Premium Green Decaf Tea from Stash Tea
Style: Green Tea – Region: China80 / 100 Aroma: 10/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 4/5
Apr. 18th, 2017
The freshly-opened teabag has a strong smell when dry, which is unusual for a decaf. Even though it isn't particularly complex, the aroma is fresh and grassy.
The tea brews into a dark amber-green and smells very vegetal, like freshly harvested asparagus. Both color and aroma remind me of the "special gunpowder" gre...
Green Valley from teakruthi
Style: Green Tea – Region: Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka84 / 100 Aroma: 9/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 5/5
Apr. 18th, 2017
This a solid quality green tea that resteeps well several times. The leaves start off coiled and they expand each time, so not a lot of tea is needed for a tasty cup. Be sure not to over brew it for the best flavor.

Style: Chun Mee – Region: China69 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Apr. 5th, 2017
Enjoyable but not amazing, not really standing out much among this style of tea. Smoother and less acidic than the norm for chun mee, but also perhaps a bit more boring too.
The dry leaf has a dusty vegetal aroma, slightly smoky, with a few sweet notes, kind of what I'd expect from this type of tea.
Brewed, this...
Green Tea Decaffeinated from Twinings
Style: Green Tea – Region: ?????30 / 100 Aroma: 4/10 Flavor: 2/5 Value: 1/5
Apr. 4th, 2017
This is one of the weakest decaf greens that I've tried. It brews up with a darker color than even many caffeinated teas, but the flavor and aroma remind me of dry hay. It tastes and smells slightly vegetal, but is nondescript and uninteresting.
I'm actually surprised that this tea is so bad. Twinings isn't exactly ...
Organic Dragon Well Tea from Wei-Chuan
Style: Dragon Well (Long Jing) – Region: China75 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 5/5
Apr. 4th, 2017
The tea in the sachets is a mixture of broken and whole leaves, so the first appearance is of tea that would be mediocre if sold loose. The dry tea is quite fragrant, though, smelling fresh and grassy.
I typically steep green tea at 170° for four minutes. With decent quality tea, this generally gives a comfortable ...
Green Tea Decaffenated (Classic) from Bigelow Tea
Style: Green Tea – Region: ?????60 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 4/5
Apr. 3rd, 2017
It's apparently easier to decaffeinate green tea and still have some flavor than it is black tea. One thing I've learned about decaf greens, though, is to use hotter water than one would for the caffeinated varieties. Conventional wisdom for green tea is to use cooler water and shorter steeping times to keep from cooki...

Style: Bancha – Region: Japan82 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Mar. 29th, 2017
This may be the best bancha I've ever tried. It's better than a number of lower-end sencha's I've bought in the U.S.
The dry leaf is green for bancha and has the most delightful aroma, the best yet of any bancha I've tried. It smells a lot like coffee cake, a sort of sweet, baked good smell with hints of cinnamon,...
Emerald Green from The Tao of Tea
Style: Green Tea – Region: Fujian, China80 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 5/5
Mar. 19th, 2017
Also known as "San Bei Xiang" or "Three Cups" because of the different fragrances this tea provides with each infusion. I'm a little confused about the origin because the website says it is from Ningde in Fujian province but the tin I bought says it is from Zhejiang province. Perhaps Tao of Tea switched locations it ...

I'm not a fan of the "grassy" flavored green teas, and this one has that fresh scent without reminding me of newly mown grass. The flavor is medium bodied, when I steep for 3-4 minutes, not overpowering or bitter, A nice green tea for a mostly black and oolong drinker

Not being experienced specifically with Sencha varieties of green tea, I didn't know what to expect when grabbing a box of this to bring home from Austria. [This tea is sold in SPAR supermarkets, fairly ubiquitous over a lot of Europe and available online.]
I just figured, "organic green tea, should be good". An...
Bilouchun Green Tea from Tea King of China (Starway)
Style: Bi Luo Chun – Region: Jiangsu, China75 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Mar. 14th, 2017
This is presumably the same tea that the previous reviewers tasted, but it's packaged in individual 6g pouches (24 packets totalling 150g). At $10, I paid a little more than the previous reviewers did, as well.
That said, this is now one of my favorite green teas. I find it best with a long steep in cooler water (4-...
Mythical Green from teakruthi
Style: Green Tea – Region: Uva, Sri Lanka80 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Feb. 22nd, 2017
I like this tea. :-) Its flavor reminds me of green teas I had while living in Japan. The tea doesn't go bitter too easily, and it does a great job infusing multiple times. I've gotten four decent cups out of a teaspoon worth of dry leaf. This is no doubt partly due to their being curled. The leaves expand quite a bit.

