Picture of Xiaguan Te Ji Raw Pu-Erh Tuo

Xiaguan Te Ji Raw Pu-Erh Tuo from Xiaguan Tea Factory

Style: Raw (Sheng) Pu-erh – Region: Yunnan, China

75 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Jul. 14th, 2019

SECOND UPDATE: I'm pretty sure now that this tuo is counterfeit and not really from the Xiaguan factory. I'd been drinking leaves from the surface, which were good, but just broke through to a second layer of chopped up leaves and twigs. I'm rather surprised at the amount of effort that went into counterfeiting a tea t...

China Black Special from TeaSource

Style: Black Tea – Region: Guangxi, China

93 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 5/5
Jun. 21st, 2019

TeaSource describes this tea as unusual, and I agree, and not just how it looks, and its origin (only my second tea I've ever tried from Guangxi) but also its flavor and aroma! I really loved this one and I found it easy to drink and enjoy.

The leaf is only lightly aromatic but the smell is very pleasant.

Yunnan FOP from TeaSource

Style: Yunnan Red – Region: Yunnan, China

81 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 5/5
Jun. 19th, 2019

One of the most interesting teas I've tried in a while!

The dry leaf, which is quite aesthetic looking, smells very unusual and different. The aroma is strong, quite smoky and also herbaceous, with hints of malt and cocoa. It also reminds me a little bit of the smell of an ashtray though, and also of the "new car" s...

Hu Hong Mao Feng from TeaSource

90 / 100 Aroma: 9/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 5/5
Jun. 17th, 2019

I ordered this exquisite tea from TeaSource with my first order, and it was both interesting and impressive.

The dry leaf is beautiful, curly and somewhat wiry. It is intensely aromatic and the aroma is beautiful: strongly malty, more like rye than other grains, with a nutty quality a little like peanut butter, but ...

Harney and Son’s Organic Jasmine from Harney and Sons

Style: Flavored Green Tea – Region: China

80 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 5/5
Jun. 5th, 2019

I purchased Harney and Son's Organic Jasmine along with their Dragon Jasmine Pearls and their Jasmine (non-organic). I brewed all of them according to Harney and Son's directions (1 tsp tea to 1c water at 175F for 3 min).

Organic Jasmine has the least jasmine aroma and flavor of the three. That's not to say it isn't...

Jun. 5th, 2019

I purchased Harney and Son's loose Jasmine tea along with their Dragon Jasmine Pearls and their Organic Jasmine. I brewed all of them according to Harney and Son's directions (1 tsp tea to 1 cup water at 175F for 3 min).

The "Jasmine" had the strongest aroma and most pronounced jasmine flavor of the three. It was al...

Jun. 5th, 2019

I ordered this tea loose and brewed it exactly to Harney & Sons directions (1 tsp per cup at 175F for 3 minutes). The aroma is sublime. The color is very light golden straw. The flavor is soft, fragrant, not bitter at all. Compared to Harney and Son's "Jasmine" and "Organic Jasmine" the Dragon Pearl Jasmine is more sub...

Apr. 6th, 2019

Found this in a Chinese market at the mall in Arcadia, CA. They had a huge selection of teas. I picked up a couple of ounces of this. It was priced at $30 per pound.

It is a very dark tea, black actually, and it has a heavy, smoky smell. However, after brewing the flavor is not as intense as you would expect. The br...

80 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 5/5
Mar. 22nd, 2019

The aroma of this tea is clean and straightforward, with a slight pungency that perks you up. The taste is simple, mellow, and lightly sweet. It's a great tea to drink slowly, savoring the richness with every sip. The liquor is fairly dark but that doesn't really detract from the taste.

Although at the lowest end of...

I had one called China Panyang Congou from Upton, which is also currently unavailable. I'm guessing this is the same thing. It is very enjoyable and tastes different from most of the teas I can think of. There is a pronounced barley/pumpernickel flavor. I've been brewing beer lately and this reminded me of the taste...

This is a very slightly above-average, but not outstanding, bagged green tea available at a price that's hard to top for a non-store brand (about $8 for a 100-count box online, or at stores such as Wal-Mart). Fortunately, I procured a fairly new, sealed 100-ct box at an estate sale for a buck, so *my* value was unrepr...

This is a pretty mellow but still flavorful Chinese black tea. A little nutty and smoky, and offered at a good price. It has more than a little pipe tobacco flavor to it also. As Alex points out, the aroma is interesting and has some earthy, barnyard notes. I am not always in the mood for a keemun, but this is a goo...

Didnt like this at first but it has grown on me. It is best warm-hot not piping hot - that allows the full nuanced flavor to come out. Earthy with a little citrus.

Organic Black Tea from Prince of Peace

Feb. 1st, 2019

I found this box of tea at a natural health store on my lunch hour. Most places that carry Prince of Peace tea don't carry black tea, so I grabbed them. The 100 tea bags are individually wrapped in paper, so I transferred them to an airtight container after removing the plastic seal from the box.

The unbleached pape...
