Chardwar Estate FTGFOP1 Assam Organic from Upton Tea Imports
Style: Assam – Region: Assam, India60 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 2/5 Value: 5/5
Jun. 27th, 2025
This is a decent, budget-priced Assam. It lacks the full, malty flavor that a first-rate Assam should have, but it is not bad. A little thin and mild, but perfectly drinkable.

Kenilworth Estate OP from Upton Tea Imports

Jun. 27th, 2025
This is a smooth, easy to drink Ceylon tea. It is versatile - it goes well with milk or lemon, and it would probably be just fine on ice. The aroma is pleasantly earthy. You can't go wrong by choosing this.

Steep English Breakfast Fair Trade Certified Black Tea from Bigelow Tea
Style: English Breakfast – Region: Sri Lanka / Ceylon78 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 4/5
Jun. 4th, 2025
Surprisingly, this was one of the smoothest and most pleasant flavor experiences I've had with bagged black Ceylon tea, and perhaps Bigelow's best in that category. How much of that resulted from a baseline of lower expectations? Admittedly, most of the "Steep" line hasn't impressed me much, especially considering th...

Naturally Decaffeinated Tea from Bromley Tea
Style: Black Tea – Region: ?????69 / 100 Aroma: 4/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 4/5
May. 23rd, 2025
Likely, I'll never rate a decaf black tea in the upper 20%, simply because the processes involved usually strip away aroma and flavor and add some sort of unnatural (usually metallic) tinge to the taste. Imagine my surprise, then, when this decaf tasted rather smooth and moderately strong, with only the very faintest ...

The aroma is sweet, solid Ceylon aroma. The liquor (5 min steep) is a deep brown. Flavor is good, and has a distinct fruit taste ( I get peaches). Overall a good Ceylon. I would add this tea to my regular rotation.

Strong smoky aroma. The liquor (5 min steep) is a brownish red. There are cherry notes that linger as an after taste. This tea might be a good pairing with dessert. I would use it for all day sipping.

Organic Darjeeling Estate from Mighty Leaf Tea

Apr. 8th, 2025
Finally, after trying several Darjeeling teas, I think I've finally found one that expresses how they're supposed to taste. Most of them, in my relatively limited experience so far, have been "off" in some way: flat, or metallic, or weak, or muddy, or "old" tasting, or just ordinary and nothing special (like a lot of...

Oi Ocha Green Tea from ITO EN
Style: Green Tea – Region: Japan79 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 4/5
Apr. 6th, 2025
ITO EN's Oi Ocha has become my favorite straight Japanese green tea pretty quickly. It was one of my favorites of several teas in my daughter's pantry in Bangkok, on decent water (reverse-osmosis filtration of the otherwise risky city tap water), and seems even better on my mineralized but filtered well water at home....

Style: Darjeeling Black Tea – Region: Darjeeling, India58 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 3/5
Mar. 30th, 2025
For starters, I don't know the current availability status of this tea, or if it is the same as the original Tazo Darjeeling, which was not called "Regenerative Organic" and which has been retired for several years, at least. It apparently made a comeback or new beginning in this form, and clearly is in contemporary T...

Yellow Label Tea from Lipton Tea
Style: Black Tea – Region: Blend50 / 100 Aroma: 5/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 3/5
Feb. 18th, 2025
I got this tea at an eatery in Bangkok, and also from my daughter who lives there, and brought a bag home to try on the same well water in which I've reviewed other teas here. I'm not convinced it was worth hauling back its couple grams of dry weight in the suitcase.
In every way, this tea struck me as essentiall...

Morning Storm Tea from TWG Tea
Style: Black Tea – Region: Blend75 / 100 Aroma: 9/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5
Feb. 11th, 2025
This is the first of a handful of loose teas I purchased, for somewhat of a high price (even in the otherwise favorable baht/USD conversion), at TWG's nicely done Emporium Mall store in Bangkok. Now that I'm home, they'll be rotated in behind teas being used up.
Admittedly, I got Morning Storm mainly for the name, ...

I was curious to try this. I associate Japan with twig teas, tea mixed with puffed rice, green teas, and matchas, and I never heard of Wakocha before - so this is something new for me. It is a good black tea, not as premium as the price may indicate, but not bad at all. It has a lightly astringent, earthy flavor, and...

Pure White Tea from Twinings

Jan. 11th, 2025
It's cool when the host of an AirBnB leaves a variety of teas, and even cooler when one is a new tea for me to try.
Unfortunately, even for white tea, this was underwhelming overall. The dry-bag aroma may have been the best part: mild, but somewhat floral, yet distinctively tea-dominant, as if this would be a del...

Radiant Green from Teavana

Dec. 23rd, 2024
How can a green tea be radiant? Is it radioactive, glowing green? Fortunately, the answer is, "No. It's just a name."
This is another in a line of Teavana bagged teas that now come with fairly typical folded bag, string and tag, and is overpriced by a factor of two to three for what one gets, on most sites wher...

Baker Street Blend from Murchie's Tea & Coffee Ltd
Style: Green and Black Tea Blend – Region: Blend62 / 100 Aroma: 5/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Nov. 17th, 2024
This is such a daring mix of different tea types that it's hard to believe the blend is over 100 years old, instead of a seasonal or experimental offering. Baker Street (per Murchie's website) is the same as their popular and longstanding No. 10 Blend, but with one tea added: Lapsang Souchong. So in total, the blend...

Another bagged offering arrives from Teavana's latest comeback push, which finds its teas (including this one) in late 2024 in online stores like Wal-Mart, Target, Amazon, and even Staples (where the price was lowest as of this writing, but still around $12 for a 24-ct box).

Here's the latest in a long line of Murchie's teas commemorating assorted milestones in the modern history of the British royal family—in this case, the ascension of Charles to the throne. Is this a tea worthy of a king? While not their best such black-tea blend, I'd wager His Highness would be satisfied to drink t...

I really enjoyed this tea, although it was not my favorite-of-all-favorites. It grew on me somewhat as I drank it more. I'd put it towards the category of "my least favorite among my most favorite types of tea" if that makes sense? Like it breaks into the top category but only barely.

The aroma is pleasant and bready , it has a good classic black tea smell. The taste is good however slightly on the mellow side. It has a good thick bodied richness to it. Overall it’s a pretty decent cup of tea and it is a good value because for a high end tea it’s pretty cheap!

Himalayan from Murchie's Tea & Coffee Ltd

My first Nepalese tea was a pleasant experience, but only after a little trial and error. First, the aroma: a good bit milder than the flavor, but pleasant, earthy, and floral, as if in a freshly watered flower garden with just a few active blooms of marigold or carnation wafting their scents airborne.
The first...
