Chun Mee (Moon Palace) from Upton Tea Imports
Style: Chun Mee – Region: China80 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 5/5
Mar. 2nd, 2010
This tea got my attention with the first sip--another chun mee of unusual quality, like rodents of unusual size. Similar to ZG42 (Chun mee dao ming) in how inexpensive it is relative to its quality, but very different in character.
The aroma is very complex: significantly grassier than any other Chun Mee I've tried...

Island Green Loose Tea from Charleston Tea Plantation (American Classic Tea)
Style: Green Tea – Region: South Carolina, United States13 / 100 Aroma: 1/10 Flavor: 1/5 Value: 1/5
Feb. 26th, 2010
this tea was a major disappointment. was hoping it would be good! flat, tasteless. pale green, almost clear liquor, which is fine in a high quality tea, but this just lacked any vibrancy, life, or flavor.
while it was fun to get it, and have the tin, i wouldn't recommend this tea at all unless us want to say u trie...

Dragon Well pre-Qing Ming First Grade from Teas Etc
Style: Dragon Well (Long Jing) – Region: Zhejiang, China83 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 4/5
Feb. 26th, 2010
As a fan of pre-rain Dragon Well I am always anxious to find one with a good flavor for a reasonable price. This one is a great balance of flavor and aroma for a very good price considering it is a pre-Qing Ming tea.
I keep this one on hand throughout the year and look forward to the new harvest.

Organic KuKi Cha Green Kamakura from Upton Tea Imports
Style: Kukicha – Region: Kanagawa, Japan73 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Feb. 10th, 2010
The aroma of the dry tea is straw-like, but the brewed tea is a lot more like sencha, including a hint of the characteristic seaweed-like quality. In many ways it's typical for a Japanese green tea. There are a few woody tones in the aroma but they have a very different character from the woody qualities present in s...

Yunnan Green Supreme Organic from Upton Tea Imports
Style: Green Tea – Region: Yunnan, China73 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 3/5
Feb. 2nd, 2010
This tea has a pungent aroma unlike any other green tea I've sampled before. It reminds me of a hoppy beer like an India Pale Ale, and the bitterness in the tea is similar to that of a strong IPA. The aroma is more like a typical black tea than a green tea to me--I would probably guess incorrectly that it was black t...

Oliphant Estate OPA Green from Upton Tea Imports
Style: Green Tea – Region: Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka89 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 5/5
Feb. 1st, 2010
I have started to see enough of a pattern that I can at least suspect that I tend to like green teas from Sri Lanka.
The dry leaves of this tea are whole and very full, slightly curled, and dark green, and a few of the leaves have a reddish tinge. The dry leaves have a tobacco-like smell.
The cup is richly aroma...

Japanese Supersencha Kamakura from Upton Tea Imports
Style: Sencha – Region: Kanagawa, Japan83 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 4/5
Jan. 26th, 2010
This one surprised me; Upton threw it in as a free sample. I probably would have not bought it on my own because of the price, but now that I've tried it I think it offers pretty good value, although it is still expensive.
When brewed, this tea is opaque, less so than matcha but more so than most other sencha that ...

Java Green Gunpowder from Upton Tea Imports
Style: Gunpowder Green Tea – Region: Indonesia60 / 100 Aroma: 5/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 4/5
Jan. 11th, 2010
My first Indonesian tea sampled, and I was a bit disappointed, even though I like this style of tea.
This tea is considerably less smoky than most Chinese gunpowder teas I've had...only a moderate amount of smoke. It has a cool quality to the aroma, and a tangy flavor with some bitterness. More similar in all resp...

Bancha Hojicha from Choice Organic Teas
Style: Hojicha – Region: Japan70 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5
Jan. 8th, 2010
Pretty tasty, though minus the delectably smoky flavor of the Republic of Tea's green tea w. toasted rice. Brews quickly, often on sale at my local coop.

Vietnam Green Sencha from Upton Tea Imports
Style: Sencha – Region: Vietnam80 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 5/5
Jan. 2nd, 2010
I would not recognize this tea as sencha from either the appearance of the leaves or the aroma of the dried leaf or brewed cup. There's only a faint suggestion of the characteristic sencha aroma, barely emerging and then vanishing.
The aroma is vegetal, but less seaweedy than sencha, and more savory. Tastes more s...

