Organic Chamomile with Lavender from Traditional Medicinals
Style: Chamomile Blend – Region: Blend57 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 1/5
Jul. 27th, 2019
Directions say, "2 tea bags in a cup". While I appreciate the manufacturer's forthrightness in admitting one bag isn't enough to fill out the flavor, I also must ask, why, especially as expensive as a standard box is to start? How about simply dosing one bag with the full recommended pile of plant material instead? ...

Style: Wellness Tea / Medicinal Tea – Region: Blend68 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Jul. 23rd, 2019
Caveat: While tolerant of them in some combinations and contexts, I'm not a big fan of either lemon or ginger. Please take this rating in the context of assessing the nominal mix of two flavors that, while not repulsive to me, aren't particular favorites either.
When I do have ginger, I look for it to give a good...
Cranberry Apple Herbal Tea from Bigelow Tea
Style: Herbal Tea – Region: Blend63 / 100 Aroma: 5/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Jun. 27th, 2019
Most Bigelow teas I've tried, I've never bought, thanks to hotels, restaurants and conferences. This one was no exception. I don't care for cranberry as a flavor, so you wouldn't catch me plunking down even a couple bucks at the Wal-Mart clearance bin for any herbal tea named after cranberries. Fortunately there is ...

Style: Chai / Spiced Tea – Region: Blend74 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5
Jun. 13th, 2019
I love chai, so I tried Chai Love. It was one of the least chai-like of chais I've had, but yet, still strangely satisfying and tasty. It also had perhaps the greatest aromatic discrepancy I've encountered between dry-leaf, in-cup and wet-leaf scents.
The dry leaf is the most truly chai-like sensation (smell or t...
Earl Grey Crème Black Tea from Teavana
Style: Earl Grey Cream – Region: Blend87 / 100 Aroma: 9/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 4/5
May. 11th, 2019
This is my favorite Earl Grey Cream tea yet, and that's not a knock on Murchie's excellent rendition, which is a better value but just a notch below Teavana in richness.
Teavana has undergone a remaking of its marketing and strategy under the Starbucks banner: no more stand-alone tea shops, just 15-sachet plastic t...
Organic Bangkok (Green Tea with Coconut, Ginger and Vanilla) from Harney and Sons
Style: Flavored Green Tea – Region: Blend86 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 4/5
Apr. 19th, 2019
Mmmmmmm...delicious from the first dry-bag sniff through the cup and even in the aftertaste! Finally again, for only the second time in my experience: a coconut-flavored green tea that really is coconut-dominant, and since I enjoy coconut a lot, that's a good thing.
The best part is that the coconut flavor asser...
African Red Bush from Tazo Tea
Style: Flavored Rooibos – Region: Blend63 / 100 Aroma: 5/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Apr. 14th, 2019
Too bad this tea has been discontinued, because it's an acceptable (not great to the point of blowing one's mind, but pretty decent) take on rooibos/herbal blending. As with other rooibos teas I've tried, the first impression wasn't anything to brag about, but it grew on me after a few bags, and I came to appreciate i...

Being a sucker for all kinds of strong and/or spicy food and drink, I've grown quite fond of good chais, in all their wonderful variety of formulations. As such, my default will be to rate them fairly well unless they prove unfit for human consumption. This rates well. It's not up to par with most loose chais I've h...

Style: Chamomile Blend – Region: Blend69 / 100 Aroma: 5/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 4/5
Feb. 23rd, 2019
This tea gave me some peculiar impressions before ever pouring a drop down my throat. The dry-bag smell brought back vague yet unwelcome childhood memories of illness, and it took me a minute to figure out why. The dry aroma reminded me much of the 1970s formulation of Kaopectate diarrhea medicine—then a dense, sli...

Style: Fruit (Herbal) Tea – Region: Blend85 / 100 Aroma: 9/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 4/5
Feb. 18th, 2019
Citrus Sunrise easily can be called Orange Tangerine Zinger, if it weren't for a similarly named blend they already have. That's because it starts out with the same common-denominator ingredients as the CS Zinger line (rose hips, orange peel, hibiscus, hawthorn, blackberry leaves), and just boosts the orange part with...

Style: English Breakfast – Region: Blend68 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Feb. 10th, 2019
After bringing this breakfast tea home from a conference, I tried it at dinnertime while eating a tub of cottage cheese. The tea brewed up very dark, quickly, such that a spoon disappeared from view below about the top two inches of liquid. This wasn't too surprising, considering how finely chopped the dry-bag leaves...

