend steeping a little less than one normally would: 1-2 minutes still yields a strong cup, and then you can get a second infusion.

Aroma is very rich: somewhat malty, moderate bergamot presence, and some lemony tones. Full-bodi...

A bit of a muddled aroma, but it works. There are some fruity tones, like a muscatel Darjeeling but with a more tangy flavor. Upon drinking more of the cup, I can notice some grassy qualities, and a brightness that I associate with high-grown black teas. Flavor is fairly sour, and only slightly bitter. There's a hi...

Strong gingery aroma: dried ginger, not particularly fresh. The aroma is also suggestive of licorice. Lemongrass is noticeable in the aroma. Not much green tea presence. Spicy overall. Flavor is muddled. Color is a rich golden orange. Peppery aftertaste.

While I've had a lot worse, this one just didn't do it ...

Like Tazo Passion, I find this tea far too sour. Anne describes this as "without the sting of a zinger" but honestly I found it obscenely sour just like those teas. I don't like it! I think they've added citric acid to this one just like with Tazo Passion.

In terms of the aroma, I do really like it. It's very or...

Dec. 7th, 2010

Served in a Starbucks. I was impressed with this for a tea bag, but it really did not compare to the majority of the loose-leaf green tea I buy.

Aroma was a bit muddled, vaguely toasty, fairly vegetal, and with only a hint of grassiness. Warmer, and less crisp and refreshing than I like. I like Zhejiang greens an...

Aroma rather complex...there's a hint of maltiness like an Assam, and a fairly strong presence of the light, clean quality of a high-grown Ceylon (as from Nuwara Eliya), and there are some spicy tones as well, including a hint of clove...and it oddly also has a suggestion of orange in there too.

Flavor is very sour....

Flat, dry aroma, mostly of straw and leaf...little fruity lemon aroma and more of the muted straw-like quality of the lemongrass. Very bitter. Crisp but without being fresh or cooling as I had hoped from this tea. I also found the tea to be weak in aroma.

This was disappointing, both on its own and relative to wh...

Brews a dark golden-orange, dark for a green tea. Aroma is flat and subdued; there's not even a hint of floral quality. Surprisingly full-bodied, however, for a decaffeinated tea. More flavorful than aromatic.

Not what I expected; I was expecting something light and floral, but this is a heavier tea, disappointin...

This is without a doubt one of my favorite Tazo teas and also one of my favorite herbal teas. It balances just the right amount of chamomile with other ingredients so that there's a lot of chamomile in the aroma but there's also a lot of other stuff going on too. Unlike some of Tazo's other teas, this one is not too...

While I love the aroma of this tea, it is so sour as to be completely undrinkable. I have found a way to remedy this by running cold water over the teabag for about 15 seconds before brewing it. This leaves most of the aroma intact but removes most of the sourness. The resulting tea is very enjoyable.

I'm rating ...
