English Breakfast from The Tao of Tea
Style: English Breakfast – Region: Blend72 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 4/5
Nov. 22nd, 2017
This tea smelled fantastic, but it was disappointing when I actually brewed it. It also didn't seem to match the commercial description or my expectations for an English Breakfast blend.
The dry leaf has a fresh, light fruity aroma, smelling very sweet and bright. The fruitiness is more like fresh grapes than drie...
English Breakfast - Ceylon OP from Passenger Coffee
Style: English Breakfast – Region: Kandy, Sri Lanka82 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 3/5
Nov. 10th, 2017
Another tea I ordered at Copper Cup in Lancaster, PA.
Rich and malty, full-bodied, but not overly tannic, with just the right amount of body and fruit. Aroma of malt and dried fruit. I find Kandy tends to produce teas that have a classic British character, and this tea is no exception...it tended a little more tow...
English Breakfast (Loose) from Twinings
Style: English Breakfast – Region: Blend62 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 2/5
Jul. 26th, 2017
The commercial description of this tea is pretty grandiose...it makes it sound like a masterpiece of blending, and I would say it's not.
To me, this is a classic but somewhat run-of-the-mill blend that is enjoyable but stands out in no way. I would not describe it as complex, although it's a good bit more complex, ...
English Breakfast Black Tea from Heavenly Tea Leaves
Style: English Breakfast – Region: Assam, India85 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 5/5
May. 24th, 2017
My roommate got a tea sampler of four teas from this company, Heavenly Tea Leaves, which I hadn't heard of before then, and let me try all the teas. I was really impressed with this one, especially with its combination of reasonable price and great quality.
Dry leaf looks mostly intact pieces of whole leaves, smell...
English Breakfast from Harney and Sons
Style: English Breakfast – Region: China86 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 5/5
Apr. 5th, 2017
Harney says this blend is 100% Keemun and it shows...tastes just like Keemun, which I like, but definitely more like the more modern English Breakfast style than a Keemun picked at random. Fuller-bodied and richer than most English Breakfast, but softer and less crisp.
Dry leaf has an aroma that is gentle and pleas...
English Breakfast from Benner Tea Co
Style: English Breakfast – Region: ?????39 / 100 Aroma: 4/10 Flavor: 1/5 Value: 2/5
Mar. 10th, 2017
This was pretty bad. I'd take it over Lipton, but that's not saying much. I like to try low-end teas now and then so that I'm truly aware of the full range of tea on the market, and this was certainly a low-end tea.
This is one product that I honestly had no idea what to expect when I approached it. On the one ha...
English Breakfast Black Tea from Rituals
Style: English Breakfast – Region: ?????57 / 100 Aroma: 5/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 3/5
Jan. 26th, 2017
A humble English Breakfast tea bag, above average for a flat tea bag, pleasantly smooth and drinkable.
This brand has an almost legendary status on our website...not that a lot of people review it, almost none do, but that we get a ton of messages through our contact form, of people asking where you can buy it. And...
English Breakfast from Metropolitan Tea Company
Style: English Breakfast – Region: Blend80 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 4/5
Jul. 21st, 2015
Served at Notting Hill coffee shop in Lewes, DE.
An outstanding English Breakfast blend: robust and strong, with a rich and complex aroma. The aroma is slightly malty, and has noticeable wintergreen notes.
Flavor is very bold and rich; flavor is both bitter and savory, and astringency is fairly strong; be carefu...
Bond Street English Breakfast Blend from Upton Tea Imports
Style: English Breakfast – Region: Blend53 / 100 Aroma: 5/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 2/5
Mar. 31st, 2015
A classic, prototypical English Breakfast tea of average quality. Goes well with milk and probably better suited to people who (unlike me) drink their tea with milk.
A CTC (broken, mechanically-processed) tea; the dry leaf isn't terribly aromatic, but has a pleasant slightly malty aroma.
Produces a very dark cup...
English Breakfast Black Tea from MajaTei
Style: English Breakfast – Region: Blend80 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 4/5
Jan. 15th, 2015
Definitely one of the best English Breakfast teas I've sampled. A somewhat subdued tea that was slow to infuse, but became quite robust if steeped long enough. Quite different from a typical breakfast tea.
The dry leaf, which is fairly large pieces of leaf that are tightly rolled, smelled slightly of cocoa, but wa...
English Breakfast Decaffeinated from Twinings
Style: English Breakfast – Region: ?????50 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 2/5 Value: 2/5
Jun. 21st, 2014
I was surprised to find this tea tasted completely different from the caffeinated version of Twinings English Breakfast. The caffeinated tea, I found bland and uninteresting.
This wasn't exactly the most flavorful tea. I brewed with boiling water and steeped for three minutes. Flavor is muted, but the aroma has p...
Devonshire English Breakfast Black Tea from Celestial Seasonings
Style: English Breakfast – Region: Blend47 / 100 Aroma: 5/10 Flavor: 2/5 Value: 2/5
Dec. 20th, 2013
I wasn't expecting much...but has some aroma. Tones of malt and wood. Yes, it's not loose tea, and I even think this is pretty far behind most of Celestial Seasonings' herbal blends.
Considerably smoother than Lipton, but still full-bodied. I'd appreciate a little more up-front bite--perhaps a longer steeping wou...
English Breakfast Decaf from Red Rose Tea
Style: English Breakfast – Region: Blend43 / 100 Aroma: 4/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 3/5
Dec. 16th, 2013
The tea bag has no smell, contrasting with the tea bag of the caffeinated Red Rose English Breakfast, which has a pleasant malty smell. I steeped for 5 minutes, which is what I prefer for the caffeinated version--even that tea is on the weak side for my tastes.
