Green Tea - Classic from Bigelow Tea
Style: Green Tea – Region: ?????45 / 100 Aroma: 4/10 Flavor: 2/5 Value: 4/5
Jul. 19th, 2017
This is a tea I've been drinking after coming home from work. It's OK. Seems to have a very dark color, close to black tea. Not much flavor so I always put a spoonful of honey in this.

Mao Feng from De Theefabriek
Style: Mao Feng Green Tea – Region: Zhejiang, China66 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5
Jul. 12th, 2017
I might still have to work out some things with brewing this tea, because this second attempt tastes very different from the first.
It has a strong vegetal aroma and very little sweetness. It reminds me a little bit of Young Hyson right now which seems strange. After all, this tea is supposed to be mild whereas Youn...

Choui Fong from De Theefabriek
Style: Green Tea – Region: Thailand64 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 3/5
Jul. 10th, 2017
The leaves are extremely large and irregular, so much so that they don't even fit in my regular strainer.
Fun fact that I just learned: All images of teas on De Theefabriek's product pages are in exactly the same scale, and are 5 x 5 cm squares in real life. This helps give a sense of the size of the leaves.
The te...

Organic Japanese Sencha from DAVIDsTEA
Style: Sencha – Region: Shizuoka, Japan79 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 5/5
Jul. 9th, 2017
Of all the pure teas I've gotten from David's, this is the first one to not stand out from the crowd. It is not a bad tea at all. Like mostly everything I've tried at David's, it is above average. It is just not as impressive as some of the other Greens and Oolongs I have purchased there. This is one of the lowest p...

Tian Mu from De Theefabriek
Style: Green Tea – Region: Zhejiang, China63 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 3/5
Jul. 9th, 2017
It's a lovely summer day, so I cycled the 26 kilometres to De Theefabriek again. This time I didn't even visit the tea museum (which I've already seen twice), just bought teas and drank a cup of Tian Mu in the tearoom.
I feel like they always give water at 100°C and many more leaves than I'd use myself, so I only l...

Kabuse Cha from Unami
Style: Kabusecha – Region: Japan65 / 100 Aroma: 9/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 2/5
Jul. 1st, 2017
I took the dégustation comparée (comparative tasting) of three green teas of a higher quality. This is one of the three I was served.
I got a zhong with dry leaves in it, a small cup, and a thermos of water.
I was recommended to finish with this tea, so I tasted this one last.
The leaves are very dark green and ...

Xin Chang Long Jing Impérial from Unami

I took the dégustation comparée (comparative tasting) of three green teas of a higher quality. This is one of the three I was served.
I got a zhong with dry leaves in it, a small cup, and a thermos of water.
This tea has an intense sweet, vegetal, almost savoury aroma that immediately struck me. It has a much str...

I took the dégustation comparée (comparative tasting) of three green teas of a higher quality. This is one of the three I was served.
I got a zhong with dry leaves in it, a small cup, and a thermos of water.
It has beautiful bright green leaves and liqueur, and a bright and sweetish aroma.
First steeping: Vegeta...

Sencha du Vietnam Bio from Unami
Style: Sencha – Region: Vietnam64 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 2/5
Jul. 1st, 2017
I drank this tea in the Unami Maison de Thé in Lille. It was served prepared in a small teapot. This means it was made exactly as it should, though I didn't get to see any leaves.
I don't have any prior experience with senchas, so I can't compare this with others. I have tasted a few other Vietnamese green teas, an...

Santikirhi Thaïlande from Unami
Style: Green Tea – Region: Thailand70 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5
Jul. 1st, 2017
I drank this tea in the Unami Maison de Thé in Lille. It was served prepared in a small teapot. This means it was made exactly as it should, though I didn't get to see any leaves.
It tasted fresh, not sweet, and very grassy, with a rich flavour. The tea in the bottom of the pot is always stronger so I got three pro...

Korea OP Jeju Green Tea Bio from Het Gouden Randje
Style: Green Tea – Region: Jeju, South Korea67 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5
Jun. 24th, 2017
I bought this to keep at my parents' house to use as everyday green tea. It's a bit too subtle for an everyday tea, though. I also never seem to be able to get my tea quite right here.
It is very light, but doesn't feel thin, and it has a slightly sweet aftertaste. The colour is a lovely bright greenish yellow.
I'm t...

Lung Ching from De Theefabriek
Style: Dragon Well (Long Jing) – Region: Zhejiang, China60 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 3/5
Jun. 13th, 2017
I've seen Dragonwell here and there and I had the general impression that it is a pretty well-known tea with a good reputation, so i wanted to try it. (In fact, one of my proudest tea lover moments was seeing Longjing mentioned in Death's End by Liu Cixin and knowing what that is - and actually having some myself.)

Smokey Wuhuan Groen from Simon Lévelt
Style: Green Tea – Region: China58 / 100 Aroma: 9/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 3/5
Jun. 12th, 2017
I don't know what it is about this tea, but I always oversteep it. The first time I ever made it, I even forgot about it for one and a half hours. When I found it, it was cold and bitter. (In my defense, it was graduation day and I was a bit distracted.)
And just now when I wanted to review it it got too strong again,...

