Honey Vanilla Chamomile from Celestial Seasonings
Style: Chamomile Blend – Region: ?????73 / 100 Aroma: 10/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 3/5
Feb. 21st, 2010
This tea has the most wonderful smell, but the taste is weak, even after a long time steeping. Still, it's a nice relaxing tea.

Lichee Black Tea from Foojoy
Style: Lychee Black Tea – Region: China60 / 100 Aroma: 5/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 5/5
Feb. 20th, 2010
Pleasantly fruity, yet with a black tea that has some presence. The aroma suggests sweetness but this tea can get quite bitter. Not the most complex tea but it is well-balanced and enjoyable.
As with Foojoy's other teas, this one is unparalleled among teabag teas of this price. I recommend a brief (1-2 min.) infu...

Organic Pai Mu Tan from Upton Tea Imports
Style: White Peony Tea – Region: China50 / 100 Aroma: 5/10 Flavor: 1/5 Value: 2/5
Feb. 16th, 2010
This particular pai mu tan smells more like an actual peony than any others I've tried.. The aroma is actually fairly powerful, although when you sip the cup it is a bit bland...this tea doesn't have much flavor. There is a very mild, unpleasant sourness to this tea too. Smooth, but I don't notice any sweetness at a...

Excellent tea. Great crisp taste and smell. The cinnamon is nicely balanced by the sweetness of apple. If you like cinnamon, this is a good choice.

Australian Lemon Myrtle Organic from Upton Tea Imports
Style: Lemon Myrtle – Region: Australia87 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 5/5
Feb. 15th, 2010
The aroma of both the tea and the dried leaf are intensely lemony, much more so than the other lemon herbs I've tried, including lemongrass, lemon balm, and lemon verbena. More like lemongrass than the others, and least like lemon balm. The lemon quality is so overpowering that it's hard to notice other aspects of th...

Formosa Oolong Spring Dragon from Upton Tea Imports
Style: Flavored Oolong – Region: Taiwan / Formosa80 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 3/5
Feb. 12th, 2010
Aroma is light and floral; it's almost impossible to tell where the tea ends and the lilac begins: the two fragrances blend seamlessly. This tea does have a hint of the soapy quality that I find plagues some Tung Tings, in contrast to TT86, which wasn't my favorite tea, but lacked this soapiness.
I was disappointed...

Bombay Chai from Mighty Leaf Tea
Style: Chai / Spiced Tea – Region: ?????47 / 100 Aroma: 4/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 2/5
Feb. 12th, 2010
This tea brews a light amber color, much lighter than I had expected. Spice dominates the aroma...mostly fennel and cinnamon, with some clove and other spices. There is a much weaker black tea presence. The aftertaste suggests tarragon; this tea leaves a clean and tingly sensation in the mouth.
People who like sp...

Orange Sencha from Two Leaves and a Bud
Style: Fruit Green Tea – Region: China27 / 100 Aroma: 2/10 Flavor: 2/5 Value: 1/5
Feb. 11th, 2010
Aroma mostly of orange peel, overwhelming the green tea. The orange in the aroma is not particularly fruity, and has a dry quality to it. Although the tea presence is weak, I find that it blends well with the orange, but produces a tea that has an imbalanced aroma, coming across more like a cleaning solution than a t...

Organic KuKi Cha Green Kamakura from Upton Tea Imports
Style: Kukicha – Region: Kanagawa, Japan73 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Feb. 10th, 2010
The aroma of the dry tea is straw-like, but the brewed tea is a lot more like sencha, including a hint of the characteristic seaweed-like quality. In many ways it's typical for a Japanese green tea. There are a few woody tones in the aroma but they have a very different character from the woody qualities present in s...