Upon brewing, the cup doesn't have much of a smell, bu...
English Breakfast from Bare Tea
Style: English Breakfast – Region: Anhui, China83 / 100 Aroma: 9/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Nov. 11th, 2013
Initially sampled at the Philadelphia Coffee and Tea Festival, but I'm glad I sampled this on my own because I liked it even more when I brewed it myself. An unusual Keemun with both cooling and warming qualities. Strong enough to be a breakfast tea, but stands out among both other English Breakfasts and other Keemun...

Style: English Breakfast – Region: Assam, India57 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 3/5
Oct. 25th, 2013
I found this tea interesting in that it is in the English Breakfast style, but is made from pure Assam. The tea bag looks unimpressive--it's just a simple tea bag filled with very finely broken tea dust or fannings.
The brewed cup is not bad though. It's a little darker in color than a typical English Breakfast, w...
English Breakfast from Dilmah
Style: English Breakfast – Region: Sri Lanka / Ceylon50 / 100 Aroma: 5/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 2/5
Aug. 29th, 2013
This was not what I expected; a very smooth English breakfast tea. Very full-bodied and mild, more sweet than bitter. Creamy, and a bit bland flavor-wise.
Aroma is unusual...the dominant quality is vanilla and caramel, but in those subtle ways that pure teas exhibit these sorts of qualities. Slightly flat tasting...
British Breakfast from Republic of Tea
Style: English Breakfast – Region: Blend43 / 100 Aroma: 3/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 3/5
Jul. 29th, 2013
I was actually quite interested to finally sample this tea, as Republic of Tea seems more oriented towards blends and flavored teas, but I tend to like pure teas best.
I found this to be an average black tea in tea bags. Nothing really jumped out at me. There were fewer objectionable qualities (less harshness) tha...
Organic Decaf English Breakfast from Paisley Label Tea (Paisley Tea Co)
Style: English Breakfast – Region: Blend30 / 100 Aroma: 3/10 Flavor: 2/5 Value: 1/5
Jun. 7th, 2013
Like Paisley's other offerings, this is finely-broken tea in a flat paper tea bag.
In contrast to Paisley's other teas, which I found overwhelmingly strong, this one was weaker than typical for black tea. I steeped it a bit longer than normal, and both the color and flavor were on the mellow side.
The aroma is i...
Awake English Breakfast Full Leaf from Tazo Tea
Style: English Breakfast – Region: Blend60 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 3/5
May. 29th, 2013
Of all the teas I've sampled from Tazo in both the old tea bags, and the new full leaf sachets, this is the one that I think improved the least.
I thought the old tea was already pretty complex, above average for a tea bag, but I think this one is below average for a whole leaf sachet.
Aroma is mostly malty, typi...
English Breakfast Tea from Frontier
Style: English Breakfast – Region: Blend80 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 5/5
May. 5th, 2013
This tea was very fresh when I picked it up. Dry leaf is largeish pieces of broken orthodox tea, with a pleasant aroma, typical of black tea but with hints of cinnamon and wintergreen, a good sign!
Brews a very dark color. Very aromatic, and with a very smooth flavor! Only slightly malty, balanced with fruity qua...
English Breakfast from Twinings
Style: English Breakfast – Region: ?????47 / 100 Aroma: 4/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 2/5
Apr. 12th, 2013
I thought this tea uninteresting. As an English Breakfast tea, I strongly prefer Twinings Ceylon Orange Pekoe. If they labelled that tea as their English Breakfast, I'd be perfectly convinced.
This tea has a very bold flavor. It is quite bitter--more so than astringent, which I like. Produces a clear cup with a ...
English Breakfast (Teabags) from Ahmad Tea
Style: English Breakfast – Region: Blend40 / 100 Aroma: 4/10 Flavor: 2/5 Value: 2/5
Apr. 5th, 2013
This is the first tea I've tried from Ahmad Tea that I was disappointed with. I found it uninteresting and below-average quality.
Aroma is slightly malty, but weak overall.
I found this tea to have an unpleasant sourness and a slightly odd aroma. The aroma was malty, but it seemed too much like other generic br...
Organic English Breakfast from Wegmans
Style: English Breakfast – Region: Blend63 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5
Mar. 13th, 2013
This is a really standard but high-quality black tea. It doesn't taste like an English Breakfast blend though; it's not particularly malty or robust. I found it a bit boring.
Brews an opaque orangish-brown. Aroma is fruity and reminiscent of a typical Ceylon black tea of decent quality. Flavor is moderately stro...
Organic Breakfast from Mighty Leaf Tea
Style: English Breakfast – Region: Blend47 / 100 Aroma: 5/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 2/5
Jan. 31st, 2013
I found this to be an above-average black tea in tea bags, but not good enough to justify the price. These sachets are very expensive, almost $10 for only 15. This places them in the same price range with Two Leaves and a Bud, which I prefer.
Aroma is not terribly complex: malty and robust, but not as strong relat...
Royal English Breakfast from Harney and Sons
Style: English Breakfast – Region: Blend63 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5
Jan. 17th, 2013
I enjoyed this in a Barnes and Noble cafe. Compared to Tazo Awake, I prefer this tea pretty solidly. It's perhaps a bit mellower, but I think more complex and smoother.
This was a solid black breakfast tea. It didn't quite scream "English" the way some English Breakfast blends did, but it did strike me as a typic...