Dragon Well (Anhui) from Rishi Tea
Style: Dragon Well (Long Jing) – Region: Anhui, China83 / 100 Aroma: 9/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5
Dec. 23rd, 2009
I loved this tea although I'm not usually crazy about green. It avoided the planty, health-food associations I usually make with green teas. Instead, there was a lovely, rather robust fragrance, almost floral. This is probably the one green that I will stock in my tea cupboard.

Thailand Bold Leaf Green Tea from Upton Tea Imports
Style: Green Tea – Region: Thailand80 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 5/5
Dec. 22nd, 2009
Very different from any other green tea I've tried. Spicy aroma, complex...some fruity qualities, but aroma is mostly of spice. Very full-bodied, rich in flavor...tangy and yet without being heavy or too sour. Not very bitter and only a little astringent. I'm not tasting the "maltiness" in the description.
Among...

Green Tea from Lipton Tea
Style: Green Tea – Region: ?????80 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 5/5
Dec. 17th, 2009
This is a cheap green tea in a bag, but for that exact thing you can't beat liptons. The flavour is great. 100 bag box can be had for about $5. Great deal and beats most bagged green tea.

Young Hyson from Upton Tea Imports

Dec. 17th, 2009
Lemony, tangy, almost like you added lemongrass or lemon flavoring. This was an interesting departure on one of my favorite types of green tea...it's recognizable as the style, but not in the way I expected. No smokiness, but still fresh tasting, although slightly less crisp. Much less bitter and astringent, and doe...

Dragon Well (Anhui) from Rishi Tea
Style: Dragon Well (Long Jing) – Region: Anhui, China73 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5
Dec. 17th, 2009
This was a very gentle green tea. Delicate aroma with a hint of toastiness; less grassiness than other dragonwells I've tried. This particular tea is extremely smooth and low in both bitterness and astringency even when I brewed it with water hotter than recommended...I also found it can be brewed much longer than Ri...

The People's Green Tea from Republic of Tea
Style: Green Tea – Region: ?????43 / 100 Aroma: 4/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 2/5
Dec. 8th, 2009
This tea had a muted quality to it, although it had a bolder tea presence than Republic's flavored green and white teas. Fairly smooth flavor, a few unpleasant qualities to the aroma, but not very bitter. Weak, overall, not very fresh tasting.

Lungching Green Tea from Foojoy
Style: Dragon Well (Long Jing) – Region: China67 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 5/5
Dec. 8th, 2009
While this pales in comparison to loose dragon well teas that I've tried, it's definitely true to the style. The low price and simple packaging of the teabags are deceptive...this tea retains a lot of complexity. It brews a rich golden color and is quite aromatic. If you let it brew a long time, it acquires some ast...

Green Tea from Twinings
Style: Sencha – Region: ?????23 / 100 Aroma: 2/10 Flavor: 1/5 Value: 1/5
Dec. 7th, 2009
I was disappointed by this one, and this is my least favorite tea from Twinings yet. If you brew it with boiling water, it's very astringent. With water at a lower temperature, it's not flavorful enough. The aroma is muddled...this tea, unfortunately, seems to have acquired the worst aspects of a Sencha without the ...

Green Tea from Ten Ren Tea

Very balanced and mild tea, with a clean, crisp aftertaste. Consistently delicious, but it may leave you craving a more robust tea (such as Ten Ren's Dragon Well). One of my standard go-to teas.

China Green Tips Filterbag from Tazo Tea
Style: Mao Feng Green Tea – Region: Zhejiang, China60 / 100 Aroma: 2/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 5/5
Dec. 4th, 2009
While not the most gourmet of teas, this tea is very easy to find at most grocery stores and Starbucks in metropolitan US areas.
Overall it has a good flavor, moderate in intensity, and rarely comes out bitter.
I like to brew this is very warm, but not hot water, for about 2.5-3 minutes.

Fascinating, unique. Brews clear green. The aroma is dark and warm, and un-tea-like...it is almost like a good soup, with subtle spices and cooked vegetables.
Following Upton's brewing instructions, the flavor is mellow, smooth, and warm in character, with almost no bitterness...but lacking the crispness I like in ...