Green Tea (Loose) from Golden Sail Brand
Style: Green Tea – Region: China48 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 1/5 Value: 1/5
Jun. 9th, 2017
I wouldn't buy this again. I purchased it at the Newark, Delaware Farmer's market out of curiosity. Usually I've had better experiences with teas there, like discovering the remarkably inexpensive and high-quality Tradition brand. This was a disappointment though.
Dry leaf looks dusty silvery-green, looks a lot l...

Bi Luo Chun from AhaTee
Style: Bi Luo Chun – Region: China60 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 2/5
Jun. 9th, 2017
This tea was quite expensive and it doesn't smell all that good. Especially the used leaves smell pretty bad. I still haven't figured out how to make this, but I use relatively little leaf and don't steep it for long. The result tastes all right, though. The colour of the infusion isn't very bright, a slightly dirty ye...

Gunpowder from Tanay
Style: Gunpowder Green Tea – Region: Sri Lanka / Ceylon50 / 100 Aroma: 4/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 5/5
Jun. 8th, 2017
I always like to have a cheap gunpowder tea which I can drink as much as I like without worries. I buy 250 g or 500 g boxes from a Turkish shop, and they are incredibly cheap (this 250 g box was probably €2.25 or something). However, the brands change now and then.
This one was also incredibly cheap, but I don't l...

Pin Ho Jade from De Theefabriek
Style: Green Tea – Region: Vietnam92 / 100 Aroma: 9/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 3/5
Jun. 7th, 2017
Since I fell in love with Nam Lanh OP from the same brand but I currently prefer green teas, I decided to try this one as it's also from Vietnam.
And I was in luck! It tastes like a green version of the Nam Lanh black tea. It smells the same and, best of all, it's got the same intense "smoldering" flavour.
I drink bo...

Young Hyson from De Theefabriek
Style: Young Hyson – Region: China79 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 3/5
Jun. 7th, 2017
It smells nice enough, but not that special. It tastes great, though. A very strong flavour. If I use too little leaf, it doesn't really have that intensity that I love about this, but if I use too much it easily gets too bitter.
It's a great everyday green tea, but I don't worry too much about running out. I like thi...

Yen Bai Groen from Simon Lévelt
Style: Green Tea – Region: Vietnam77 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Jun. 6th, 2017
Other Vietnamese teas I've had have been fantastic, so I decided to give this a try.
It's good enough, it's got a little bit of what I love so much about Nam Lanh OP and Pin Ho Jade from De Theefabriek, the flavour I can best describe as "smoldering", especially if you use a generous amount of leaf. It's fine for two ...

Anji Baicha from Harney and Sons
Style: Anji Bai Cha – Region: Zhejiang, China86 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5
May. 31st, 2017
I have read about Anji Baicha for years now, and this is the first time I've ever tried it. I've been very curious about it, especially since I've read that it's among the teas highest in L-theanine, but is prepared rather differently from Gyokuro, the tea I've tried that is also highest in theanine. It didn't quite ...

Pearl Gunpowder from The Tao of Tea
Style: Gunpowder Green Tea – Region: Zhejiang, China66 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
May. 27th, 2017
This was a simple, coolish, fresh green tea with a hint of smoke in the aroma. Gunpowder isn't my favorite style of green tea, but I do enjoy it from time to time.
The dry leaf of this smells mild but pleasant and fresh, dusty with a hint of smoke, some cool herbal notes a little like celery. After steeping I see ...

West Lake Dragon Well Tea Long Jing from Teasenz
Style: Dragon Well (Long Jing) – Region: Zhejiang, China89 / 100 Aroma: 10/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 5/5
May. 25th, 2017
The dry leaves released a great roasty aroma when I opened the bag. I couldn't wait but to steep a cup of this great looking green tea in my glass gaiwan.
I cooked water and let it cool down for 2 minute. I can't really say what temperature it is, I tend to steep tea more based on my 'feeling'. And I like it that wa...

Xin Yang Mao Jian from Teasenz
Style: Mao Jian Green Tea – Region: Xinyang, Henan, China90 / 100 Aroma: 10/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 4/5
May. 16th, 2017
The appearance of this green tea is dark green. The dry leaves smell amazing. It’s like seaweed.
After brewing I can see that it consists mainly out of small young leaves as well as some one bud one leaf pickings.
This is a pretty strong tea. The flavour reminds me of a biluochun. It’s vegetal, seaweed-like, ...

First Flush Longjing from Teasenz
Style: Dragon Well (Long Jing) – Region: Zhejiang, China92 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 5/5
May. 16th, 2017
I’ve prepared this longjing in a glass and steeped it with water around 80C. It’s more a grandpa style of brewing, but I like it this way with Longjing.
The first brew is delicious. It has the usual nutty and toasty characteristics, but not too strong. The flavour isn’t as vegetal as most green teas, which I l...

Organic Karigane from Mighty Leaf Tea
Style: Kukicha – Region: Japan76 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5
May. 13th, 2017
Thank you to Mighty Leaf for this sample! Overall I haven't been as impressed with the green teas from Mighty Leaf as the black ones, but I like this one a bit more. This was a very atypical example of a kukicha / twig tea, much more full-flavored than I expected.
I was intrigued by how the leaf smells...it smells...
