Vanilla Caramel Black Tea (Vanilla Caramel Truffle Tea) from Lipton Tea
Style: Flavored Black Tea – Region: Blend49 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 1/5
Apr. 24th, 2022
Here's another case of a tea with multiple marketing personalities across target audiences. RateTea states this product is retired/discontinued, and perhaps it is in the U.S. However, it's still available on amazon.com with an "imported" label, as of this writing (for nearly $12 per 20-ct box!). I got the remainder...

Manzanilla (Chamomile) from Tadin Herb and Tea Co.
Style: Pure Chamomile Tea – Region: ?????73 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 5/5
Apr. 14th, 2022
Value-wise, I've found that cheaper chamomile really is best much of the time, since the quality doesn't seem to vary greatly from one brand to another. So when I run low or out, I just grab something inexpensive when I see it. Such was the case here, and I rate "value" highly for two reasons:
1) The tea was on sal...

Balmoral Blend Tea Bags from Murchie's Tea & Coffee Ltd
Style: Black Tea – Region: Blend84 / 100 Aroma: 10/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Apr. 7th, 2022
This Ceylon/Assam blend is yet another in a long line of Murchie's teas paying tribute to British royalty in some way. According to the website: "Murchie's Balmoral Blend Tea was originally blended for York House School—a private school for girls which has been an institution in Vancouver for over 75 years. This b...

Mango Ginger from Yogi Tea
Style: Wellness Tea / Medicinal Tea – Region: Blend79 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 4/5
Mar. 30th, 2022
I liked this more than most Yogi blends I've tried, probably because it has tropical fruit flavors I enjoy greatly (mango and passion fruit), a spicy kick, and "only" nine ingredients. [For the uninitiated, that's extreme simplicity for Yogi Tea.] Those ingredients are (organic): ginger, cinnamon, rooibos, mango flav...

No. 22 Blend Tea Bags from Murchie's Tea & Coffee Ltd
Style: Green and Black Tea Blend – Region: Blend90 / 100 Aroma: 9/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 5/5
Mar. 23rd, 2022
Murchie's promotes this as a more robustly flavored version of their No. 10 Blend, which I reviewed very favorably in 2019, and I agree. So I'll give it a few more points. The component teas are:
GREEN: Jasmine and gunpowder
BLACK: Keemun and Ceylon, with some bergamot.
No. 22 Blend is yet another in a growing...

Kava Stress Relief® from Yogi Tea
Style: Wellness Tea / Medicinal Tea – Region: Blend78 / 100 Aroma: 9/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5
Mar. 19th, 2022
Some Yogi teas have bazillions of ingredients, while smelling and/or tasting like disjointed mishmashes of unrelated flavors, and/or spice-infused clippings from a lawn-mower bag. Good news: not this one! Kava Stress Relief seems to have some coherent and pleasant character to it. Regardless of the veracity of its a...

Decaf from Barry's Tea
Style: Black Tea – Region: Blend65 / 100 Aroma: 5/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Feb. 17th, 2022
My samples of Barry's Decaf came from a motel where the "regular" tea was Lipton. As such, I haven't tried the normal, caffeinated breed of this tea yet for comparison's sake. Both there and at home, I tried it before bedtime, as the website advocated (but without knowing of said suggestion yet).
Dry-bag aroma wa...

Pure Green Tea (100% Green tea) from Salada
Style: Green Tea – Region: ?????64 / 100 Aroma: 4/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Feb. 12th, 2022
As with many inexpensive, bagged green teas, this didn't offer much dry-bag or in-cup aroma, but what there was had a pleasantly grassy to vegetal characteristic that carried over somewhat to the taste, which was quite mild with hints of celery. In that sense, if Salada removed the last "a" from their name, it wouldn'...

Rosehip & Hibiscus from Teekanne
Style: Herbal Tea – Region: ?????69 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5
Jan. 21st, 2022
Rosehip and hibiscus teas, by themselves, don't excite me much, because they tend to be on the sour side. I'm not a big fan of sour teas. Still, as those go, this one's among the most flavorful and naturally colorful I've had. It also has one of the stronger dry-bag aromas—more rosy than fruity, and transitions to...

Wedding Blend from Murchie's Tea & Coffee Ltd

Jan. 12th, 2022
Reviewing the loose version here, but I've got a 10-bag sampler pack too, and don't notice any appreciable difference between them in terms of aroma or flavor. This is another among numerous green-black tea blends Murchie's makes (in this case also with roses, cornflowers and jasmine). They largely have mastered wha...

Decaffeinated Black Tea from Great Value
Style: Black Tea – Region: ?????18 / 100 Aroma: 2/10 Flavor: 2/5 Value: 1/5
Jan. 1st, 2022
Brought home from a low-grade motel somewhere in southwestern New Mexico, this tea wasn't high on my priority list to try. Cheap motels are that way for a reason—well, several reasons—one being those that do bother to offer tea often buy cheap tea in bulk from Wal-Mart. The nearest Wal-Mart to this place was at l...

