Plum Blossom White from Simple Loose Leaf

80 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Jun. 5th, 2014

Method: 1 heaping tsp, 200 degrees, grandpa style

Dry Leaf Aroma: Amazeballs. This smells like ripe fruit and candy. This is the 2nd time today I have felt that a tea tasted like some candy from my past. But not the SAME candy as that first tea. This smells like plummy candy.

Brewing Aroma: Same as above, only qu...

Nonpareil Taiwan Li Shan Oolong Tea from TeaVivre

Style: Oolong Tea – Region: Taichung, Taiwan

83 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 4/5
Jun. 3rd, 2014

The dry tea smells lightly roasty and floral. While brewing, I can pick up some fruity aromas, like grape.

The flavor of the brewed tea is smooth and roasty. It has a subtle spinach flavor. I don't really taste any of the floral or fruity notes from the aroma, but that's ok, because I still really like this one...

Coconut Creme from The Persimmon Tree

Jun. 2nd, 2014

Wow, I am on a roll with teas this AM! Both selections so far are new, and both were very good. This white tea smells wonderful, and when brewed, it absolutely tastes like coconut.

I tried it without sugar, and then with a little added. It was good both ways, but I preferred it with a small amount of rock sugar. ...

Oh my. This is a good one! The dry tea leaves smell like malty cookies with a hint of jasmine. Malty Jasmine cookies! I want to bake some to go with this tea.

The brewed tea smells less floral and more sweetly malty. And the flavor... it's very sweet on its own, without any additives. I love that. It tastes m...

May. 31st, 2014

This was a good tea, but I wasn't blown away. Interestingly, the dry tea smells like pumpkin guts. That's the second time I've smelled tea leaves with this aroma within a week. It's very pleasant, but I'm a little confused.

That being said, I didn't pick up on any nuances in the flavor. The flavor here seems hea...

Style: Oolong Tea – Region: Nantou, Taiwan

80 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
May. 30th, 2014

Pumpkin Guts! The dry leaves smell like pumpkin carving time. This is great for me, since I happen to love that time of year, as well as pumpkins. While steeping, the tea smells green and sweet. It smells only very faintly roasted.

The flavor is mild and a little more roastiness is apparent in the flavor than th...

May. 28th, 2014

Super. This tea is just excellent!

I like finding finer teas that do well with a Western-style brewing. I admit that I tend toward laziness, and there's just no time in the AM to pull out the gong fu set. While I expect that this tea would potentially be even more amazing brewed with short steeps, it was also won...

May. 27th, 2014

I received this as a sample with my last order, and I wish there was a little more in the sample pack, because I think this would be a good cold brew tea.

As a hot tea, this was pretty ok. The aroma was lovely and it had a fruit flavor that didn't really taste like anything I am familiar with. Unfortunately, it ...

Not sure about this one. I like the ginger. It's got a nice kick, which I enjoy, but the overall taste is a little weak. I brewed according to the directions, and steeped at the high end of the time range,

If I have enough left, I'll try using 1.5x to 2x the tea per 8 oz next time. I want to like this a little more...

May. 24th, 2014

This was my first month of Handmade Tea. I could barely smell and taste the lemon, but I still like this tea. I added a little sugar and I liked the result. I thought this tea had a lovely mild flavor. I’m going to try this as a cold brew later. I may add a little extra lemon and see how that goes.

This tea is pretty heavy on the cinnamon. The aroma is primarily cinnamon, and a little nutty.

After steeping, the flavor was kind of weak, and I steeped for 6 and a half minutes. I added a little rock sugar, which brought the nutty flavor forward. I didn't taste any fruit. There was an odd flavor to this one, and ...

The dry aroma on this tea is really interesting. It smells malty, and there's a general roasty aroma. It smells like something I have smelled before, but I cannot place the aroma.

The tea steeps to a light yellow amber color and I taste the same malty/roasty type scents from the aroma.

It's a little pricey,...

I originally had the review for this tea under Yezi's Jin Jun Mei, which is obviously incorrect. I am putting it in its proper place, as well as making an update.

Round 1: This tea has a lovely malty flavor. I wish I could pick out some additional aromas or flavors, but alas, I cannot.

I steeped this at 205 deg...

I definitely get that hint of wine in the description! And I got it BEFORE I read the description, so I am pretty happy about that!

I also smelled some honey aromas, but they didn't come through in the flavor. I also smelled something like vanilla. I thought this was an interesting tea, but it had a bitter finish...

This is so perfect for warm weather. It's a pretty dark pink shade, from the hibiscus, and the lemon flavor is really lovely and strong. I drank this hot, but I can already tell it will be excellent as a cold brew.

I do wonder why David's uses artificial flavorings. Artificial lime? Really? Because the real thi...

This tea didn't wow me. I could taste the autumnal spices, but I didn't think they were really strong enough. I believe a tea with cinnamon and cloves should have a good, strong flavor. I received this in a tea swap, and maybe it's just the wrong time to be drinking this, also. I think my mind is in spring-mode!

I am kind of mixed about this one. On it’s own, it tasted kind of plain, though I did get a little kick at the end. Then I looked up what it actually was and suddenly, I could taste a little cocoa.

So on the one hand, I feel like I should have been able to taste the flavors without knowing what it was. But maybe s...

This is yummy! It has a light strawberry flavor. I don’t pick up much cocoa, but I like it anyway. I did need to sweeten this with a little rock sugar to enjoy it more. Without sweetener, the strawberry didn’t pop!

Ancient Gan Tong Tea from Wild Tea Qi

I brewed this at 180 degrees using short intervals. It smelled very roasty, like a genmaicha. The best steeps were between 2 and 3 minutes. Shorter steeps didn't have enough flavor, and longer steeps had a sharp taste I didn't like. But in the goldilocks range, the tea had a pleasant aroma and flavor. I didn't tas...

This is only my 2nd tulsi tea, but I'm thinking that tulsi may not be my thing. I didn't enjoy the aroma or flavor much. I've seen people mention that tulsi can have a citrusy flavor, but I didn't pick up anything like that here.

I'm torn about this one. The aroma has an artificial, unpleasant note, but the tea actually tastes pretty good.

I brewed twice as much tea as was recommended based on feedback from other tea drinkers. I also added a little rock sugar. I think this is a decent dessert tea. It tastes like nutty bananas, but I don't g...

Thanks to Alex for this sample!

I made this as a dessert tea tonight and was really impressed by the flavor. Unsweetened, this was very good. The scent is also excellent and I felt like I was in a bakery when brewing this tea.

I added a little rock sugar, maybe a tsp or so, and then the flavors really came ali...

I thought this tea was pretty good. It didn't wow me, and I didn't pick up many nuances in aroma or flavor, but I didn't hate it. It seemed to match the name pretty well: Basic Black.

I have enough left for one cup, so I think I'll try it again with a little sugar and almond milk, just to see if the character c...

I'm a little disappointed in this tea. Not that it isn't good, because it is. But it tastes very similar to the Redberry Tonic, also by Davids Tea. The two smell and taste nearly the same to me. If I was blindfolded and given a sample of each tea, I don't think I could tell the difference.

I brewed this accordin...

Hifumi from Lupicia

May. 19th, 2014

This tea has the unmistakably roasty smell of genmaicha. It's made with ancient rice, brown rice and rice pops. The flavor is very good and I had a nice, warm fuzzy feeling as I was drinking this. That lasted until I read my emails at work and lost my happy tea buzz.

The tea was very enjoyable. Work is not.
