Decaf White Tea from Celestial Seasonings
Style: White Tea – Region: ?????47 / 100 Aroma: 4/10 Flavor: 2/5 Value: 4/5
Nov. 2nd, 2011
I got this at Trader Joe's last month. It's relatively weak so you'll need two bags in an 8-ounce cup and steep it for four-to-five minutes. Tastes a bit metallic but has a post-infusion aroma that is very pleasant. This tea is nothing special so I use it for blending. Good price, though!

I enjoy blending this with other teas, but it is good on its own, too. Great price.

A very light tea...aroma suggestive of rice and cereal. Muted flavor. A hint of wintergreen in the finish. Not terribly complex, however. I'm starting to get a sense for a particular character that Turkish teas have, and this was recognizable as such.
The leaf of this tea is so finely broken that it falls throug...
Black Pearl Tea from Lipton Tea
Style: Ceylon Black Tea – Region: Sri Lanka / Ceylon37 / 100 Aroma: 3/10 Flavor: 2/5 Value: 3/5

Taking garbage out of a plastic can and putting it into a golden can doesn't increase the value of the garbage. Lipton's attempt at polishing trash isn't fooling anyone.

I'd rather drink Oprah's bathwater filtered through a dirty gym sock than Lipton black tea. In the Navy, this is all we had. But during port visits, I visited every shop I could in order to find some drinkable black. Sometimes I won, sometimes I lost. Sometimes I drank coffee instead.

I didn't buy it (thank goodness) but I tried a bag at a friend's house. This infusion left a nasty, bitter taste on the back of my tongue like I licked my own underarm. The failure here is the attempt at making the honey come forth during the infusion. It doesn't work. Use it for compost.

Bought a box of this from Smart & Final about three years ago. At that point, ANYTHING was better than Lipton so even Bromley looked exotic to me. Not all bad, but very generic. Took two bags to get a good 8-ounce cuppa. Kind of a rustic, tannic mid-palette that is strange but appealing.

This tea was surprisingly interesting and complex for a tea bag. I brewed it for about 5 minutes, using only about 6 ounces of water, and it was just about the right strength. It produced a very dark cup, but a relatively clear quality.
Aroma is fresh, crisp, and almost peppery, but more like black pepper than oth...
Yunnan Silvertip Green Tea from Upton Tea Imports
Style: Green Tea – Region: Yunnan, China24 / 100 Aroma: 3/10 Flavor: 1/5 Value: 1/5

Something tasted very off about this tea. Dry leaf has a very strong aroma of camphor, to the point that it's unpleasant.
My friend Evan and I tried gong fu brewing with this tea and the results were poor. The camphor quality dominated, and, while the tea was certainly somewhat interesting, it wasn't among the mos...
Creme au Chocolat from Tiesta Tea
Style: Flavored Black Tea – Region: Blend37 / 100 Aroma: 4/10 Flavor: 2/5 Value: 1/5

Aroma of the dry leaf suggests a syrupy-sweet chocolate...it makes me wonder if the chocolate chips used also contain liberal amounts of vanilla or some other flavoring. There even seems to be a hint of candied cherry in the aroma. I can't smell the base tea. Not much true chocolate / cocoa in the aroma.

Lotus Wisdom from ShanTea
Style: Wellness Tea / Medicinal Tea – Region: Blend63 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5
Oct. 31st, 2011
This blend is uncannily similar to Bigelow's sweet dreams, with its combination of peppermint, hibiscus, and chamomile. It brews a deep red color and has a complex, distinctive aroma that strongly evokes my memories associated with Bigelow's tea.
This tea, however, is considerably edgier...it has some bite to it, a...

This tea is pretty good. It doesn't have a very strong aroma. The mate adds a nice sweet flavor to the tea. I added cream and sugar.

This tea is pretty good. It has a nice smoky aroma, but it's too weak, and on the verge of being too bitter, like other Twinings black teas I've tasted. I really like the smoky flavor, though. I added cream and sugar.