First Frost from Murchie's Tea & Coffee Ltd
Style: Flavored Black Tea – Region: Blend92 / 100 Aroma: 9/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 5/5
Dec. 14th, 2021
I'm a sucker for rich, strong, flavored black teas, and two of my very favorite flavors are peppermint and vanilla. This seasonal tea combines all three, into one of the best flavored loose-leaf blends I've ever had. The product releases a very creamy, minty aroma on opening the dry sack, which I could stand there an...

Dec. 1st, 2021
Here's the third offering reviewed here, and the second-best to me, from a 4-pack sample of the various seasonal holiday teas Murchie's produces. As with the others, they are flavored loose blends, in this case composed of black tea, jasmine green, calendula flowers, elder flowers, and unspecified "natural and artifi...

Purely Peppermint from Teekanne
Style: Peppermint Tea – Region: ?????81 / 100 Aroma: 9/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 3/5
Nov. 26th, 2021
The version I have simply is called "Peppermint" without the "Purely" or "Soothing" parts, though I have seen the white-box "Soothing" version in stores too. The ingredient in both simply is peppermint leaves. I don't know if it has been wholly renamed, or if this is just a relabeling of the same tea for different ma...

Evergreen from Murchie's Tea & Coffee Ltd

Nov. 21st, 2021
Evergreen is a unique tea, to say the least. That usually means it's going to be a major turn-off, a surprising crowd-pleaser, or just weird. How about, "pleasantly weird"?
Like Shania's boyfriends in her pop-country song, the first couple cups had me thinking, "That don't impress me much!" Unlike them with her, ...

Japanese Matcha + Blueberry + Lavender from Matcha Love
Style: Flavored Green Tea – Region: Blend68 / 100 Aroma: 9/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 2/5
Nov. 18th, 2021
Each box contains 10 individually plastic-wrapped pyramid sachets, with visible, chopped pieces of green tea leaves and lavender buds at about a 20/1 ratio, and an invisible natural flavoring in the form of powdered blueberry juice. A pinch of matcha powder accumulates in the bottom crease of the wrapper, and can be d...

Style: Flavored Black Tea – Region: Blend90 / 100 Aroma: 10/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 4/5
Nov. 14th, 2021
Call me a complete sucker for quality teas of this ilk, I suppose. This is Murchie's version of Constant Comment, which I also rate very highly, but with a few differences. In addition to cloves, orange peel and cinnamon, which the Bigelow product uses, Murchie's adds vanilla. This makes it less sharp than Constant ...

Peppermint from TEViVE

Nov. 9th, 2021
It's not hard to get peppermint tea right: just use properly grown and dried leaves and put enough in the bag to fill it when wet. They got the first part, and failed miserably on the second.
I've had a lot of peppermint teas, and the quality of the leaves they use stands with any of them, even with a few choppe...

Roasted Chestnut from Murchie's Tea & Coffee Ltd
Style: Flavored Black Tea – Region: Blend49 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 2/5 Value: 2/5
Nov. 7th, 2021
What Murchie's does well, they utterly excel, and that's most of their teas. But on very uncommon occasions they spin out a head-scratching clunker that grossly defies their sterling reputation. This, friends, is the latter.
As an OU football fan, a great analogy is that one time just about every season when ...

Mixed Fruit from Teekanne
Style: Fruit (Herbal) Tea – Region: ?????62 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5
Nov. 6th, 2021
Teekanne markets numerous assorted fruit infusions on multiple nation-domain websites. Curiously, I can't find this product (by this name anyway, or by another with the same ingredients) anywhere on Teekanne's main dot-com English-language website, nor German, nor their Austrian site .at, which is in English. Yet it'...

Editors' Blend Tea Bags from Murchie's Tea & Coffee Ltd

Murchie's carries so many different tea blends that it takes a long time—years, at a normal tea-drinking pace—to get around to trying most of them. I wish this one had landed on my porch sooner! This may be the richest, smoothest, fullest-bodied all-black tea blend of theirs, or anybody's for that matter, that I'...

Green Tea Super Antioxidant from Yogi Tea

A co-worker who drinks a lot of medicinal herbal teas left me this and regurgitated not the tea itself, but the claim that it "helps reduce free radicals". My response: "How? By imprisoning the radicals?" Smart-aleck retorts aside, I'm wary of teas that make a bunch of health claims that aren't solidly backed medical...

White Chocolate Peppermint from Celestial Seasonings

Celestial Seasonings has produced, then retired, at least three flavored white teas, based on RateTea's listings. Is the fourth time the charm?

Plantation Mint® Black Tea from Bigelow Tea
Style: Black Tea with Mint – Region: ?????61 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 4/5
Sep. 22nd, 2021
RateTea has been good for my life, by motivating me to variegate my tea sampling, and opening up new flavor and olfactory worlds. How's that for advertorial testimony? :-) That, however, has included getting me to sample nasty to mediocre teas, as well as some very good ones I otherwise wouldn't have had. This clas...

Organic Lemon Echinacea Throat Coat® from Traditional Medicinals

As medicinal herbals go, this one was OK—not as OK as Oklahoma pronounced itself on 1970s license plates, but OK nonetheless. The dry bag gave off a pronounced licorice aroma, which doesn't bother me, since I'm cool with licorice. But some folks hate licorice, and I predict they won't take a shine to the smell or t...
