Darjeeling (Teabags) from Whittard of Chelsea
Style: Darjeeling Black Tea – Region: Darjeeling, India69 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Dec. 3rd, 2023
The photo is from Whittard's website where (as of this writing) 50 round, stringless bags sell for USD $9.50, not too bad for what I presume to be a decent-quality Darjeeling. [They also sell loose-leaf Darjeeling.] Mine came from a 5-bag sampler pack, each bag being of the fold-over type stapled to a string and tag....

Colombian Breakfast Blend Organic from Upton Tea Imports

I was not expecting much, since I had tried another Colombian tea from Upton that was not good at all, but this was a pleasant surprise. The flavor is complex and plays around on the palate, with notes of fresh bread and malty tannins. The price is right too - I would get this again. I had this breakfast tea style, ...

This has a lot of woodsmoke/cigar tobacco in the aroma and the flavor. There is a something else in there too, some woody and savory notes, enough so that I began to wonder if I was drinking some kind of sausage beverage and not a tea (lol). But this black dragon is all about the smoke, which is something that I enjoy...

This is a light and easy Darjeeling which tastes fine, but is a little lacking in body and flavor. It blends well with milk or lemon. The lightly sweet, earthy aroma of the tea leaves is its best point. Despite the impressive name, this is a pretty ordinary tea, and sells for an average price.

Organic Nilgiri Black Tea from Trader Joe's
Style: Black Tea – Region: Nilgiri, India65 / 100 Aroma: 5/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5

This was a strange black tea, in that the in-cup and dry-bag aroma differed more from the flavor than the great majority of black teas I've had. As it turns out, that's a good thing, because the aroma wasn't bad—just weak and weird. The smells were reminiscent of something I don't often associate with tea: mild ch...

I am very happy with this so far. Upton has a number of good, reasonably priced breakfast blends, and this is one of them--so far, I have very positive feelings about it. The aroma is fresh and sweet, and reminds me of pipe tobacco. It is a medium-bodied blend, with a nutty, bready flavor. It is pretty smooth overa...

This was one of the better teas I've bought in-person in a long time, and was quite delicious, but was still disappointing, especially in terms of value, relative to similar teas I have bought online, particularly in that it did not resteep well.
I bought this tea at a Local Vietnamese Grocery Store. The dry leaf lo...

The aroma reminds my of wheat toast with a slight sweetness (grapes?) in the background. The liquor is a pleasant clear brown (5 min steep). The flavor is very enjoyable, with an almost dueling after taste, peppery with a hint of sweet. I am going to enjoy this tea.

Lovely seaweedy and nutty flavour. The tea leaves are very delicate and when steeped they show a nice vibrant green colour. Due to the small leaves the flavour releases quickly. I steeped 5 grams of this tea in a gaiwan for 10 seconds for the first 3 steeps and afterwards I increased it gradually. Could enjoy around 12...

Steeped 5 gram of this green tea at 85ºC for 10 seconds in a gaiwan for the first 3 steeps, and afterwards, I gradually increased the steeping time by 5 seconds per steep. Unlike like green teas such as maofeng and anjibai, this green tea is savoury and robust with sweet, nutty, and vegetal notes. Excellent value for ...

I bought a box of 25 tea bags in an Asian grocery store. The bags are individually sealed in foil and filled with finely chopped pieces of tea. Upon opening the foil pouch, the tea smells recognizably as a roasted oolong.
The brewed tea is unremarkable, but it tastes quite nice. It has a mild bitterness that is bala...

Here's still another quality green-black blend from Murchie's, who has a large menu of them and seems to have mastered the apparently delicate art. The blend also is over a century old too, with an interesting history: a custom job originally prepared by company founder James Murchie for Laura Dunsmuir, wife of James...

The aroma, for me, reminds me of menthol. Think 'Vics vapo rub'. The medicine like aroma is unusual. The aroma is present in the liquor. I first came across Arbor Teas here on RT, decided to give them a try, and I'm glad I did. This is a bright, drinkable Ceylon. It is cut rough, and has a fresh, smooth, lightly fruity flavor. I found it enjoyable with either milk or lemon and sugar, and I am confident it would be good on ice too. The 7 oz bags are b...

This tea has a mild aroma that reminds me of an Assam. The liquor (5 min steep) produces a deep rich brown color. The flavor, matches the aroma, mild Assam like. Slight maltiness. This would a good 'sip all day' choice. Might be too mild for milk or sugar.

Here's yet another in a parade of marginally different green/black blends offered by Murchie's, all of which have pleased my nasal passages and taste buds nicely on the way inside. I picked up a little can of this inexpensive matcha at a Chinese food shop, and was pleasantly surprised. It is smooth and drinkable, with a bit of fresh grain and rice in the flavor. I have had some low-cost matchas that are bitter and cheap tasting, but this is not bad at all.