Darjeeling (Loose) from Hampstead Tea
Style: Darjeeling Black Tea – Region: Darjeeling, India88 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 5/5
Feb. 6th, 2010
This seemingly straightforward Darjeeling has quickly become one of my favorite everyday teas. Although "typical" in many respects, it is surprisingly complex...the aroma has many different aspects to it: a fruitiness, a hint of a rice-like quality, some floral tones, a bit of spice, a suggestion of fall leaves, and s...

Mango Ceylon from Republic of Tea

I had this from a teabag in Panera bread. It could be that it wasn't terribly fresh (I wouldn't put that past Panera) but I was disappointed by the weak black tea presence in this tea. Some people might like that though as this tea is very smooth and has very little bitterness or astringency. I took it as having no ...

Earl Grey Decaf from Mighty Leaf Tea
Style: Earl Grey Tea – Region: Blend40 / 100 Aroma: 4/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 1/5
Feb. 4th, 2010
The bergamot dominates the tea aroma in this blend, but what black tea there is in the aroma has a decent quality. I find that Earl Grey tends to make a better decaffeinated tea than most other black teas, and this tea fits that pattern well.
I still find this tea, like most of mighty leaf's offerings, to be insane...

Nuwara Eliya BOP from Upton Tea Imports
Style: Ceylon Black Tea – Region: Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka70 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 5/5
Feb. 3rd, 2010
This is the first broken-leaf Ceylon from Upton that has been drinkable to me, and I'm surprised to find it completely lacking in the harshness that the other ones I've tried have had.
The aroma is totally unlike any black tea I have tried...it reminds me of rice and rice pastries. I like Upton's description "brigh...

Yunnan Green Supreme Organic from Upton Tea Imports
Style: Green Tea – Region: Yunnan, China73 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 3/5
Feb. 2nd, 2010
This tea has a pungent aroma unlike any other green tea I've sampled before. It reminds me of a hoppy beer like an India Pale Ale, and the bitterness in the tea is similar to that of a strong IPA. The aroma is more like a typical black tea than a green tea to me--I would probably guess incorrectly that it was black t...

Style: Green Tea – Region: Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka89 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 5/5
Feb. 1st, 2010
I have started to see enough of a pattern that I can at least suspect that I tend to like green teas from Sri Lanka.
The dry leaves of this tea are whole and very full, slightly curled, and dark green, and a few of the leaves have a reddish tinge. The dry leaves have a tobacco-like smell.
The cup is richly aroma...

Darjeeling (Loose) from Ahmad Tea

Ahmad is one of my favourite tea brands. It has never let me down. Their Darjeeling is no exception; difficult as it is to brew a perfect Darjeeling, they have found the right proportion for a cup.

Strong but without an edge; malty, full-bodied, but not overly tannic. The dry leaf has a pleasantly strong vegetal aroma, unusual for a black tea, but I was disappointed to find little of this characteristic come through in the brewed cup.
Not the most interesting tea, perhaps, but a very enjoyable tea to drink, m...

Immortal Nectar Pu-erh from Art of Tea
Style: Pu-erh Tea – Region: Yunnan, China77 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Jan. 29th, 2010
This is a rather rich loose-leaf shu (ripened) pu-erh. It differs from most of the loose-leaf pu-erh on the market in that it is much older than most, being a 1997 processing date, yet it's not priced in the stratosphere like so much aged pu-erh. The rough shu taste has smoothed over time and there are nice hints of ...

Bombay Chai from Tea Forte

A smooth, gentle chai with a tangy aftertaste. Aroma sweet, spicey, and malty. Clove and cinnamon are particularly noticeable in the aroma; spice dominates and the tea is less noticeable. I'm not sure where the tea is from but the tea seems more like an Assam than like any other Indian teas. There's a bit of a meta...

Naturally very sweet. The roast is mellow and does not seem to impart any bitterness or burnt qualities. A creamy, vanilla-like quality is dominant in the aroma. A hint of smokiness is present, especially in the aftertaste. The flavor and aroma of this drink are very pleasant and complex.
I have tried brewing th...
