Rooibos Tea from Frontier
Style: Rooibos – Region: South Africa75 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 5/5
Mar. 6th, 2022
I bought a one-pound mylar bag of Frontier rooibos and transferred it to a couple of airtight jars. While recognizably rooibos, the contents of this bag have an extra note of oregano.
I brewed 5g in 16 ounces of boiling water. The oregano aroma is pronounced. It's good, but less nutty and sweet than I'm used to. I d...
Bulk Spearmint Leaf, Cut & Sifted, Organic from Frontier
Style: Spearmint Tea – Region: ?????95 / 100 Aroma: 10/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 5/5
Feb. 27th, 2022
I love spearmint herbal tea, but it's usually only available as a blend with peppermint. The only pure spearmint that I've been able to find locally in tea bags is Traditional Medicinals and they've been out of stock at the store where I buy them. I normally don't buy bulk because it's often stale, but since I was orde...

Style: Irish Breakfast – Region: India81 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Mar. 21st, 2021
This tea was spot-on in terms of style for Irish Breakfast, and one of the better examples of it at that.
The leaf is broken but the pieces of leaf are still recognizable as such, especially after steeping. The dry leaf has a pleasant aroma that suggests a strong, fresh tea. It infuses fairly quickly to produce a po...
Kumaon Black Tea from Frontier
Style: Black Tea – Region: Kumaon, India79 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Mar. 14th, 2021
I've been curious about teas from the Kumaon region of India for some time, but had yet to get my hands on one until now. What a surprise when the local food co-op got this in stock in their display of Frontier's bulk teas and spices!
The leaf is very fine, and strongly aromatic. The still-rather-intact leaf is tiny...
Kumaon Black Tea from Frontier
Style: Black Tea – Region: Kumaon, India86 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 5/5
Mar. 14th, 2021
This tea is definitely very unique but super tasty. It kind of tastes like dried fruit and it’s a little spicy but not super harsh or anything. If you’re looking for an interesting yet tasty tea that’s different from your average breakfast tea, try this!

I am a little confused about the labeling of this tea. It says it is high grown but the tea I have had from Ceylon that is grown at 6000 feet is usually a lot lighter in color and not quite as bold in taste. This tea is fairly dark in color and very bold in flavor. It actually taste like a blended tea or a lower grown ...

The dry tea is very aromatic and smells of raisins and cherries, being much fruitier than other Assams that I've tried. The brewing tea smells of malt and oak leaves, but has a lighter aroma than I was expecting from the dry tea
Four minutes in boiling water resulted in a very strong, rich cup of tea with balanced b...
Ceylon Black Tea (Orange Pekoe) High Grown from Frontier
Style: Ceylon Black Tea – Region: Sri Lanka / Ceylon90 / 100 Aroma: 10/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 5/5
Aug. 26th, 2017
I found this tea in the bulk section of a health food store. I've never tried Frontier tea, mostly because I don't trust bulk jars. The jar lids were tight and the teas smelled fresh, though, so I bought an ounce each of several to try. Based on this first sample, I'll likely be buying more.
The dry tea smells stron...
Frontier Organic White Peony from Frontier
Style: White Peony Tea – Region: ?????47 / 100 Aroma: 5/10 Flavor: 2/5 Value: 2/5
Jan. 17th, 2017
I was not impressed with this one. I'm not sure if it was the low quality of tea though, or if it was simply not very fresh at the store where it was sold. I wish Frontier had more of a mechanism in place for ensuring freshness in the bulk tea kiosks they have in natural food stores, because I sometimes have a proble...