I reacted to this very similarly to how I did to Teakruthi's other green tea, the Green Valley. I thought it tasted like a good but inexpensive Chinese green tea, and as such I'd be unlikely to buy it because it was so expensive. It didn't stand out and especially did not seem on the level of Chinese teas in this pr...

Style: Sencha – Region: Sri Lanka / Ceylon50 / 100 Aroma: 4/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 2/5
Jan. 30th, 2017
The last of the Basilur teas I picked up at a friend's wedding, and unfortunately, one of the least satisfying.
The tea bag didn't smell great, but upon brewing I was surprised by a more pleasing aroma. Like other lower-quality senchas I've tried, and somewhat like bancha, this one had a distinct corn aroma.

Organic Green Dragon from Mighty Leaf Tea
Style: Dragon Well (Long Jing) – Region: China67 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 2/5
Jan. 17th, 2017
I was eager to try this because it was the only pure green tea in tea bags sold by Mighty Leaf, other than their hojicha which is roasted and does not taste at all like a green tea.
I wasn't crazy about this tea; if I had to divide all dragon wells into "good dragonwell" vs. "bad dragonwell" this one almost falls be...
Green Valley from teakruthi
Style: Green Tea – Region: Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka70 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 2/5
Jan. 17th, 2017
I enjoyed this tea but thought it the most overpriced of Teakruthi's offerings so far.
Dry leaf smells quite good, like a Chinese tea, a little vegetal and slightly floral, suggesting of a slight edge. It reminds me of chun mee both in smell and appearance, but is more vegetal.
I like this tea but it can get ove...
Kagoshima (Kagoshima Sencha) from Harney and Sons
Style: Sencha – Region: Kagoshima, Japan80 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 4/5
Jan. 9th, 2017
I usually think of tea as being more about the aroma than the flavor, but this tea was intensely flavorful, and I thought its flavor was what made it most interesting and enjoyable.
This tea was very similar overall to the Organic Sencha also sold by Harney & Sons. The main difference I noticed initially was that t...
Emperor's Clouds and Mist Green Tea from Teavana
Style: Clouds & Mist (Yun Wu) – Region: China90 / 100 Aroma: 9/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 5/5
Dec. 29th, 2016
This is a very nice tea. The trick is to rein in it's flavor, because it is VERY strong.
I typically brew half the amount of leaf I would normally. Cast iron, 1.5 - 2 minutes. Keep water cooler (75-80*C).
1st steep: Vegetal and grassy with a hint of sweetness and a touch of smokiness. An intense freshness.

An unopened and sealed box of 20 bags was available at an estate sale, so I grabbed it with no particular expectations. It delivered no particular impression, so I guess you can say expectations were met! :-)

I just received a package of this Kukicha today, and immediately decided to give it a go.
Lately I've been brewing in a pseudo-gong fu style...using a lidded tasting set as my gaiwan (actually works quite well). But I recently ordered a couple of gaiwans that should be here soon.

Houjicha Tea from Mood & Mind

I love the quality of the wellness products available at Mood & Mind.
So a while back when I found that they offered a few teas, I immediately ordered their Houjicha.
I was not disappointed. Roasted leaves and twigs smell subtle but also rich.

This is a really nice green tea. Pretty mellow throughout, but with a nice crisp finish that sets it apart from other types of greens. Nice clean mouthfeel, not much lingering going on. I get a nice quenching feeling I find uncommon with a hot cup of tea.

As a bagged tea, this is one of the better ones that I have had in 4-5 years. It keeps surprising me. Yes, its wonderful! Herbaceous, green grassy flavour. I found a perky-ness to its aroma, good going Stash. Wondering if it is Japanese tea?