Style: English Breakfast – Region: Blend76 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Jan. 20th, 2019
"Devonshire" has one of the most full-bodied dry-bag aromas I've gotten from a breakfast tea, and unusually, it nearly matches the flavor for intensity. I detected virtually no difference between dry-bag scent, in-cup scent, and taste, the latter likewise being straightforwardly well-constructed within a nice, dark br...

Style: Chamomile Blend – Region: Blend73 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Jan. 9th, 2019
Uncommonly in my admittedly limited tea-drinking experience, this was the second different bagged chamomile blend (as opposed to pure chamomile) from the same company—the first being "Relaxing Chamomile". This tea is decidedly chamomile-dominant in dry-bag, in-cup and wet-bag aromas, and despite not having the word...

Style: Flavored Black Tea – Region: Blend88 / 100 Aroma: 9/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 5/5
Dec. 28th, 2018
For a store-brand bagged tea, this seasonal offering was excellent! My immediate impression sniffing the dry bag was a striking resemblance to the flavor (not smell) of Good Earth's "Sweet and Spicy": very intense on cinnamon, with orange quite noticeable. However, unlike the Good Earth tea, this one has black tea (...

Dec. 25th, 2018
Until "Relaxing Chamomile", I hadn't chugged a chamomile tea with this many ingredients: at least seven. I say, "at least", because after chamomile, hawthorne berry, eleuthero, rose petals, natural blood orange flavor, and natural vanilla flavor, the final ingredient was, "other natural flavors", whatever that means....

Dec. 20th, 2018
Yet another culled from my sister-in-law's large and diverse organic/natural-tea collection, which has included a lot of Yogi teas, this is one of the better-tasting ones from either her clay jar or the Yogi teas I've tried.
The dry bag and in-cup aromas reminded me of a generic store-brand green tea with mild spea...
Earl Grey de la Crème from Trader Joe's
Style: Earl Grey Cream – Region: Blend75 / 100 Aroma: 9/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Dec. 10th, 2018
Given the ingredients list, here was a tea that caught both my eye and a few bucks of my credit-card balance, while stocking up at a Dallas Trader Joe's on some things I don't get in nearby Oklahoma markets.
Overall, it's not quite as high-quality as the other Earl Grey Creme tea I've tried (the bagged version from ...
Northwest Minty Green from Allegro
Style: Green Tea with Mint – Region: Blend66 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Nov. 26th, 2018
Here's the next entry in the dossier of Allegro teas obtained at one of our Colorado vacation stops. This is one of the few that I would consider ordering on its own merit...that is, if I weren't already dropping bags of inexpensive peppermint tea in with good green tea on occasion, to accomplish much the same result....

Mostly, this seemed like a straight chamomile tea, from the dry-bag and in-cup scents to the golden-tan color of the poured liquid. Despite all the fruits and herbs blended into the mix, as seen in the "Commercial Description" here onsite, chamomile still dominated all the aromas, taste and aftertaste, to such an exte...

Nov. 23rd, 2018
It seems like the few Tulsi teas I've tried so far have been paired in some way with ginger, regardless of other ingredients. This was no exception. The ingredients list explicitly states three kinds of Tulsi: Krishna, Rama, and Vana, two of which coincidentally were first names of sisters I knew in middle school who...

Nov. 20th, 2018
As of this writing, Teekanne appears to be marketing this tea under three names, depending on the online or geographic venue: "8 Herbs" via English-language Amazon, and in person at the German-food store I visited in the DFW area, "Mixed Herbs" on their English-language, European-based website, and "8 Kräuter" (Germa...

Since we're careening headfirst into the holidays, and folks are warming up their days with spicy and chai teas, I hope this and my other reviews of them will prove helpful. This is a Safeway store brand—relatively inexpensive as organic bagged teas go. After being resoundingly disappointed by their peppermint offe...

The title says that the herbal tea is well rested. Therefore I hope it conveys some of that placid nature to me as well. ;-)
In the meantime before bedtime, I did the usual dry-bag and in-cup sniffing prior to first chug, and generally was pleased at the result. While not intense, it was stronger and more balanc...
English Breakfast from Chado High Tea
Style: English Breakfast – Region: Blend52 / 100 Aroma: 3/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5
Nov. 9th, 2018
For a food-service tea, this seemed slightly above average...I've had worse, but wouldn't seek it out for home consumption. This is one that, if you spot it in a motel or (as I did) receive it as "hot tea" in a breakfast cafe off I-70 in Kansas, can be consumed safely and without obvious problems. I realize that's no...

Perusing the ingredients label, I expected a cinnamon-heavy chai without actual tea, and that's pretty much what this delivered at every level. The list of components is astoundingly short for a Yogi blend at 6 (organic) ingredients: cinnamon bark, ginger root, cardamom pod, clove bud, black pepper, and cinnamon oil....