Style: Se Chung Oolong – Region: ?????47 / 100 Aroma: 5/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 1/5
Dec. 7th, 2015
A mediocre tea, disappointing among Se Chung oolongs, a fairly broad group of oolongs that I tend to enjoy a lot.
Dry leaf looks unusual for Se Chung oolongs, the leaves are mostly in long, twisted shapes like Wuyi oolongs, unlike the tightly-rolled shapes of Tie Guan Yin and other Anxi oolongs. The leaf is fairly ...
China Black (Orange Pekoe) Organic from Frontier
Style: Black Tea – Region: China37 / 100 Aroma: 4/10 Flavor: 2/5 Value: 1/5
Nov. 29th, 2015
I brewed this tea multiple times and it consistently disappointed me.
The dry leaf of this tea, which is quite broken, had a weak aroma that reminded me of a fresh loaf of rye bread at a mediocre deli.
When water hit the leaves, the aroma developed into an array of light smokiness, deep vegetal notes, and fruitin...
Ceylon Black Tea (Orange Pekoe) High Grown from Frontier
Style: Ceylon Black Tea – Region: Sri Lanka / Ceylon87 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 5/5
Nov. 17th, 2015
My favorite tea from Frontier yet, I thought this a top-quality black tea and one of the better Ceylons I've sampled from any company.
The dry leaf is quite beautiful, and has a mild but pleasant aroma of malt and spice that is lighter and cooler than most malty teas.
Upon brewing, the aroma becomes a bit dusty, ...

A jasmine tea with a bold green tea flavor and relatively subtle jasmine fragrance. Very different in character from most jasmine teas, but enjoyable.
Leaf is pretty finely broken, grayish green, and slightly curved, looking a lot like lower grades of chun mee.
The aroma of the brewed cup has only a modest jasmi...
Lemon Verbena Cut & Sifted from Frontier
Style: Lemon Verbena – Region: Paraguay67 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 2/5 Value: 4/5

I like lemon verbena very much, and I find it a pleasant change of pace from other lemon-scented herbal teas. This batch was unusually bold in flavor, but its aroma was similar to other lemon verbena: lemony without being overwhelmingly so.
Aroma suggests lemon, gingerbread, and is also mildly vegetal and herbaceou...
Earl Grey Tea from Frontier
Style: Earl Grey Tea – Region: Blend67 / 100 Aroma: 5/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5

I thought this Earl Grey was pretty good. It had a nice lemoney flavor, which seemed stronger to me than other Earl Greys. I didn't care for the peppery smell.

I'm used to drinking iced herbal tea brewed from fresh lemon balm, or from my own dried batches of the herb, which I dry in whole-leaf form. This herb was pretty finely broken, and had a pretty different flavor and aroma.
The aroma is only very mildly lemony, much less so than my own batches of the herb, but it's v...
Chai Tea from Frontier
Style: Chai / Spiced Tea – Region: ?????67 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 4/5

A very peppery, spicy chai that with a surprisingly mild base tea.
The leaf is very finely broken, which made me afraid that this one would be too strong, but I find the black tea used as the base is very mild. I don't know where it's from, but it reminds me of some of the milder high-grown Ceylon teas.

This tea was very fresh when I picked it up. Dry leaf is largeish pieces of broken orthodox tea, with a pleasant aroma, typical of black tea but with hints of cinnamon and wintergreen, a good sign!
Brews a very dark color. Very aromatic, and with a very smooth flavor! Only slightly malty, balanced with fruity qua...
Chai Tea from Frontier
Style: Chai / Spiced Tea – Region: ?????80 / 100 Aroma: 9/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5

This tea is very aromatic. Even the dry leaf, inside a zip lock bag, emanates its aroma. I like the blend of spices. The flavor is a little more spicy than I'd like relative to the strength of the tea, but overall, I like it. I added cream and sugar.

A drinkable and inexpensive green tea with a mild flavor. I tried this shortly after Wegmans' bancha; the leaf of this tea is more intact, but the dry leaf is not particularly aromatic. I prefer Wegmans' offering even though it is more broken.
Brews a golden color cup with a lot of dust at the bottom. Mild aroma....
Indian White Tea from Frontier
Style: White Tea – Region: Kerala, India60 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 2/5 Value: 3/5

Dry leaf is beautiful, but not very aromatic. Looks like a bai mu dan (white peony) by leaf shape and size, but a shou mei by the darker leaf color.
Upon brewing, there's a fleeting suggestion of lemon in the aroma, but when I drink it, the flavor and aroma are subdued. Aroma is mostly of caramel and autumn leaves...

I've had a few cups of this herbal tea over the past couple days, and I've been satisfied each brew. The dried leaf had a pleasant grassy smell and I enjoyed the springy texture - it was pretty fun to put in my tea infuser! The flavor had a subtle sour taste to it, but I enjoyed it.
I was especially happy with t...

This tea is good. It started out tasting weak, but as I got further down in the cup it started tasting pretty good. I added cream and sugar.