I've been served this blend several times now at a friend's house, and I am solidly impressed. This is probably my favorite flavored rooibos or rooibos blend yet. Quite strikingly, the aroma is very natural...there's a complete absence of anything remotely artificial.
The aroma is very pleasing...slightly chocolat...
Original Tulsi Tea from Organic India
Style: Tulsi / Holy Basil – Region: India77 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5

I used to grow Tulsi on my windowsill, and missed the lemony fresh brew that the dried leaves used to make. It was always a soothing, calming sup of calmness that I looked forward to. I found these teabags of a blend of Tulsi at my local Whole Foods Supermarket, and have found them to be a worthy addition to my cupboar...

Excellent example of a Chinese Green from Hubei, that is both smooth and refreshing. I first tried this a number of years ago, then again recently based on Alex Zorach's review. He hits it on the nose when he describes it of being "simultaneously clean and rich tasting."
One of the things I like about Rishi's teas i...
British Blend - Premium Black Tea - Decaffeinated from Tetley Tea
Style: Black Tea – Region: Blend70 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Oct. 29th, 2011
This is my bedtime tea. Every single night without fail. It's become such a routine for me that trying any other tea would likely interrupt my sleep patterns! The decaff version of the British Blend is less bitter than its big brother, allowing me to infuse it with a dash of honey to taste.

When it comes to basic black tea, Tetley British Blend is the base of most of my blending. It's also the one tea that I drink every single night before bedtime (decaff without milk). Lovely aroma, moderately bitter. I spice it with a touch of honey sometimes. Great value as well.

Not my favourite Oolong brand, but it's always fresh and has a buttery flavour which is very appealing to me. The problem is that if you over-steep it, it tastes like a mouthful of dirty grass mingled with an odour of cat pee.

Oct. 28th, 2011
This is my daily go-to tea. I probably drink 3-5 bags a day. I even use it to blend with other teas. I suggest a Bigelow or Prince of Peace Oolong, a Tetley British Blend pouch along with a Constant Comment in a 10-ounce mug steeped to about five minutes (but remove the Oolong bag after two minutes or it will dominate ...

I can't quite decide how I feel about this tea. It sort of hovers on the line between really good and completely off. I like that it brews really dark. Usually with Celestial Seasonings teas, I have to leave the teabag in for like 10 minutes, but this one took just a couple of minutes. It has this nice roasted flavor, ...

I normally am not a fan of blueberry in herbal teas, but I tend to like Teavana's fruity blends so I gave this one a try. I was impressed.

Scottish Breakfast (Loose Leaf) from Edinburgh Tea and Coffee Company
Style: Scottish Breakfast – Region: Blend67 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 3/5
Oct. 26th, 2011
Dry leaf is obvious CTC, finely broken. Upon brewing, however, I am more impressed with this tea. Brews an opaque light brown color, light in color for a black tea of this strength and body.
I recommend a 1 minute infusion, as this tea infuses very quickly.
Very full-bodied tea, rich and heavy. Aroma is comple...
Peppermint Guayusa from Runa
Style: Flavored Guayusa – Region: Blend50 / 100 Aroma: 5/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 2/5
Oct. 24th, 2011
I actually thought this tea had a rather subdued peppermint presence, and I noticed the guayusa more than the mint, which is good. I did not think the two flavors blended particularly well with each other though...the mint seemed to obscure or cloud the Guayusa and vice versa.
The aroma was muddled, the flavor mild...
Camomile from Ronnefeldt
Style: Chamomile Blend – Region: ?????57 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 3/5
Oct. 24th, 2011
This chamomile was actually a little bit unusual or atypical. It was full-bodied and rich, but a little bland, and had an unusually smooth flavor. There was less fruitiness, less of the hay or straw-like aroma, less of the lacy floral quality, and less of the muted bitter aftertaste that characterizes chamomile tea i...
